Alcohol while ttc?

Im a naughty girl!! After 9 cycles TTC.... 6 of them giving up alcohol in the 2ww.... I dont worry about it anymore..... If I want to drink then I will!!!

TTC is hard enough, not going to make it any harder for myself!

Lots of people are having very healthy babies all the time.

However Im not saying that you should drink whilst pregnant if you get what I mean.

I think thats a very big risk to take, but, each to their own
xx

How is drinking in the 2ww a VERY BIG risk??? Babies dont implant until 7-10DPO therefore doesnt take anything from you.

Also the baby does not live of ur placenta till 6 weeks, i would never drink past a :bfp: but its certainly something to think about.

My first 6 months of trying a barely drank at all, and not 1 sip in the 2ww. Guess what i didnt fall preg, the first month i let go, guess what i got a :bfp: coincidence? My preg ended in m/c but the midwife has assured me that drinking till my :bfp: certainly had nothing to do with the outcome of my pregnancy. She even said what about all these women who are alcoholics and have healthy babies? Now THAT is a BIG risk, but my point is a few glasses of wine before the baby has implanted isnt going to cause any harm.

Well this is my 13/14th cycle, and i have learnt ttc is hard enough without putting ur life on hold.

How long have u been ttc?

I totally agree with you Daisy Duke. I don't intend to put my life on hold either. This has been my first cycle of TTC#1 and I have been a obsessive over the symptoms. If I am not pregnant this month then I have an even more vivid and quite frankly disturbing imagination than I thought I had. I am 10DPO and have bigger boobs (actually loving them as I am a B cup!!!) and a strange taste in my mouth. I am also going to the toilet more often although I wouldn't say it's overly disruptive. So I have decided if I don't get a :bfp: this month I am going to take a more relaxed, albeit orgaised, approach and won't be on here everyday.

Your symptoms sound promising!!! Best of luck!! :dust:

Thanks, I certainly do feel it but I have felt it since the night we :sex:. As I say I have a fairly active imagination so if it isn't a :bfp: I will have to limit myself on this site and keep myself very active as I think I will go mad otherwise. It's not that I expect to fall pregnant on my first cycle but I do feel very different so I can't think what else it could be.

Thanks for all your opinions! We´ve been trying for 6 months and for the first months I decided to go on with my life and it would just happen when it happened. Never had any alcohol past 5 dpo though. Not that I think that it could affect a fertilized egg, it just felt weird to be symptom spotting while sipping wine! ;) I´ve also heard that women in fertility treatments are told by their doctors not to consume any alcohol so I guess it has some affect. Might only be because of some medication though. Then I have seen some girls here say "Drink 'til you see pink"! So opinions vary..

Then 4 months of actively trying "flew by" and I started to worry that my weekend wine was having a bad affect on my fertility so I decided to quit it and make DH quit too. Now 2 months later I have become so obsessed on ttc and I think it might be because I´m taking everything so seriously and ttc so hard. Mabye it´s better to relax, have some wine (before ovulation) and go on living your normal life before I become a nervous wreck..

Oh I just dream about that :bfp: and don´t want to do anything that could make it take even longer!

Im seeing a top FS, and he actually told me to go and buy a bottle of wine, it's FS recomeded.

He told me about couples he has seen for years, they have tried everything including IVF there now in there 40's and they turn up at his door pregnant. He askes them what they did differently, he said its always the same story, we drank to much eat to much and smoked to much.

He is a fertilty specialist, and even has books published, so i will be taking his advice.

Oh leelee how exciting! Hope you get your :bfp: in the first try! :)

My bosses wife is a MW and I ended up having a chat with her at the xmas party about TTC....... She has 3 beautiful daughters herself and her advice was to bin the OPK's (NO WAY  ) have a few drinks and enjoy it!!! words from a professional!!

Anyway its each to their own and all that jazz! All Im trying to say is that women have been having babies since the world was created...... In times before the medical profession and advanced technology, where drinking alcohol was common practice.... it didnt stop them having healthy babies.

