***April Sweet Peas*** 204 Babies

Freyasmum - we found Ellie was posseting a lot with Cow and Gate and so we switched to Hipp Organic and *touch wood* no posseting so far in the last 24 hours. Might not be applicable if you're breastfeeding though.

Ellie eats between 2 and 3 hours all day and night. It's not so bad at the moment as my hubby does a night feed and we take day feeds in turn but I'm dreading him going back to work and having to do 90% of the work myself!

We had Eloise weighed today by the health visitor and she's gained 8oz in 6 days and is now 6oz heavier than her birth weight so I'm comfortable that we're doing well for her. I desperately wanted to breastfeed but it just wouldn't happen for us (positioning due to my J cup boobs was awful, Ellie wouldn't latch very well at all and we both ended up anxious and crying at each feed) but knowing she's thriving on formula eases the guilt a little.

Here's a cheeky photo of my little girl from yesterday (15 days old), I can't resist showing her off!

She's so cute!!!

I'm mainly BFing at the moment, with some formula feeds thrown in (kinda when I feel like it, or don't, as the case may be!). I'm building up to getting him on formula by the time I return to work (mid July). I think he possets less with the formula than he does with BF, so may start increasing the formula feeds to see if that helps.

He's certainly getting enough to eat though - he gained over 500g in two weeks!

mrsraggle, she is absolutely adorable! I can't believe all that hair she's got!

aww shes lovely mrsraggle. Has anyone had their postnatal yet? Ive got mine today at 10.30 cant remember what they do though xx

She's so cutsie putsie MrsRaggle! Lol...love these little newborns. I feel I enjoy it that much more this time as I'm with a supportive partner, unlike with my son years ago. Things are a million times happier.

Thank you for your comments on supplementing Freya'smum. I really appreciate it. I do feel a bit better about it today as, like you said, there's enough to feel bad about without adding to it, and in reality, he's eating and peeing/pooping properly now since yesterday, so that's the main thing. After his first full feed on formula yesterday, he gave my husband (who was feeding him) a big fat smile! What more validation do I need? LOL..I know some might say they can't really smile at this age, but I believe he really truly did. And he's smiled loads in his sleep now and hadn't before.

Tasha360, I'm not sure what the postnatal is other than maybe to just check on your bleeding/stitches/emotional state/general welfare? I would be betting that's what they'll check me for when it comes up.

Well i had postnatal, didnt really do much just checked Demi over and asked me questions bout how i was feeling and chatted about contraception. Demi is 8lbs15oz now and shes just below average but gaining well. x

Hello All

10 days late letting you know, but Alfie Ray made an appearance at 2.43am on Saturday 15th May weighing in at 3.5kg/7lb 11 oz (and 53 cm long).

It wasa bit of a surprise as we were told to expect 81/2 - 9lb. Lucky me I guess.

I will write up a birth story properly later, but the little man is stirring so I think I may be called away.

Short version is.... induced Friday lunch time, one pessary bought on contractions, by 8pm was only 2 cm.....couple of co-codamol......by 11pm was climbing the walls....called hubby back at 11.30pm as I was 8cm....taken down to labour suite at 11.50pm and got my first blast on the gas n air, and little Alfie was delivered at 2.43am.

Couple of stitches and lots of cuddles later, we were back on the maternity ward.

We had a great experience with the midwives and maternity ward at Good Hope Hospital....couldn't recommend or commend them enough....the peadiatrics department is a different kettle of fish all together. But the less said the better.

We've struggled with latching, so have been expressing for now. It has gutted me not being able to b/f, but he's getting the same stuff for now. Had my baby blue days, which weren't great, but seeing the light on the other side now. He's sleeping well, and had lost only 250g of birth weight at 6 days, by 8 days was back up 140g.

I'm just bowled over and soooooo in love with him.

Hope everyone else is well

Checking in to say hi. I just updated the front page with all the new births. We are 12 babies away from 200. I'll try to play catch up in the next couple of days.

Ah mrsraggle she's so sweet. Congrats nicnac!

I am hovering now around the april and march threads. Will you still have me on the april thread???!

Aww nicnac, Alfie Ray is so cute! We delivered at Good Hope too! I was on ward 5 after delivery due to c-section and the midwives there were lovely especially a lady called Natasha.

:wohoo: thanks!!!

