we just got home from our beach vacay yesterday. I was sick the entire trip. So I headed to urgent care b/c my OB is closed on saturdays. The dr said I have bronchitis and he mentioned that I have a pregnancy murmur when he listened to my heart. I've never heard of that before. I'm coughing like crazy and he acted really nervous about prescribing me any meds. He actually got his phone out to look up an antibiotic that I could take  He eventually gave me a z-Pack and told me to follow up w/ my OB on monday b/c of the possibility of it turning into pneumonia. He said that he didn't know of any cough suppressants I could take because none he knew of were safe during pregnancy. He asked me if I had any phenergan, and if so to take it at night b/c it can be used as a cough suppressant. I literally just got over the puking from this pregnancy and now all this crap! lol it's never ending. My kiddos have been sick for a solid month w/ either stomach viruses or some kind of cold or sinus infection!

Oh no you poor thing. Hope you feel better soon. I think I'd feel a bit wary of a doctors who had to look up antibiotics that can be taken in pregnancy :-/ hopefully he was just double checking. Definitely go see your doctor when you can

yeah I was a little taken back by him looking stuff up...but I know Zpacks are fine during pregnancy. I just was hoping for something for the cough.

Poor you. Have you tried sucking on spoonfuls of honey to help with the coughing. It helps with a tickly sore throat. Worth a try maybe.
Wouldn't worry too much about the doctor looking up the medication. I'd be more worried if he hadn't double checked.

yes! I have been doing the honey thing. I actually have the bottle and a spoon on my night stand ;) It's a nice temp relief! my coughing has not been nearly as bad today so I'm hoping I'll start getting over this soon. But I have been falling asleep all day long. My poor hubby has dealt with the boys all day and I can tell that his nerves are shot lol

Sorry about your cough...at least you're getting some abs exercise though! Sorry I don't mean to poke fun, just trying to see the silver lining. :hugs: Hopefully it passes soon.

Might be worth a phone call to your OB/midwife office, they can probably tell you over the phone if there is anything safe you can take that is over-the-counter. My dr. gave me a list of medications that were ok to use in pregnancy for cold symptoms "if clearly needed" and there were some cough medicines on there, depending on the trimester, but I'd definitely check with them before taking one. Putting honey in tea helps sometimes too, the steam loosens you up and the honey works just as well mixed in as by itself.
