I got an appointment letter through the post with my 12 week scan, telling me that I would need an Obstetrics appointment at 20 weeks. With no detail as to why... I've gone onto search about this to find that this isn't the norm?

I can only think of two explanations as to why they would give me an extra appointment with a specialist (a 'Mr' so he's gotta be high up :haha:), 1) I had to explain my previous history of eating disorders (although now 'recovered') and 2) I'm rhesus negative

Anyone else had any appointment like this and know what to expect?

:hugs:

In the US it's typical to have your Ultrasound at 20 weeks. I have one scheduled. So not sure if it would be anything to worry about.

I'm from the UK, and they tend to do as little as possible! :haha: :flower:

I'm not too concerned, I thought thought it was odd; and kindve annoying since I'm left to guess what to expect because they haven't stated anything. I'm a low risk pregnancy, although I've had several bleeds. I'm young (ish) and this baby is my first.

Is it for your anomaly scan? That's standard at 20 weeks, surely? Mine is swiftly followed by a 21 week check up with the midwife. I haven't had letters through the post for any of mine though, they just tell me at the latest appointment when the next one will be.

No, its not for my scan, I was told when that would be at my 12 week scan, and I have a MW appointment a couple of weeks later too. :flower:

Standard aps and scans are at 12 & 20 weeks. Its absolutely normal to have one at 20
Weeks

I have a 20 week anomaly scan in addition to my 12 week scan. If you are Rh- they may start injection around that time as well.

Thanks for the replies guys :flower:
Sophie, as I said, I'm from the UK, it's not standard to have an OB appointment at 20 weeks. Although it is standard to have a scan (which I'm having today). They are normally for women with difficult pregnancies or previous problems.

Ofire, my injections start at 28 weeks :flower:

I have an extra appointment booked a few days before my 20week scan, but that is because of a previous mc. I guess it could be because you are rheusus negative, although i dont really know much about that. Maybe if you are concerned you could just ring up and ask them to explain the reason for it,to put your mind at ease?
