Hi everyone,
LO has a bad latch on the left boob, we've changed positions and are trying to get it to improve but there is still a crack in the nipple and the whole areola is sore and red. Both boobs are still tender and hurt when they rub against clothing etc. I've been to the breastfeeding clinic and she told me to put polysporin and canestan on my sore left boob to prevent infections etc. but when I asked my doctor the next day she recommended Dr. Neuman's all purpose nipple ointment (APNO)...

Soooo I've got the APNO prescription filled but the pharmacist said to wash it off before each feed.. but everything I've read said to leave it if it's not a stupid amount.. so my question, has anyone used it, is it worth it to use and did you wash it off? Is it really safe for LO to ingest, even if it's just a small, small amount? Does it sound like something that will help with my sore boob or should I be trying something else?

The breastfeeding clinic wasn't that helpful so I'm going to try the local LLL meet-up on Wednesday but I REALLY just want to enjoy breastfeeding and not be terrified to feed from my left boob!

Thanks!! :flower:

When my nipples start to get chapped I use the Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream. It helps so much, and doesn't need to be rinsed off before nursing so its total a lifesaver!

Thanks :) I've been using the lansinoh cream but I read that if you have open cracks it can trap the bacteria etc and cause infections or thrush.. The apno is a mixture of medications so I thought it might be a better option? From what I've read it works well.. Just looking for some personal testimonals lol

I used it, and it was the only thing that helped me with cracks. I was told by my doctor that I didn't have to wash it off -- just to apply it sparingly. It took time, but it definitely helped.

Good luck!

Thanks! I used it for the first time this afternoon and I don't know if its my imagination but it was the first time I fed him where I didn't cringe in pain so I'm very hopeful it will cure all my pain! :)

Thanks!
