Can we eat Arby's Roast Beef or any type of lunch meat while pregnant? I have not yet met with my doctor and just am not sure.

From what I have read, as long as it is cooked then it's fine.

Arbys roast beef is highly processed and heated to 160° several times before it gets to your Beef N Cheddar, so its probably fine in the Listeria sense. Its probably bad for you in many other senses, but you can get away with it in moderation.

And now I want a Beef N Cheddar and some tater cakes :delicious:

:D

Technically you can still eat lunch meat, just make sure you know who's making the sandwich, like you don't want meat that has been sitting out for a long time. The concern with lunch meat is that if it's allowed to sit out, it can grow bacteria which can be harmful to you/the baby since your immune system is already lowered due to being pregnant. Ultimately warmed meat is better since it heats/kills the bacteria. But I still make sandwiches with cold meat at home since I know it's properly refrigerated and stored.

As long as it's warm it's fine. Also, it's okay if they slice the meat there. I still get sandwiches from our local sub shop, because they slice it fresh right in front of you =]

That's what I've read as well. That you need to heat until it's steaming to ensure you've killed off any listeria. So a hot sandwich is probably fine.. a cold one could be a little tricky. Though I've also read that you probably don't need to worry at subways and the like because they have such stringent guidelines to ensure they don't get people sick... But that said, I reckon even if they make it so that the odds are really in your favor, if you're that 1 in a million, it doesn't matter how many ate before you and were fine, ya know?

It's all confusing.. hard to know what rules to adhere to and which are just too slim a chance to really care about.

Now all I can think about is an Arby's roast beef sandwich! Damn this hunger.

OP, I imagine an Arby's sandwich is fine but not sure about other sandwiches, especially cold ones. Made me a bit sad to hear that lunch meat is no longer an option unless I know it has been cooked properly.

Hi there,

From what I've read and what the doctor told me, it is that they recommend to heat up all cold meats to kill bacteria since not all of them are cooked fully. To prevent getting sick of listeria.

I've read that even at places where they slice the meat in front of you, you still have to consider whether the slicer is clean and free of bacteria.

Its all been said, but seriously, I've been craving a Beef n' Cheddar today!! Uurrgg!

I eat at a sub shop once every week and although they slice the meat right there in front of you, I do have them microwave it until steaming which is recommended. This goes for all meats including meat you have prepared and sliced yourself. Just heat it up first and it isn't a problem. Arby's is fine because they serve it hot.

Honestly i have been having subway sandwiches I didnt have mine heated. So far im fine. But that is just my personal decision. I have known many MANY pregnant women in the past that have eaten deli meats and been fine:thumbup: but if you are worried. Just make sure its steaming.:winkwink:

I sure hope so cuz Arby's french dips have been my craving. And I've been eating 'em up.
