Hi ladies, I know the general opinion regarding baby outfits is that too many are a waste and that baby will mainly be in sleepsuits but we have waited sooo long for this baby and always longed to be able to buy all the cute baby clothes.

The baby is due 26th November so will be here for the festive season. Is it really silly to buy little outfits for her to wear? I appreciate that she will wear sleepsuits but when we have visitors or are out doing things I would like to dress her up a bit.

What are you all doing?:flower: xxx

i've bought outfits did with my first too and he wore them all only did 0-3 though but he was a big boy so basically went into them and i've only bought 0-3 out fits this time don't see harm at all i used them everyone is different. i say go for it x

We have outfits too :) Granted we have sleepsuits and onesies coming out of our ears, but we have a fair few outfits too, Id quite like her to wear outfits when we go out :)

Oh thanks ladies! We have bought vests and sleepsuits but I am getting so many people saying that we just need a couple of outfits and anything else will be a waste that its doing my head in! Surely as I will be the one dressing her they can't be a waste cos I will be putting her in them. I have 1 newborn outfit just in case but the rest is 0-3 xxx

It's your baby Hun - it's upto you how you dress him/her. From the start I like to put them in a babygro at night and an outfit in the day. I only start off with very soft outfits but I think it's good to differentiate between daytime and nighttime at an early age. Buy what you like x

I've bought a lot of clothes - if I see something cute, I'll buy it! I love spending money on my baby, and it's not exactly like I can buy myself any clothes :(

I'm gonna be doing fashion shows with my LO :D

I have clothes coming out of my ears; but anything to small will be going to my friends who are due after me. I indulged in getting her cute outfits; I want my little girl decked out in cute stuff (because I wasn't really).

I think it is your own preference sweety!

I think it really just come down to how much money you have: if you buy her loads of cute outfits but have to borrow from your mom to make the rent, that would be tacky and wasteful. But someone else who is comfortably well off buying the same outfits is reasonable.

I think the big thing is to understand that cute outfits are a "want" not a "need". You have to recognize that you are buying them for you, as a treat for you, not because she needs them, or cares. I know lots of people that are in financial trouble because they like to spend, spend, spend and they justify it by making it about their kids. But if you have the money, there's nothing wrong with indulging yourself--if you'd get more pleasure from seeing her in a cute outfit than from a trip to the movies, then by all means skip the movie and buy the outfit.

Well I used to get my hair cut monthly and haven't had it done since feb so that probably gives you an idea of the sacrifices Im making! We save what we can each month so that if I see a cute outfit then I have the money to spend, however I havent spent more than £16 on an outfit as that does seem a bit pointless! Its not an issue of money as although things will be tight we have budgeted so that we can afford to buy her nice things, haven't borrowed a penny of anyone and the bills are always paid for first xxx

Oh hun! i totally understand!! i was told just get sleepsuits... babys dont wear anything else....
YEAH right!.... i have 3.5 drawers and his wardrobe full, with newborn to 0-3... :)
its your baby and yes somedays all s/he will be in is baby grows but its our own baby we can dress emup how we want!!

enjoy go shopping!!

and to be honest i dont have everything brand new cause yes they do only wear it once or twice so dont be afraid to look on ebay or local boot sales you can get some nearly new stuff for real cheap!

entirely your choice..if u have patience to get her all dressed up pretty then possibly either worry clothes will get stained due to pooey nappies or sicky stuff & change her again every few hours..i think the plainer the outfit the easier it is at change times but also comfort wise for baby...we all feel so much more comfy lazing arnd in a soft tracksuit/jarmies etc...

also some outfits are just so not baby friendly some of little jeans are like cardboard..i wouldnt even put my 5 yr old in them...

i know lots of parents get great pleasure of dressing little ones up in lovely outfits & if thats what you like then thats up to you...i tend to go for comfort & ease...but thats me...everyone is different so enjoy being u.

I wont worry about change times as whether she is in a sleepsuit or an outfit they will still go in the wash, babies are sick and poo, cant be helped! xxx

Do not get too many outfits you wont use them. buy them as needed but just have a few.

if its what you want to do go for it. I havent bought any outfits but thats because my baby is shy lol and I dont know if I'm having a boy or a girl so am waiting xx

With my DD she only wore sleepsuits her first day and then for bedtime. So i bought loads of cute baby outfits! she had a huge wardrobe and i used every item of clothing at least 4 times!
Il be doing the exact same thing this time around and babys wardrobe is already bursting with big frilly dresses and cute outfits!
I also swear that my DD was so good at STTN so early because she got used to the difference between night and day with the clothes she was wearing, i know that it was probably just coincidence but it was too much of a coincidence to ignore, she used to have short light naps of a day and then sleep through first from 11:30-6 and gradually it crept up until she slept from 10-7 at about 6 weeks then from about 3 months she slept 7-7 and still does.

Buy as many outfits as you want! you can always sell them on after on ebay, newborn clothes are always in such good condition that they are easy to sell!
have fun on your shopping spree! lol! xxx

ETA i agree with Serendipity40 tho about some outfits being unsuitable, try not to get any of the cardboard jeans and check the stitching on the inside, you dont want anything rubbing or digging into babys delicate skin xxxx

I've gone mad on Girls dresses, after 3 boys I can't wait to put her in dresses. I have mainly bought them in the sales. I've also bought her little hair bands, to make her look girly. Even on 4th baby its still exciting and I don't want to be practical. I don't like slopping about in my PJ's so why should she. Sleepsuits for bed and dresses for daytime after her bath. With my boys explosive poo's only happened a handful of times and not till they were a bit older, I'm not going to keep her in Sleepsuits until she's out of nappies!

Go shopping, enjoy every minute, but as advised by others, try ebay or sales, clothes really do not last very long in the first few months.
