I am a grandmother of 4 girls - the most recent was born premature in November 2008. I was unfamiliar with the experience and so expected shops to be full of reasonably priced clothing for this precious person. But no! Her head was the size of a tennis ball and there were no hats small enough to fit. Clothing was much more expensive than for full term babies. I had to get my knitting needles out to help, though it had been years since I had used them. I did not knit anything fancy, but I made three different sizes of hats which lasted many months as little Eva grew toward her normal birth weight. Now she has a new cousin - another premature baby, but a boy this time and I am knitting for him! I have many friends who can knit far better than I can but cannot afford wool and they are too old and live too remotely to be able to post packages to people, so I think we should set up a system to link Mums who need Prem clothes with the knitters of this country, but on a "One Knitter to One Mum" basis using email. What do you think?
