I'm getting quite concerned about how my old piercing scar is holing up  The top one is ok but the bottom one is kind of worrying. Its starting to get a kind of welt on it, and its really itchy and sore. I've never heard of stretch marks actually being sore...

Has anyone else got one like this? My midwife didn't say anything about it but I'm worried it wont take much more growth, which is bad when I still have 8 weeks to go!

Oh Pixxie I am not sure. It doesn't sound good that it is sore.. get it checked out. My skin is pretty dark and my belly button hole has turned a dark colour and looks weird, but it doesn't hurt.
You're right : the top one looks fine, the bottom one looks a bit tender. Definitely check it out just to be sure :hugs:

Hey Pixxie,

Mine starting itching where I took it out but I haven't got any marks just yet. Yours looks pretty sore :( I suppose there is not much you can do except keep it clean and make sure you keep moisturising. I've been oiling away like some kind of possessed person!! Whenever I get the opportunity the bio oil is out, haha...

Have you got any other stretchmarks yet? I guess we're getting to that time when they start appearing.

mine are the same pixxie... sore nd horrible... i never realised they would stretch out like that!
jus keep moisturisin them... mine got quite bad nd my mw told me to put anti-septic on as well.
xx

They are the only ones I have, hopefully it will stay like that! lol

I've been oiling them twice a day which relieves the itching for a bit so must be doing it some good, I'm really scared that my skin will actually split though!

gemabee I didn't realise they would stretch like this either! If someone had told me I wouldn't have got them done! xx

i've still got my bottom one in nd all the skin is pullin nd stretchin around it!
its horrid!
but its not actually my belly button is the bit underneath (i call it my buddah belly piercin :haha:) nd it hurt so much gettin it done that i have point blank refused to take it out.
altho i've had stretch marks for over 10 years... i had a growth spurt at 13 nd have been succeptable ever since (even tho i was a 6/8 pre-pregnancy!)... my advice is cocoa butter nd bio oil... ooooh nd sunbeds in the summer. i am covered in stretch marks... but they're so faded (nd covered by a tan)... that only i know i have them.

I took them out 2 years before I got pregnant so I hate to think how they would have held up with the jewellery in! I'm pretty sure they would have been pushed out  xx

when i was pregnant with my 1st mine went like that i used to rub cream in to it every day and found that seemed to help abit xx

Pixie mine are the same very itchy and sore especially during a growth spurt.
There was one day i was convinced it was going to split and i went around all that day holding it as it was the only thing that stopped the stinging.

As the others said i just keep slapping the moisturisers on.

They look really sore hun - keep moisturisng for sure and perhaps ask the mw's opinion?

I took my belly bar out fairly early on around 12 weeks and it healed up pretty fast, I'd had it pierced just over 10 years so it was very tough by then. It's a bit red round the top where you can see where the holes used to be but thats about it xx

go docs maybe see if they have got a strong steriod cream to help with any soreness.

I've also got a belly button piercing, only one on the top side though. Although I do have stretch marks on my bum and thighs, I don't have any on my tummy (yet), but... the bit of skin where the piercing was done burns quite a bit and is stretched pink and shiny, feels like it wants to split! I think the piercing has negatively affected that specific bit of skin's ability to stretch, but I don't think any harm will come from it. Scratch away!

my scars have stretched and moved out but nothing like that, that looks painful! x

My laparoscopy scars are like your piercing scars Pixxie - do you remember the post I did a while ago saying it looked like there were cuts and I was worried my tummy would burst open? They do seem to have calmed a bit though...

Pixie my belly button piercing was the first stretch mark and its now the worst and yes mine are all very very sore

aww bless you that looks very sore! I have mine pierced top and bottom and they look nothing like that! I've still got my normal bar in the bottom with plenty of growing room and maternity bar in the top and I've not had any issues... I'm due 2 days after u you as well!
Have you tried contacting either your local piercing place or tattoo parlour? Just for some advice, when my bottom one was healing a long time ago I had a welt like thing pop out like that and when it eventually popped it was all weeping and pus like, nasty! Doesn't help that I'm unable to leave things alone though! lol. I would suggest speaking to them for some advice, blue banana specialise in piercings and I've had alot of mine done there in Plymouth and Bristol and they've always been very helpful, just to see what they suggest and I would try using salt water for cleaning, traditional but always massively helps with infections and stuff! Hope it gets better soon!

i thought i would share m bbutton streth marks - i only have the top one done but its very red and feel like the skin in very thin! - if someone had told me 15 years ago this is what happens i dont think i would have got it done!

i took my belly button piercing out a good year or so before i got pregnant and certainly in this last trimester its all of a sudden gone bright red! i was also a bit worried its a bit itchy not particularly sore but id say a little bit tender i didnt think anything would happen to it as there wasnt a bar in it but obviously the stretching has taken its toll :/ its not red at each hole like yours though its the bit in the middle lol! i just hope it goes back to normal after birth coz i was considering putting my bar back in if i lose enough weight but wont be if its been messed up! :(

Mines the same really sore and red, i just keep using antiseptic wipes on it and cream and it seems to be helping a bit

Well I'm actually a tattooist and piercer, so I know it's not the actual piercing that's causing a problem and I've never heard of them getting stretch marks like this before I got pregnant. They both healed up about 2 years ago so I didn't think I would have any problems, it just seams the scar tissue from them can't stretch at all so its making all the skin around it go nasty.

Thanks for your advice girls, seems like it's pretty normal. Will mention it at my next midwife appointment though to see if she can prescribe me some cream or something xxx
