We rescued a dog last year but things didnt work out, he didnt get on with my son at all, and it wasnt fair on either of them being seperated forever, but he found his forever home with my aunty in the end, so he got his happy ending :cloud9:
I hate not having a dog, have always had one growing up and the house just feels far to, empty sort of :nope:
I have been reading up on american bulldogs, but has anyone here got one? Id love to know abit more about them, someone local has pup's and im really interested. So if anyone has could you tell me abit more about them? Im fully aware every dog is different but how does yours get on with your children? Do they make good family pets, and are they prone to any other problems other than hip dysplasia? :flower:

The American Bulldog is loyal, reliable, brave and determined. Not a hostile dog. Alert and self-confident, this breed genuinely loves children. It is known for its acts of heroism towards its master. They have strong protective instincts, and need a firm, confident, consistent pack leader. Well-socialize and obedience train them at an early age, to prevent them from becoming reserved with strangers. Without that strong minded pack leader who can tell the dog what is expected of them, they may be aggressive with other dogs. They need to be around people and know their place in their pack to be truly happy. This breed tends to drool and slobber. Without enough daily mental and physical exercise they will become high strung and may become hard to handle.

Ive never owned one Ive had a british bulldog :winkwink:
I think with ALL dogs you need to train it...be commited to that and everything will follow, the last dog was not trained from a young age with your family so thats why it did not work out,it will be hard work but worth it with any dog if its done properly :happydance:

Hey hun i have a 5yr old American bull dog. we have had him for 18months and he is amazing.

he is well behaved listens to what we tell him. he has never chewed up my house he knows his place. he loves to to give my hubby kisses every morning and loves his cuddles.

He is also amazing with children. we dont have children but the kids on the street love him. he will come in and look at me to see weather i will let him go out and play with them. they place chance up and down the street he loves having lots of attention.

he is also very protected of my little niece. when we go to visit he will sit by here and watch her and if she cries he cries too.

they are amazing dogs and very loving!

the other thing my dog loves it sticks and big one more like trees really i have had him take a fence post before now and bring me a traffic cone home too he is a little monkey but funny too!!

i hope that helps hun

We had an american bulldog. He was the most loving and adorable thing ever. He was fantastic with my son and was easy to toilet train. However he went crazy if we left him alone and would destroy the house. When I had to go back to work he had to be left and he would escape and cause havoc. In the end it was better for us to rehome him as he just couldnt be left alone, it wasnt his fault. He was just so loyal he wanted to be with us always.
In general they are VERY intelligent dogs and need a lot of excercise 2 long walks each day or they will get destructive, and need to be well socialised as with all dogs I guess. I did find he got a lot of bad looks for being a big dog though, people would be scared of him but he would never of harmed them, he just wanted to play.
I think I've babled a bit but what im trying to say is there amazing loving dogs and fx youll be very happy if you get one. :D

Thankyou so much for your replys. From everything ive read and heard they sound like the perfect dog for us x

My friend has an American bulldog and he is so disobiedant she's at her wits end he just chewed off her new 800£ dining room sofa, he is great with her son though but never listens to my friend and OS very hyper. He's a lovely dog and only 9 months.

I have an American Bulldog, he is two years old. He is an amazing dog, full of energy but also very obedient and understands when enough is enough. They are very powerful dogs, and love to play. Extremely loyal and very cuddly lol. When we first got Bosco, he chewed everything, my hair dryer, my partners wallet, drivers licences, everything. They need a lot of attention and training early on to break them of the bad habbits. Bosco now comes on command, understands sit, stay, up, down, shake and a lot of other commands. And most importantly is fantastic with my daughter, even when she is pulling on him constantly.
