Baby name pronunciations

Rhys gets called "rice" all the freaking time :dohh:

Corey is very obvious but people still call him Kari. Very annoying. He's a boy for goodness sake!

Can't go wrong with Thomas and Sophie!

Phillipe I always said right in my head, but Alexandre I have been corrected on.

Rhys I would say as Reese, bet I have that wrong!

Does anyone's baby have a different pronunciation? My parents cannot get my kid's names right!!

They are
Alexandre (alex- ahnd) - the re are silent
Philippe (feel- eep) - not 'fill-ip'

i pronounced both your kids names right as i see you live in quebec and im 5 minutes away from gatineau xD

Oops. I would have pronounced both wrong. :) I'd have thought Phillipe = Fill-eep-ae
And Alexandre= Alexander.

I thought Rhys was a really common name too? It's pronounced the same as Reese. Is Rhys welsh spelling or something?

My 3rd is Caoilainn (kay-lin)
and my baby is Arya....I thought that would be simple but people call her all sorts! It should be R-E-Ah

Our DD's name is Selah, and most people don't say it correctly the first time lol.
Selah= Say-Lah ( like Leila or Layla) . Most people say "See-lah":shrug:

I've pronounced half these wrong in my head sorry! Names are hard though if you have never come across them, I suppose most people just say what they see.
love the name Rhys, it's on my list if I have another boy next time :-)

My mom is constantly mispronounces my one daughter's name. Her name is Sophia, but we call her Sophie with an acent on letter O. However, my mom puts an accent on IE, as in
So-phEE (French, I guess, as in Sophie Lauren). It annoys the hell out of me, I ended up crying over it as it was the hardest depiction ever to come up with her name.

My first two have pretty easy to pronounce names but my third is always mispronounced, especially by her teachers of all people. Her name is Rhiannon but is called Rhianna constantly... don't they see the "N" at the end? With my little boy i had someone completely disregard his proper spelling all together, she kept commenting on my fb "how's Brandon?" Huh where the heck do you get Brandon from? Its LANDON...Lol...Oh and don't get me started on my former married name it was "Both" pronounced exactly how its used in regular use (i.e. the both of us) and they kept saying booth, baath ( don't know how to sell that pronunciation but the as i guess would be ah... seriously?

Oh no! I must admit, I've mispronounced (in my head) a few of your babies names :dohh:

We thought about spelling our Little girls name, Ryleigh (because DH and I met in Raleigh, NC) but we decided to go with spelling her name Riley. We were scared that it being spelled the other way would lead to a lifetime of mispronunciations:wacko:

My daughters name is Sophia which I think is pretty clear, her anut called her Sophie when she came to visit, I'm like no there's an A on the end, not Sophie!! But the other way my mum sometomes pronounces it is like Sofia with a really hard F! Ist sounds more like soffier!!! Agggh drives me nuts, I didn't think we'd choosen a comlicated name!!!

Its the spelling that gets people with Niamh, If they see it written they have no idea how to say it and if they know her name it allways gets spelt wrong, quite a few people end up putting a p in there.

I have one dick of a nurse on NHS direct telling me i had spelt her name wrong, erm no you prick thats how its supposed to be spelt!

charlie15. i have exactly the same problem with my Sophia. frustrates the life out of me. i thought i had picked a nice simple elegant name that couldn't be mispronounced but how wrong was i lol.