Thanks Bke,

As I said, if it isn't I will seriously fearing for my sanity! How long have you been trying?

I dont personally feel like im putting my life on hold because im not getting drunk.

To ME i think drinking when your TTC is a risk and thats just what > I < think. Im not saying its wrong or right its just my opinion.

Having a few drinks and getting drunk are 2 different things? Like i said before i didnt drink in my first 6 months of ttc, what i found hard was at social occasions when u have to lie to why ur not having a drink? I used to say things like im on anti biotics cos my wisdom teeth are playing up, or i had so much to drink last night i cant bear the thought. That to me is an added stress, and yes putting ur life on hold, because u are behaving different than if u werent ttc.

I think eating a healthy balanced diet and excercising while ttc is much more important than avoiding a few glasses of wine.

How long have u been ttc?

Copied the below text from my post above, not sure u read it?

Everyone has a different way of doing things dont they. As i said in my original post *each to their own* i personally just dont want to drink and i think if i have an orange juice rather than a glass of wine no one is going to ask me why.
This is my 5th month of TTC
xx

It is just tough to hear someone calling it risky, cos what do u think a few glasses of wine before a :bfp: will do?

Your lucky if no one will ask why your not drinking..........

I used to be hyper sensitive in the 2ww that must have been for about 9 months of ttc, i wouldnt drink a drop, eat soft cheese, soft eggs, pate, parma ham, caffeine, anything at all they advise against while preg i didnt touch.

I'm on cycle 13/14 now and it's just not realistic to carry on like that.

Just to add if u dont want to drink then that's great and good for u, the reason i have defended drinking while ttc is because this thread was asking if it's ok. And i just didn't want to see someone else making sacrifices like i did, when there is no need.

During the 2WW the cells can implant before you get your BFP. People can even be preg for a few months with bleeding that seems like a period. I just think its a bit risky to drink and add things like that to your body that could potentially make you mc or cause problems.
Im not disapproving, its just a personal opinion.
I spend ages putting things into my body- food and vitamins, to help me TTC i dont want to undo it all by drinking
xx

Im not arguing with you btw, i just dont see it as a huge sacrifice.

Hey guys! I was just wondering if you totally stay away from alcohol while ttc? I never drink alcohol in the 2ww "just in case" but for the last 2 months I haven´t really been drinking before ovulation either because I´m not sure if it affects my fertility. I´m the type that likes to have a glass of wine with a saturday dinner or with friends but now I always feel like I shouldn´t (just have couple of sips..) and it is quite noticable (my friends have been asking me if I´m pregnant which can be heartbraking while trying so hard) :dohh:

I also have asked DH to minimize his beer intake before ovulation.. again, not knowing if it has any affect at all. He is not happy but obeys, knows better than to mess with the overthinking fertility machine that is his wife.

Is this over the top? Does anyone here know the real affects sensible alcohol consumption has on fertility (both mine and DH)? I have started to feel like everything is on hold until the baby is conceived, including social life and romantic dinners.. (don´t get me wrong - alcohol is not THAT important to me but it sure feels nice sometimes)

To answer ur original question, it is more important for the male to not drink, as it effects the quality of sperm, it also takes sperm upto 3 months to be replenished. I wouldnt go to made just ask him not to get drunk reguarly ifkwim, and get him to take some good sperm building supps. XXX

Hi, I think it's just cos you said the above. When I read that first I felt really bad after drinking at 3DPO even though it was only 2 glasses of wine. Then I rationalised it and thought it couldn't be that risky. But some people might read this thread and panic if someone is saying it is a big risk.

So do u think my fertility specialist is being irresponsible by telling me to have a few drinks? Do u think his advice is responible for my m/c?

Do you know what im not even going to bother posting on this thread anymore. Why should i sit here and defend my personal opinion?
I said originally its each to their own.
Someone asked a question i gave my opinion end of.
xx
