Anybody just started Metformin? - Need Buddy

Hey shlindz

I started on 1500mg on Tuesday and my side effects became worse again...Ekkks. I had pretty terrible nausea esp. on wed and thurs evenings. And I DO take 2 normal meals. I eat a light breakfast usually. Its true that small but more regular meals might help more than 3 normal meals. I realize that the hungrier I am before I eat, the more I feel nauseous..... hmmmm....

My diarrhoea disappeared on Monday before I increased my dosage. And 2 days after I took 1500mg it appeared again. However, the diarrhoea doesn´t disturb me as much as the nausea. As I´m typing this, I´m feelin a bit nauseous again....

I´m thinking it might also be because of my tiredness.......had a very stressful week and didn´t sleep much....so perhaps there was an effect on the side effect????

Hi cheerio i have always gradually increased my met but the dosage that i'm currently on which is 500mg 3 times a day seems to suit me a bit better that taking 2 larger doses! I have been to see my RE today and she said she is considering increasing the dose as she feels this will reduce the length of my cycles, they are currently 40 days+ ! As for knowing if you ovulate, there is a blood test you can have done to show whether your ovulating or not,

nic

I see.... yeah my ENdo wants me to take 2000mg in total.... I´m dreading it really...because the side effects are really not nice!!! Do you know what blood test that is called? Because my gynae said the only way to see if you´re ovulating is to check your BBT. How long were you on Metformin before your cycles were regulated?

shlindz - I read that you´re on the gradual release Metformin, am I right? I think that makes all the difference! I think this is the first and last time I´m going to be on the regular Metformin..... If I get pregnant this time and have to take Metformin the next time to get Pregnant, I´ll make sure my doc. prescribes me the gradual release one!

I read that gradual release is much better than regular Metformin...I´m on regular.

Hey Cheerios - yes - 6 small meals - particularly low GI - I guess this provides a steady release of glucose so you don't get any spikes - smoothly does it hey!!! :)

Hi girls! Cheerios -- i conceived my son from a previous relationship without any assistance. I am not diagnosed with PCOS -- i am now in a same-sex relationship so started seeing a fertility doctor & will have IUI. My blood work showed high insulin numbers, so doc suspects insulin resistance... that is why she prescribed the Metf. I have always had regular 28-30 day cycles... but recently it is more in the 33-40 day range. I know i need to lose weight to help regulate things as well.

I just increased to two pills a day. The diarreah symptoms come & go... and there has been an increase in headaches & some dizziness. Nowhere near as bad as the first few days of taking it though.

I was very excited bc i spotted today on CD28 so it seemed the pills were helping... but now the spotting has stopped?!

My doc wont do the IUI until my insulin levels normalize.

Hey MommyTammy - Are you on 1000mg now? I´m fainting under 1500mg. Have been on it for about 6 days now and have had nausea every single day! Its the nausea and bad GI problems that is giving me a hard time. I can take diarrhoea more easily actually. I think I might call in sick at work tomorrow and go to the doctor to get a medical note for a few days.... can´t seem to take the nausea at work any longer.

I´m a bit opposite from you. My symptoms when I increased from 1000 to 1500mg seem to be worse than when I first started.... yikes....

Ya I'm taking the gradual release. I'm pretty certain that helps a lot. I'v been feeling way better symptom wise ever since I started watching the foods I was eating. I avoided greasy and sugary foods for a few days and suddenly I'v had like symptoms. Just a little light headedness here and there. I agree with HB1, low GI is the way to go.

hi all i'm now trying to take 2 750g a day but not doing very well, just so tired but will keep trying good luck all :)

Hey! That´s quite a bit.... I´m taking 1500mg too and I get tired easily too. But my main problem is nausea attack....been on 1500mg for more than a week now and it doesn´t feel like the nausea is getting any better.....

what about you? Any nausea? Headache? I´ve had migraine attacks....

I'v been on the 1500mg for about a week now and haven't had any problems. It was like the side affects just started fading away. I haven't felt nauseous, dizzy, light-headed, etc... in about 5 days. I made the few changes in my diet and it's all working great. I'v got a good feeling about this cycle!!!

just popped my first 500mg pill, taking 1 a day for the first week then doubling to 1000mg, so lets see if i am symptom free....am keeping my fingers crossed!

Hey Cheerios, how ya doin? Are your side affects lessening yet? I don't get any side affects anymore. I hope you're the same :)

ineedaseed - What dosage are you supposed to be on?

Shlindz - Hey! Thanks for asking! Lucky you! I don´t have side effects either, but that´s because I lowered my dosage to 1,000mg. My migraines literally stopped the day i lowered the dosage. Now, I just have to be aware of drinking enough water during the day, so that I don´t get headaches....May I ask, when do you take your pills?

I´ll ask my Endo. about XR when I have my appt end April.

Hey cheerios
I am on 500 and doubling up from tommoruw. I take my pills at night with my dinner x

Ya I take my pills at night too. Usually around 7ish. I try to take them with food, but my dinner time changes too often. So I just decided 7 is a good average. I'm sorry to hear you had to lower your dosage. I hope you find a way to fix it :)

Hey Shlindz - Its really not bad. I´m really glad I lowered my dosage, if not I think I wouldn´t have survived the migraines for another consecutive week. It was horror! Now my headaches are gone, I´m thinking of increasing my dosage again.... but I really am a bit scared, because I can really remember how horrible the migraines were!

I'm glad your feeling better. Ya it would really suck to get your migraines back again. fingers crossed for you.

Are you charting or anything? This is my first cycle on Met and I'm on Day 20 with no O still. Just curious if you're in the same boat?

Hey Shlindz
I charted for 1 mth, during which I got a fever. So I stopped charting after that. Not sure if I want to chart again, because I wanted to start charting when my period started...and since it hasn't started since Jan, so I haven't charted - don't know if that's a lame excuse, but that's why I haven't charted....

Do you usually ovulate yourself?

I'v been charting for a while. It's probably the only thing that keeps me sane during a cycle. If I didn't chart I'd be thinking every little gas pain or belly twinge was O. lol

I don't think I'v ever ovulated on my own. First round of clomid (50mg) my follicles didn't even grow big enough to ovulate. I'm on my second round of clomid (100mg) plus the met and still no O. I'm CD 25 so I'm starting to think this cycles a bust. I wasn't monitored this cycle (my choice), so I don't even know if the follies grew or not. Next cycle I won't be monitored again, but I'm moving up to 150mg of clomid plus the met. So fingers crossed O will happen.

If you don't get your period and you know for sure your not pregnant you should ask your doctor for Provera or some other progesterone to kick start the next cycle. That's what I do when my cycle is realy long. It beats waiting for a no-show AF.

Hey Shlindz
I see, I didn't know you're on Clomid too...Your doctor's nice!!! My doc refuses to give me Clomid until my AF is regulated..... I'm soo thankful that my AF finally came yesterday. It came about 1 mth after I started taking Metformin, so I hope that its the Metformin that brought the AF. Still, its like the first AF in 3 months...I hope my cycles get shorter soon.

Are your cycles usually regular?
