All these riots everywhere!!!

Isnt birmingham quite rough in places? I was discussing this with my mum yday and she agrees that up here we just dont have the same GIANT council estates and population level. We dont have the same ethnic divide either although I do think thats a bit of an excuse for the rioters playing the race card.

Did anyone see the Sikh community on Southall and the Enfield community last night? What they did was amazing!

As for the EDL in Feltham, they ended being the ones being policed - Fools!!!

Yep totally agree with you there, OH and I were saying this last night x

The royal family do nothing at all really, they are just there for show now, they are completely powerless.

They're not. I think DC needs to run past any new laws by them for permission beofre its put in place and the queen actually receives some intelligence reports before even the PM. She can technically disolve a paliament if she wishes too i think

3 young men die in Birmingham last night as a result of rioters running over them

Thats one reason why I feel so angry when I see people taking pictures of the damage and stuff on their phones. Just go home or get out of the area :( your life is at risk doing that. Not that they should need to but ya know. Esp in Birmingham where gun crime is quite prevalent!

Apparently they were trying to protect there families business, so i guess they felt they needed to be there at that time!

Just seems like Londons halted and now everywhere else is starting...never imagined Brum to be so bad, i more expected Bradford/Oldham/Manc to be the main areas of trouble outside of London :(

:nope: I'm sure their parents would have rather seen their business go than their children, neices and nephews. Very sad. I guess you never think it will happen to you. Hopefully now people wont hestitate to get out of a situation before its too late.

I'm sure they would have, I'm sure the victims would have rathered that too, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. People who own businesses like that often have many lives relying on the income they receive from it and therefore feel they have to protect it.

Rough night :/ Was up watching 5 helicopters over notts last night! Finger's crossed if London's calmed down, then everywhere else will too x

I don't think those powers are really exercised any more though are they?

Someone was arrested in Scotland for trying to encourage rioting, who knows what would of happened if he didnt get arrested, plus Scotland isnt as big as the rest of England so they wouldnt have council estates like we do and they wouldnt have the same population which means you are less likely than we are. There are decent human beings everywhere and these scummy fools just ruin it for everyone.

Its amazing, I go to bed and wake up at 2am and there it is, more and more rioting, I wonder what the news is going to discuss when this has ended.

London had all the police though, other areas would have been running with skeleton patrols if officers were sent to London?

I hope you are all safe ladies

:hugs:

We do have council estates, believe me we have some massive shitehole areas.... it's not the same though, you're right the population is far less concentrated up here. Plus there is not and never has been the same kind of racial tension

For those overseas asking what the royal family do, they do nothing. Whatever powers they have are never (or very very rarely) exercised. They'll probably issue a statement at some point saying how shocked they are but generally they have no part in the running of the country. They are for tradition and tourism and nothing else in my opinion.

The queen has to sign off and agree to every new law/change in legislation... but whether she really has power to refuse is another matter.

xx

Can't believe this has happened just a few miles from my home.

I had friends who live close to the City centre posting on FB in the early hours how scared they were.

My sister's, niece's LO was sick because he was so scared.

I just see this as tradition (for want of a better word) x

Well. Despite Swindon having a reputation as a rough and scummy town... we remained riot free last night. I wonder if it helps that the community really pulled together a few months back during the Sian investigation/murder. I dunno. Happy though! xx

Not sure whether any of the ladies from Notts are on at the moment but here is the overnight round up by Notts Police (posted at 5am)

https://www.nottinghamshire.police....gust/10/violent_disorder_the_night_in_detail/

BBC News seems to only be reporting on Canning Circus police station being firebombed when in fact 5 stations were attacked.

There were 600 incidents altogether. :nope:

What about the TA in situations like this?

I saw an interview with someone yesterday saying they're all in Afghanistan as well.

The army budget goes up every year and we still end up in a situation where they're not there to help protect the country in this kind of situation. Makes me wonder what they're doing with them out there :nope:

Have to say though that out of all of this, I feel incredibly proud of the people making a stand against the rioters, people protecting their homes & places of worship and helping to clean up. Just shows that there's more decent people out there than thugs.

xxx

Yeah the Queen does have those powers. A lot of then are really just formality but she does have the right to dissolve parliament. I wish she'd exercise it!

We might not be going to town now. Indigo and I are so poorly and she is inconsolable so I'm seeing if I can postpone my meeting.
