4 months or 6 months for starting solids?

If you feel like he's ready at 4 months then I think it's fine. We didn't start til 6 with DD, but we used a food feeder to make it safe and easy. I looked it up and the product's recommended use is for 4 months and up. So I think you're in the clear.

If you aren't familiar with them: https://www.amazon.com/Kidsme-Food-...F8&qid=1437514719&sr=8-1&keywords=food+feeder

Breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months is good. I have introduced solid foods to my DD at 7 months, started with banana puree. Better to introduce solid foods at 6 months so that babies digestive system will get developed and will be ready for solid foods.

I started ds at 5.5, he could sit unaided and feed himself doing blw :)

I know it's an older thread but just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

We planned on waiting until 6 months but by nearly 5 my DS was more than ready so we started then.
Would aim to wait until 6 months with the next but ultimately start when they're ready.

I started giving her solids at exactly 4 months. She opens her mouth and reaches for the spoon when I feed her. She loves it!! Breastmilk will be her main diet for her first year but every now and then I give her sweet potatoes

im that naughty mum that weaned at four months. my daughter took to eating really well. she eats anything put infront of her. she has home made veggies. jar baby food. baby fruit pots. packet mixes. yoghurts. bananas and strawberrys. rusks!!! organix baby biscuits and crisps. toast. cheese. tomatos cucumber, spaghetti bolonaise, scrambled eggs, weetabix ready brek etc etc.

my family are all healthy and were weaned even before four months. im confident and happy with my choice :)

6 Months. And he's taken to it like a dream (Baby led weaning). He ate chunky beef stew today, Nom! Hasn't gagged once. x

The only reason it says 4months+ is that it is illegal to say it is safe at any younger age. When research showed that babies were better able to cope with food at around 6months, national guidelines for health professionals changed too BUT advetising/packaging guidelines did not. I believe everyone has to make their own choice based on the info out there - but I'd be more likely to trust health professionals as a source of this info rather than product manufacturers who have a vested interest in getting 2 extra months of spending out of each parent.

over the years i have started my children at all different ages but found 6 months to be the best
1st 12 weeks
2nd 12 weeks
3rd 4 months
4th 4 months
5th 4 months
6th 6 months
Your comment had been a great help, I started my dd1 at 12 weeks and ds around 16 weeks and baby is 14 weeks and unsure when to start this time but seeing u say 6 months worked best has def convinced me to wait till 6 months this time. Thank you xx
