Hi everyone,
LO has a bad latch on the left boob, we've changed positions and are trying to get it to improve but there is still a crack in the nipple and the whole areola is sore and red. Both boobs are still tender and hurt when they rub against clothing etc. I've been to the breastfeeding clinic and she told me to put polysporin and canestan on my sore left boob to prevent infections etc. but when I asked my doctor the next day she recommended Dr. Neuman's all purpose nipple ointment (APNO)...
Soooo I've got the APNO prescription filled but the pharmacist said to wash it off before each feed.. but everything I've read said to leave it if it's not a stupid amount.. so my question, has anyone used it, is it worth it to use and did you wash it off? Is it really safe for LO to ingest, even if it's just a small, small amount? Does it sound like something that will help with my sore boob or should I be trying something else?
The breastfeeding clinic wasn't that helpful so I'm going to try the local LLL meet-up on Wednesday but I REALLY just want to enjoy breastfeeding and not be terrified to feed from my left boob!
Thanks!!
