Hi Girls

I just wanted to ask a quick question. I know that I havent been TTC for as long as you guys over here (8 cycles) So please tell me to bugger off if I offend as its not my intention to upset anyone.

Really wanted to know when you approached your GP about tests etc. I know the rule of thumb is 12 months but did you get the ball rolling before then or wait?? My GP does know that we are TTC. Atm I am using OPK's to detect the LH surge and do get +opks. However does that mean that I AM ovulating or just that I get the surge??

Any answers are very much appreciated!

Thanks for reading

GOOD LUCK with your journeys, I hope that you find your very muchly deserved :bfp:'s very soon :dust: :dust: :dust:#

Hi Samba!

Always happy to provide any info from my background if it can help anyone...

My story is: TTC since March 07...I did wait the usual 12 months as I didn't notice anything unusual with my cycles etc - very normal 28 day kinda gal!

Anyway after 12 months I thought time isn't on my side (I'm now 33) so went to my GP who arranged the usual blood tests which showed I had all the right things happening...long story short I went private (luckily due to DH having private healthcare) and they basically repeated the bloods plus any internal scan...this showed I had polycystic ovaries but not the syndrome therefore despite having no symptoms whatsoever it would appear I wasn't ovulating regularly as all there were cysts in my ovaries...

After lots of testing etc the consultant put me on Clomid and I am on my second cycle of it this month...

From my personal experience (and of course depending on whether you have private healthcare) I would get the ball rolling sooner than later as I showed no signs whatsoever of the PCO...I know some people think you should wait the 12 months as you will only stress more with all the tests but I'd rather know quickly.

That's my advice if it worth anything :)

Good luck in your TTC journey and hope you get your :bfp: soon!

:dust:

Merry Xmas!! xx

Thanks Bexy for you prompt reply and advice.

I am TTC after MC so I can get preggers. But I was on depo for 7-8 years been off it for 2. So not sure if that has anything to do with it, and whether Drs would take me seriously as I have managed it before. I too have very regular AF's, relatively painless and only for 4 days.

Maybe I should pop in to see Dr if this cycle is unsuccessful.

Once again thanks for your reply!

Hey chick, I went to the Dr a couple of months before the 12 month mark .. I kinda fudged our 'been trying since' dates a little
Despite using opk's and a CBFM it actually turned out that I don't O all that regularly and Dr has prescribed clomid to help .. also to try and bring O forward as I've been Oing VERY late.
As you have had a BFP (so sorry about your m/c my love) you may find the Dr less helpful before the 12 month mark ... mine was good as I've had 12 months with no even a sniff of a BFP.
But it does depend on the Dr .. the 1st I saw was ok ... the 2nd has been brilliant!

It cannot hurt to try honey ... find a nice Dr and go and ask ... they might offer the basic tests?

If you are getting positive OPKs than you are ovulating. That's a good thing!!

I went to the DR after I wasn't ovulating when I was TTC my second. It wasn't 12 mths, but it was something like 6-but with no ovulation. I got tests, prescribed Clomid. This time, I got pregnant after 9 mths TTC, lost it, 4mths later, lost it, and then 10mths later, went to the DR. Tests, clomid, pregnant again-lost it. Now I am on Clomid, Prometrium, and starting baby asprin.

Hey Sambatiki,

I'm with Farie...a little bit of fudging went on!! My GP actually said that a lot of people probably go to their GP after about 9 months saying it's been 12.

If you are gonna go to see your GP then just tell them about the OPKs (blood tests will confirm ovulation etc) and your cycles and hopefully they will refer you for bloods and your DH for an SA.

I was glad we did a bit of fudging as it highlighted DH's very low sperm count so it got the ball rolling sooner rather than later for IVF.

Good luck :hugs:

:wohoo: I was worried that I had the surge but no eggy iykwim.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me. Im going to wait another couple of cycles then go and see the doc. Fingers crossed I wont have to and Im just being paranoid!!

Best of luck ladies!! :dust: :dust:

I hate to be negative but pos OPK's don't mean your definitely O'ing ... I've had plenty and was using a CBFM and getting my PEAK, incl the month that my bloods indicated no O.
They are a useful indicator but are not 100% accurate. Although it might have just been my weird body
I don't mean Sam your not Oing .. just that my personal experience is that OPK's/CBFM are not definite, Dr checks can not hurt :hugs:

Fingers crossed you don't get to the point you need tests ... a nice BFP is Jan for you I think!

I went after 6 months and dr really supportive, explained to me that often takes a long time, told me that him and his mrs took 16 monthe to concieve and they have no issues, went back at 9 months for day 21 test and DH has just had SA done, now in 11th month have to wait for SA results if they are OK go back at 12 months for referal, unless there is problem with DH SA. But to be honest felt soooooo much better after discussing it with the DR he has been fab and always leave the appointments giggling, he tells me it is important to try and stay positive and lighthearted about the whole thing, but mind you that approach doesn't seem to be working but does make me feel better !!!

love charlie 19 x

I think it would be worth going and having a chat with your doc I went after about 8/9 months trying and managed to get the ball rolling with initial blood tests and SA on DH and then referred because I wasn't ovulating which meant by the time my appointment with the consultant had come through we had been TTC for a year. Evern if he tells you to come back in a couple of months at least you know they know your story so when you go back it will just be a formality and they'll put you forward for tests straight away. Good luck though I hope you don't have to go to the docs in the end!

I would go to the doctor now, I waited over two years and wish i had gone sooner. I am in early stage of testing (well not that early - 2months in) and it is going to take another month to see specialist. I would tell them its been 12 months, but you may not feel comfortable with not being completely honest. I think better to know there is a problem sooner than later. If they come up with nothing you will hopefully feel more relaxed and it will happen. Good luck x

I would definitely go sooner....the tests and appointments take soooo long. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose so that you go private....but we dont all have that kind of money in this recession!!!!

One of my biggest regrets is not getting myself checked sooner - so if I could give you one piece of advice it's get the ball rolling as soon as possible. Even if you "fudge" your dates like someone said ;) It won't hurt to get some tests out of the way, don't let them just fob you off

:hugs:
Lots of luck

Thanks for all your advice! Its really appreciated.

Will defo go in the new year! Will let you all know how I get on!

MERRY XMAS & MAY ALL YOUR HOPES, DREAMS & WISHES COME TRUE IN 2009
