is it me or do hospitals treat young people with so much lack of respect?!
i went for my scan today, only to be told that after i couldnt have my scan pictures because the machine was out of order, yet i saw her print off 5 pictures! i went to complain, and they said that they need to keep them for there files for measurements .. am i right to ask for my pictures or am i not entitled to my babys scan pictures!? X

I totally agree, ive been patronised and looked down on by all the people i have had to deal with during my pregnancy! its soo not fair! you are entitled to ur pictures, dont take no for an answer hunny!! x

Of course you are! I think you'll have to pay for them, but they're YOUR scan photos!
I had so many problems getting the healthcare I needed whilst pregnant (I found out late and didn't fit into the NHS schedule of appointments that you're supposed to have, so they assumed it was alright for me to not have ANY prenatal care) but you just need to be persistent. Get arsey hormonal pregnant lady if you have to!!

i dont mind paying for them, im gutted, coz they were of her face and everything!! and its been hard to gett a picture like that, coz she was faced down :-) .. i think i may ring the hospital up! X

Ive never heard of them needing to keep them on record. Really for what purpose do they need pictured of YOUR babies face for. Perhaps when you see your midwife tell her you want the photo as you dont have any and want some sort of memory of your pregnancy.

I was 18 when i had my first. Id have to say i was never treated any differently but when it came to having my son, one nurse was really mean. I was so happy when her shift was over and made friends with a lovely midwife who got me my own room with a queen bed lol

iv been very lucky actually, Maybe its cause i dont look my age or summit, but nobody has been at all patronising!. Your are entittled to your scan photos!, I always did think it was a total waste, My hospital printed off double the amount of photos they gave me and just put them in the bin!, id have had them :(

My god, of course you are, they are pictures of YOUR baby! Complain ASAP!

They do keep pictures in your file for their records. Think of it in a positive way, if the sonographer misses something important that is very clear in one of the pictures, they will have to take responsibility.
If the machine wasn't working (I'm guessing it was a stamp payment machine) they should have had someone there with a roll of stamps taking payments into a secure box.
It's not fair that you shouldn't be able to have your scan pictures because their machine is faulty. I would complain.
But to be honest it doesn't sound like it had anything to do with you being young at all.

I agree with PP, in that this doesn't seem to be them having an issue about your age.

How annoying not to have been able to get print offs though, though I suppose this serves to remind us all that scans are for medical purposes and not just for our enjoyment, so sometimes these things can't be helped :hugs:

TBH, i was 15 when pregnant with my son (just turned 16 before I had him) and did not have any negative reactions from hospital staff, midwives or even the general public and I certainly did look my age! I think that alot of younger mums are all too aware of how young they are so see 'signs' that people are looking down on them when 90% of the time they probably aren't at all. It works the same for everyone i'd think, even 'older' mums. Unless someone specifically says something to you, then don't let it bother you or take it to heart :hugs:

Seeing as you're 29 weeks, they can't usually get a very good photo anyway - my local hospital gets you to pay for your photos first, and won't let you get them if you're over 25 weeks because you'll just waste your money. Maybe that had something to do with it?

I've never heard of having a scan at 29 weeks :S Unless to check for growth or an emergency one

3D scans are good. Who are you going with? I went with babybond and they gave my Dad some free copies of a few of the photos. They were really friendly. The only problem I had with them was that Liam didn't want to move much and the woman kept wobbling my stomach to try and get him moving. He probably stopped moving in protest.
Before you go eat or drink something with a lot of energy in it to try and wake bubba up a bit (that's what the receptionist told me to do.)
