Hi Ladies,

Me and my DH have been ttc for 12 months. 2 years previously I suffered a m/c (got pregnant first month of trying!) I decided to go back on the pill because i was to upset about my loss to just start trying again so here we are 2 years down the line and 12 months of ttc and still nothing!!

I do ovulation tests (but havent every single month), If I get a smiley does this mean i am defo ovulating? (I know I probably sound really thick but just wanted to know)

Thanks in advance

The only way to know 100% that you're ovulating is by ultrasound. OPKs, temping, tracking signs, etc. are indications that you are probably ovulating. If these tools indicate that you've been ovulating, but you haven't gotten a bfp yet, then it's time to look deeper.

Positive OPKs are a good sign, but they don't tell you whether the egg that was released was mature enough or that the egg was released at all, as sometimes the eggs fail to release from their follicles. Sometimes you can get the LH surge like clockwork, but if your hormones are not totally in sync then the egg won't fertilize properly.

I'm on my 13th cycle TTC and I am very regular with positive OPKs every months, but I haven't had any bfps at all. My doc has put me on Clomid to help me produce more and better eggs.

Ah i see. Thank you for that information. I saw my GP 8 months after ttc and he told me to go back if nothing happened in 18months, do you think its worth going back now to see whats going on?

I definitely think it would be worth it to go back now if you're anxious. At the least they can rule out certain fertility busters like blocked tubes, low sperm count, thyroid issues, etc.

In the U.S. women are advised to seek help after a year if under the age of 35 and 6 months if over the age of 35. Your doc may try to insist that you wait because your mc proved that your body is capable of getting pregnant without help, but if it were me I wouldn't want to wait another six months to get help. It would suck if you kept trying for the whole 18 months and you found that you had a problem the whole time. If things are okay then you would have peace of mind that a bfp should be on its way.

Yeah think I will visit them, due AF 16th January if it comes I will get a appointment. I am only 22! Im obviously not doing something right lol.
I often say to myself well ive concieved before (although it did end in miscarriage at 12+5 weeks) so there cant be anything wrong with me but I guess things change and theres a reason i M/Cd :\

I had a miscarriage back in 2008, we fell pregnant on the second or third month of trying but the month we fell pregnant was the month we actually properly tried. It then took me 3 years from then to fall pregnant with my little boy. We had all tests done and it was found my husband's sperm count wasn't as high as it should be, it was 18 million when they say a man has to have a minimum of 20 million to fall pregnant. So maybe it's worth your OH getting checked.

The month I fell pregnant with our son we tried really hard, had sex every other day up until CD12 (I usually ovulate anywhere between CD13-16) and from CD12, we had sex every day up until CD16, then missed a day and then did it again on CD18. We also used pre-seed. As I was charting my temperature for a long while, I knew how many times and when we had sex the month I fell pregnant when I miscarried. As it happened, the month I fell with my son, we did the same pattern. Sometimes lots of sex is what I think worked for us - that and pre-seed.

But where I live, my doctor said she refers people for tests after 6-7 months of trying - as long as you have been trying around the right times. I'd go back to the doctors x

Thank you for sharing your story, If I am honest I probably should start using Ovulation kits more often as I have been pretty much guessing when i think i am ovulating. I feel me at 22 and DH at 24 we shouldnt have a problem but I will be going back to my GP If i get my AF this month.
I haven't heard of pre-seed before what is it? Lol
