Baby scolded by boiling water. Please help.

Well DD had top part of biobrane removed as it was oozing too much (sulfide?) Not infection anyway-but biobrane wasn't doing its job there anymore. She had a bath by me with the nurse and then a normal dressing put on the non-biobraned burn. I just looked it up on Internet as there were white pearly patches where it was beefy red-but this is apparently normal and will most likely heal in 3 weeks. Hope that's right.*

It's the middle area they are concerned about but it continues to be a waiting game with some saying it won't need a graft by how it looks THAT day-each day it can show otherwise hence this wait being so very very hard.

Psbut for when she has healed I want to have ready the best creams/oils there are! I know some of you have mentioned some already, but can you say which are the best for scars as I can't get them all! But I suppose I can mix some? Ie Vitamin E with aloe vera and lavender...

Bio-oil is very good for burn wounds.

Sorry your Lois going through this :(

Bio oil isn't suitable for babies. It's for 2years plus.

When the skin is healed I would ask the consultant and nurses which to use ( they will have seen the results so would know what works the best) but I think vit E, coconut, pure jojoba.

My dad was sent home from the burns unit with huge tubs of e45 cream for his burns.

X

Thank you-the nurse today said she cannot recommend any apart from the Epaderm she's given me..as it's 'personal choice'

Ive used manuka honey umf 20+ for wound/burn healing and for scars. good luck!

I was scalded by hot water on my face (as an adult) it was similar to what you describe with your daughter and have zero scarring. I used prescription burn ointment (forgot the name sorry) I also used a product called healgel which helped immensely.

This has really good reviews! My oh said I should look for silicone based creams/gels...bit of a minefield-just want to get the best one so I can help her, it's the least my poor little girl deserves.

lavender oil

I've had a read and it seems to say to put this on burns?! I won't be putting on anything until DD's skin has healed..will lavender oil still work as well then?

Oh and yes I've looked up kelo-cote..it has mixed reviews-but is silicone based. Hmmmm

it will still help with the healing process as even when the surface is healed over the underneath tissue will still be repairing. can help reduce itchiness from healing and can help reduce scarring too. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
might relax lo too although from what you've said already she seems pretty much herself.
hope lo has a speedy recovery.

So I should wait until her skin has healed ie were told no grafting is needed? Then use it..atm its white in areas and open and very sore looking. Where the biobrane was removed from the top of her leg yesterday, she now is more uncomfortable. We have to bathe her daily from now.

Follow your instinct. If you feel something is not right, it probably isn't. I would ask her doctor.

I wanted to add that she may have scars but most of us have one. I have one on my knee where I fell on the concrete of a pool when I was really little (3 years old). It is thick and ugly. Then my neighbor got a long scar from breaking her leg (surgery) . I believe she was playing some sport.

I wouldn't put anything on it until it is dry, as in not oozing or moist anymore. That could potentially increase the risk of infection. Her skin will hopefully begin to heal from the inside out. Then you can try whatever you like to try and minimize any potential scarring.

I sincerely hope she is feeling better soon.

Yes it's definitely healing from the inside out (in that there are changes occuring) which is why there are no definitive answers yet as too early. Here is a pic today-the green bit by her knee was how the white part was yesterday before the biobrane was taken off-so I expect that to turn white too. If you know what the white means (from your experience-i know every burn is different) please say - im exhausted from this sitting on the fence.

It could be older dead skin cells being pushed outward by new skin growth from underneath. (This happens with all skin cells, but normally they are dry and flake off.) But since your lo's skin is constantly wet at the moment, it sticks and looks kind of like your fingertips after a long bath.

But it's impossible to be sure when we can't see it first hand.

Thank you Sheldonsmummy. Drs review tomorrow afternoon

This would be my thought too. Similar to how white your skin becomes with a bandaid on, especially if you've washed your hands with it on and it holds that moisture on your skin where the bandaid is.

Well the nurse has just removed the rest of the biobrane as it was oozing underneath. She said the middle part by the knee is very deep and it remains unknown if a graft will be needed. Medical review tomorrow at the Hospital. I'm devastated for my baby-im praying with my all she doesn't need a graft.

Your poor baby. I really hope that she doesn't need a graft.

I still can't wrap my head around how the water got there. Did your mum put the flask on her lap or was she holding it? Sorry, I know that your focus is to look after your daughter, but I just don't understand how it happened. Have things calmed down between you two or do you think it's irreparable?