I started going in the march thread but they all know each other from before so I felt like a fraud

So Max has been asleep most of the morning. What's going on?! But last night was good. he had a feed at 11pm and then slept til 3.30am and then woke up at 7am. So feeling rather refreshed. Had a shower when DH was having breakfast and it's now 10.15 and I feel like I've been up forever.

I bought Max some Lamaze wrist and ankle rattles and am going to try him with them today when he wakes up. lol
Off to Meadowhall in a bit, he normally sleeps all the time there so as he's slept all morning am wondering what he'll do. He normally only naps 3 x 30 mins a day so this morning has taken me aback a bit but he looks happy enough that I'm not going to wake him.

Just been watching inspirational children on Jeremy Kyle. Wow the kids are really amazing. Got me thinking about the jabs though, is anyone not having their LO immunised? I've got Max's on Thursday and I am def having them done.

Have a lovely Wednesday!

I'll definitely be going for the immunizations. It's all a real personal choice and I totally understand both sides. I went through a period of like a year of being totally anti-injections but since then I've decided the illness they could get from not getting immunized is worse than the speculations about what's in the vaccines. That's just my conclusion but I truly feel to each their own on that.

Well, I've been to a breastfeeding lady and she recommended fennel tea, motilium, and eating porridge to up my supply. I can only pump out like one ounce between both breasts at a time right now. It's really rotten. I'm supplementing formula but after I've put him to both breasts. He's totally lazy on the boob and it's a real struggle to keep him awake. I'm having a tough time of it all right now as between breastfeeding, bottlefeeding to supplement, and then pumping straight after, I feel like the whole of the day is just gone, lol..I can totally see the temptations for just going with formula but I just can't right now. I feel like I have to persevere and hope it works out.

Congrats NicNac! She's super lovely :)

Awesome weight gain Freyasmum, you must be delighted! I can't wait to see my own little man putting it on..hopefully will see a difference Friday. :)

Ive chosen not to take Korben for his jabs, this article totally knocked me off knowing that thimerasol (mecury) and aluminium phosphates/hydroxide & formaldehyde (embalming fluid) was in the live vaccines.

raspberry leaf tea suppoed o be good too xx

Yay! That's great news! Hope all goes smoothly and see you back here when you can :)

I'm bummed at the moment. Baby T's lost half a pound since birth now. I don't think he's getting enough hindmilk as he gets sleepy at the ten minute mark when the hindmilk is suppose to come in, and it's a chore to keep him awake and sucking away, and sometimes I'm not even sure if he's actually feeding on anything then or just suckling without effect. But I'm trying to keep him awake now and hoping come Monday he'll show a weight gain instead. He's got wet diapers but is only pooping like twice a week instead of a lot like I would expect. I don't want to top with formula and I'm really hoping I can sort this. It wasn't so hard with my son years ago..blegh.

I've been having a similar problem, Gabriella has only put on 3.5 ounces in 3 weeks  So tonight she got her first formula feed to help build her up a bit. I feel like a complete failure, but at least I know my poor wee baby had been fed properly!

I'm under orders to do nothing but rest, express, and sleep all weekend, but they think it is the Crohn's Disease which might be the problem so I'm trying to come to terms with the idea of needing to carry on combination feeding her.

I'm going to give her 2 FF per day and get her weighed again on Monday to see if there is any improvement, if she hsn't gained at least 1oz I'll be thinking about medication to up my supply, and maybe more FF....

Never thought I'd have to FF :sad1:

im no expert but i do think some babies just gain weight slower than others. does she seem satisfied after each feed? my son was always very small and didnt gain much weight and i never stopped worrying but i managed to breastfeed for a year and hes now 2 and doesnt stop eating but is still only 25lbs. my daughter on the other hand gained over 1lb in the 1st 2 weeks and im due to have her weighed tomorrow and im not doing anything differently. See how you go hun
xx

Hope everyone's well.

We've managed to start a bit of a bedtime routine with Ellie. We start to get ready for bed, do a bath and massage her skin from 10pm, she has a 90ml bottle and she's asleep by 11pm. Then wakes between 3.30 and 4 for her next feed. The problem I have then is she takes 40-50ml then wakes 90 minutes to 2 hours later and takes another 40-50ml... is there any way I can encourage her to take a little bit more at the 4am feed??

Have you tried changing her halfway through a feed? I have to do this with Demi to wake her up, then she takes the rest of the bottle. xx

Just what I was about to suggest. I do that too - for the same reason, and also because Ollie inevitably poops while I feed him. Saves me doing it twice. :)
