Are you living below the poverty line?

Were £31 over the poverty line P/W including Tax Credits, Child Benefit, and Working Tax Credit.

According to those figures we are just above it xxx

I put non-working household, below the line. We are both students though so live on OH's student loan (I don't have one as I do OU). I don't feel like we're below the poverty line. We struggle sometimes but have money other times, we are certainly not struggling compared to 90% of the world.

One income household, above the line (we have about £500 a week after housing)

im welllll below this. im a single mum with 1 LO & have £200 a month after bils etc.. :/

We're above, it's over £2k on average after rent but it reduces massively after the rest of our bills and I would say we're okay but far from rich so I think the threshold is too low.

We are just slightly above with 2 children, 2 adults and 1 wage coming in. we have to be careful and spending money on things we don't 'need' like holidays or meals out etc have to be carefully considered. We can just about pay the bills, if we want extras then we have to hope DH gets some over time!

I think we are above it for a one working adult 2 children house hold but my maths was never that great

I dont feel like I am in poverty

Well only my OH works at the moment and we have two children. Based on the figures in the OP we are above the poverty line but not by that much. However i would dispute that. As in i think we are way above the poverty line not a little above it. We can pretty much afford anything and everything as long as we are careful. We couldn't afford 5* holidays but we can afford to go away and we could afford 2 cars if we really wanted to. We could afford to eat out a few times a month, but we don't. ETC.

We're pretty much bang on the line will be under when mat leave finishes and I got back to work. We're ok we have just enough to treat ourselves or more like treat the girls :) we pay around £200 a month on debt tho so without that we would be very comfortable but hey that's life we were young and enjoyed ourselves and spent too much money.

Two income household, we have £505 per week left after rent so above.

After bills though we have like £20!! Lol.

we are quite a bit over the poverty line. Thats with one working FT and one PT.

Where do the figures come from?

I think for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids 1200 a month after rent or mortgage is not anywhere near to being in poverty?

We are a 1 income household ( 2 adults, 2 kids + pets) and above the poverty line xx

Was talking with my sister about this earlier today. She is a single parent with 2 children and she isn't working due to her circumstances. She is on very minimal benefits and is definitely under the poverty line by a long way but as she said - she doesn't feel in the least bit poor. She can still afford to buy nice things for her and her girls and she can still afford to eat out but going on holiday is harder than it used to be (when her OH was still with them).

I think we (1 working,3 children) would probably be on/below the poverty line if I worked it out.
However,we dont have any debt and dont waste money,smoke/drink or go out much so have plenty to spend on food, clothes(not expensive ones though),days out with the kids and holidays.
I dont think we are poor.I think it depends largely on what you spend it on.

These are the official government figures for 2010/11 released earlier this year.

Seems like the general consensus is that the figures are quite high.

Below here, DH works and, for now, i am a SAHM with 2 children
