150mls is SLIGHTLY more than 5oz, and yet on the side of the Aptamil box it says "150mls or 5ozs". Which is it??! What do you all do?

i've only ever used oz so not too sure sorry

ok i have just looked at my C&G 1 at it says 180ml or 6oz so i have just looked at my bottle and there is quite a difference isn't there you have me thinking now.

Wouldn't measuring it in ml make the milk more watery?

Yeah, that's what I mean. Using ml could make it too watery, but using oz's could possibly not be enough water if you know what i mean? Just though it was strange. I've been filling the bottles up inbetween the 5oz and 150ml mark because i'm just not sure what to do!

Ok, this is how much of a loser I am.... i've just asked on the live chat on the aptamil website!! It seems they're not sure either and I still don't have the answer:

Chloe:
It says on the side of the Aptamil tubs to use 5ozs or 150ml of water... but which is it? 150mls is more than 5oz.

Sue - Baby Care Advisor is dealing your query and will reply as soon as possible.

Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
Hi Chloe
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
The ratio of powder is 1 scoop of powder to 1oz, or 30mls of water
Chloe:
but 30mls of water is more than 1oz of water which is why i'm asking?
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
It is 28mls, but it is rounded up on our packets to make is easier for you to make up
Chloe:
so for the purposes of measuring out the formula, we should be using ozs rather than mls, is that right?
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
It doesn't matter which you use as long as you use the ratio 1 scoop of powder to 1oz, or 30mls of water.
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
All bottles are different - some only have oz on them, some have mls
Chloe:
140mls is 5oz though, so why wouldn't you put on the side of the tub 5 scoops for 140mls?
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
What measurements do you have on your bottles?
Chloe:
I have both, which is what's made me wonder where to fill the water to. If I choose to use 150mls for 5 scoops which is what it says on the side of the box, I would be using more water than if I were to choose to use 5oz of water. So i'm wondering - do I use 5ozs of water or 150mls of water because they're both different amounts?
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
It doesn't matter - there is only 2mls different - parents would find it difficult to measure out 3oz, or 84mls of water
Chloe:
it is only 2mls difference for 1 oz... but when you're talking 5 ozs it's 10mls difference
Sue - Baby Care Advisor:
the ratio of powder to water difference is mimimal - It doesn't matter which one you use

OMG so we are still no the wiser!!!

Doesn't seem that way no!

I understand that the difference between 1oz and 50mls is only 2mls which isn't really worth bothering about, but as the measurements get bigger, the difference gets bigger. 5ozs is really 140mls, so the difference is 10mls from what Aptamil are telling us to use? Still not sure what to do, or if it really makes that much of a difference to baby anyway!

Right, you can actually water down formula with one extra oz to scoops, ie 5 scoops in 6oz, this won't cause malnutrtion as is only slight and I was advised when my son got constipated to water down the formula, So I always use the higher measurement as I prefer to have more liquid, it doesnt however work the other way, you can't put extra scoops in as this does cause problems.

So you can use the mills and I did whilst using aptamil and I do now with farleys, although the measurements are a little different on this can.

Hope that makes sense!

Yep I go by oz's also!

I have watered down lo milk when she had a bout of illness, didnt do any harm- it helped her loads.

I've always gone by mls so Jay gets a little bit more milk at a feed. It's strange though

xx

Frankly in the middle of the night there is no way I would ever get it exact, and I think there is a bit of flexibility there, as peoples kitchens aren't clinical lab. I don't think anyone's babies are going to starve going off ounces. Mine sure as hell isn't.
