I think also...its ok to make up your own signs. There is no law that they have to be ASL based. I mean you, your partner and baby will be the only ones using it and if not you can just tell other people what they mean!

we have been using the sign for milk with ern (but we say 'milkies') for a few weeks now and these last few days he has started to try to move his fingers, he looks at what we are doing and looks at his own hand -he isnt quite there yet but wont be long!!

good point...i have just been looking thro my library book and its all pretty simple stuff but i'm sure it would work just as well if u made ur own signs...its just a different hand gesture for different words.

Kirsten see if ur local library's got books on it...the book i got is just called baby sign and its split into sections like 'basic signs' u start with (it also has pics of each sign being used by both an adult and a child) then progresses to include more signs as the book goes on. Also the library had a few 'sing along with actions' books (we've currently got 'the wheels on the bus' which Kian is loving) which use basic signs for the lyrics to the songs. Its fun stuff...pos more so for me than Kian at the mo coz he just looks at me like i'm a nutter waggling my hands around at him :p

we use signing (i did an 'ask a mum' thread on it) Rhys is fluent and uses it constantly and Ffion learns new signs every day

My OH and I are currently arguing slightly about when to move Theakston into his room. I want to wait 6months, he reckons 'the longer we leave it, the harder it'll be'. However, LO has gone from sleeping through to waking 3 or more times a night. On the one hand I think maybe I'm waking him up moving and on the other I think if I'm not and he keeps doing it then I've got to get up and go across the hall to get him 3x a night and by the time I hear him on the monitor and get there he'll probably be wide awake whereas at the moment I just scoop him onto the shoulder and he drops back off.

i dunno what to suggest  i don't believe the longer u wait the harder it'll b...i believe if u wait til the right moment (when ever that is) then the easier it'll b. Kian was pretty happy to move rooms (i missed him far more than he missed me!) but then he's never really wanted comforting at night (he gets quite bothered if i cuddle him when he's sleepy...i think he likes his own space)
I suspect me and OH used to wake Kian by mistake in the night (OH snores really loudly!) coz he sleeps much better now he's in his own room...i haven't had to go in there during the night except breifly at 5am this morning but that was coz he's crawled to one end of the cot and was bumping his head...but he'd stayed asleep, just the banging sounds and the grunts coming from Kian over the monitor woke me up! :p

you could try the own room thing if u feel the times right but if LO isn't happy maybe move him back in with u and wait a while? thats what i'd do (well thats what i did do...only i didn't need to move Kian back in...i still have his crib in there 'just in case' tho)

It's actually really common for babies around his age to start waking with every sound. They are more aware of their enviroment...so it could be that yall are waking him up. We coslept and it really wasn't an issue with Casen or Hayden...but would def have been with Landon, he wouldn't have got sleep. It might help? But I def don't think it makes it harder the older they are. We coslept with Casen til 11mo, Hayden til 12mo but didn't move himt o his own room until 15-16mo....they both did fine.

Good morning ladies! How is everyone? Anyone have any big or exciting plans for this weekend?

I can't believe Lakai is a year old in NINE days! We are having his bday party on the 31st the day I went into preterm labor no less. I think its very neat now that he won't be developmentally one till Feb, so he is a baby longer! =))

I'm doing good today...in about 1 1/2hrs I'm going to pick up a friend then heading out to another friend's house to get ready for a Halloween party. Should be fun! I can't wait, I seriously almost never do anything without the kids so it should be a nice relaxing night :)

I still think it's odd that you are getting up when it's evening here! :dohh:

Nic, what are you doing for Lakai's birthday?

Thanks for your advice ladies. I'll keep tabs on things. At the moment he seems to wake due to wind more than anything and doesn't even stir when I open and close the door to go to the toilet etc (we have it shut to keep the cat out) so I'll see how it goes.

im off out later to the inlaws for lunch.. gonna try Ffion in her new Mei Tai again.. no idea why she doesnt like it :dohh:

I found with E that the more interesting things there was for him to look at while I was wearing him, the happier he is. So when I try a new carrier I take him for a walk right away and that distracts him.

If I'm just standing around then he gets "ants in his pants" and wants down. Can make shopping lineups and church interesting sometimes :S

We are having a party! hehe...on Halloween, my favorite non-holiday! We invited friends and family, we had these amazing invites...for a time capsule and they STILL have not come..they were sent on Oct 5 just from the state..boo.

But we are just going to visit and have people over. Nothing huge.

We bought lots of finger foods yesterday from Costco, so people will eat well. I was going to do a Batman theme bday but I couldnt find anything Batman but wrapping paper. So its a Halloween party instead.

I need to make some goodie bags, even though its mostly adults coming!!

i luuuurv halloween. OH and i met at a hlloween party (well actually we met years bcoz OH went to school with my sisters Husband but we count that party as when we offically met coz it was there that we swapped no.s and arranged our first date a few days later!) We got married on the 1st of Nov and had pumkins as our centre peices in honor of halloween!

have a good party x

We need lots and lots of pictures of the party

today Edward turns 9 months. I can't hardly believe it, the time has gone by so fast. And that I've breastfeed this long. Concidering the doubt I had before he was born and how much trouble we had getting it astablished, it's amazing that we are still going strong.

I just wore Edward to the park and then he had a nice swing and then we walked home. He sang the whole way home, it's so cute when we are face to face like that, I would miss so much if I had put him in the stroller.

hi all.
I never heard of AP before until i just came across this tread, I AP without knowing what it was, I co sleep partime as my baby has never slept well, she wakes all night every 2 hrs ish, shes done this from birth, she 4.5 months now.

I carry her everywhere, and would like advice on a good sling/carrier please, i see you mention a mei tai, is this the best carrier for a non aching back?

I have to rock her to sleep at bed time and nap times otherwise she wouldnt nap, and only ever naps for 30 mins.

i did this accidentially as she had colic and i had to rock her to stop crying every night and it carried on.

good to read all your storys x

I love my mei tai...it's Baby Hawk brand...it's wonderful. I have terrible hips, need hip replacement and my legs are 2 diff lengths due to previous surgeries. The mei tai made him feel like his weight was part of me, not pulling on any direction, didn't hurt my hips or back...it's great. I still even use it and he's 2 now...he loves riding in it
