Birth Control After Pregnancy

im gonna get the contraceptive impant in my arm works for about 3 years ...and the nurse is pretty much insisting on it hehe

I was on the pill when I got pregnant - I was religious about taking it so couldn't work it out. My gp realised that I had been prescribed a course of antibiotics around the same time I would have conceived and the doctor who had prescribed them failed to say they could counter act my pill. So after baby is born I will be getting the contraceptive implant in my arm :). Does anyone have a rough idea how long you have to wait after giving birth before you can get it? xxx

I would love an implant because there's nothing to worry about for 3 years. However I had one fitted last year and had to have it removed after 4 months because I didn't stop bleeding the whole time I had it =/ It ended up more hassle than it was worth. I'm thinking I may go on the pill (aslong as it's not Cerazette) as I took that after implant and that didn't go well with me either and I stopped taking it and ended up pregnant. I also took Dianette (for acne) before my implant for about 2 years but apparently it's not allowed to be used for a long time. It worked really well for me. So i'll have to see as I don't want to just use condoms. =/

Oh wow. Can't believe the doctor didn't mention that. When i've been to pick up antibiotics from chemist they've asked me if I was on the pill and pointed out to be careful! I'm not sure how long exactly after you give birth you have to wait. I think it's a few weeks (don't quote me) but usually you have to wait a few weeks for appointment. Mine was like 4 weeks. However becareful because as great as it sounds it really didn't work for me x

I know! By him missing out a couple of words he pretty much changed my whole life LOL! It wasn't my normal GP and he just seemed like he wanted to get me out the door asap really iykwim. I've heard some things like that before about the implant, i've also been told it makes you put on weight? I think I will probably go to my GP to see what my best option will be. I never had any problems with my pill before this (i took Yasmin) so I might just go back to that, depending on if i'm breast feeding or not xxx

I breastfeed so there's only certain types of birth control you can use while BFing, that won't affect your milk or affect your baby. At 6 weeks PP, I decided to get the depo provera shot, which you get every 3 months. I absolutely hated it. It made me really depressed for the few months I was on it and I just didn't like the feeling it made me have. Then I decided to switch to the mini-pill, which so far so good! I didn't have periods for a year because I was exclusively BFing, then when I stopped BFing during the day, my periods came back. They're quite normal now but just this last period was late, which made me have a pregnancy scare! But thankfully everything is OK. I don't personally like IUD's the thought of having something stuck up inside of me for 5 years makes me cringe.

Lol. Yes, he has! I'm sure it's for the better though :flower: I know exactly what you mean about being rushed out the door. I hate doctors for that exact reason. I've got an appointment next week and i'm already dreading it!! Erm, i'm not sure about the weight thing (I didn't really notice) i'm not exactly thin :haha: lol. But I noticed the pill did put a lot of weight on me originally. Oooo I didn't even think about breastfeeding and taking the pill. (I'm not 100% decided on what i'm gonna do yet ) I'm gonna have to ask my midwife about all the options. My Mum suggested getting a coil as they last for 5 years (I think it is) and my Mum said her periods stopped. She had it removed and got pregnant within a few months :) xx

I know you end up feeling like a burden for going to the doctors LOL! I know they are busy but that's what I love about my GP, she really takes her time no matter how busy she is :). LOL i don't mind putting on a little bit of weight and I suppose it works differently for everyone - Yasmin never put weight on me but when my mum etc used it, it put a little bit of weight on her - only on her boobs and her bum though so she didn't complain much :haha:. I only thought about it 10 minutes ago when I was reading through one of the leaflets that came with my pill and you aren't supposed to use Yasmin if your BF - I still don't know if I will BF or for how long though so we will wait and see! The coil sounds like a good idea and having no periods would we fab LOL - I hate them they're such an inconvenience sometimes! I'd be worried about the pain getting it fitted though :haha:. It's all so confusing! xxx

I know and without patients they wouldn't have a job :haha: My GP is always fully booked up but she's lovely. I got a suprise at my last appointment coz they had booked me with her and I didn't know.
Lol. I don't really mind the weight off the pill. I plan to become a gym freak anyways when I give birth (Plan being the word lol!) Coil does sound good with having no periods. I was naughty on the pill and didn't always has a stop gap inbetween new packs  It's supposed to not be that painful (not that i'd know lol) and only takes a few mins to fit so that's good :) xx

we uesed the pull out method for about two years and i popped up pregnant whoa suprise lol i know i dont want an iud or the implanon i was thinking bout the patch since i know i will forget pills

I read it was at least six weeks if you were BFing but not sure about how soon after if your not. I think after giving birth they usually suggest you don't have sex for six weeks anyways so I would guess that between the usual apppointment you go for after having the baby and sometime between when you start having sex again you could ask exactly when you could be put on something.

your due on my birthday :) its a good day lol

The only birth control I used before pregnancy was condoms, I've never been on the Pill or anything so I'm really unsure what to do after baby is born!

I'm forgetful so the Pill maybe isn't the best option for me! So maybe an implant or injections?Although a friend claims the implant made her put on loads of weight which I don't want when I'm trying to gain my pre-pregnancy body back.

All I do know though is that I'm definitely going to be going 'double-dutch' lol and using some form hormonal control AND condoms every time that we have sex. I really don't want to be risk getting pregnant again, especially now I know how easy it is! xx

I was on the pill last time, Microgynon. That didnt work so well :haha:
After this LO i'm not sure. Maybe the IUD? Who knows, we're not thinking that far ahead yet, haha.

I won't be going on anything. My OH and I will just use condoms until we decide to try for our last baby. After that, he's getting a vasectomy and then we won't have to worry about birth control at all anymore. :haha:

My body really doesn't seem to like any sort of hormonal birth control, so that really limits our options. We will probably be doing natural family planning, which will also help me figure out my cycles and what's wrong with them.

i want a boob job :haha: so DH says i can get one whenever i want if i get my tubes tied lol (he scared of gettin a vasectomy :haha:) but im waiting a while, cause we want one more after this baby, so we are using condoms until we get pregnant again :p which we decided that will happen when it happens (DH says he doesnt think it will happen very soon but i give it a year lol)

I can't offer too much personal advice, because the only things I've tried are the BCP and condoms. My aunt had an IUD, and it fused to her cervix and made her not be able to have more children... So I am scared off of IUDs. I just don't like the idea of something in me either. You also mentioned the depo shot. My best friend was on the shot for a while. She said she would get some spotting between periods, but that it wasn't bad at all-- she didn't have to try to remember to take a pill! Now, she has some insert that they put in your arm... it's weird. She had asked me to go with her to get it, but I couldn't with LO. So far she hasn't had any complaints on it!

The pill didn't sit well with me. I just don't respond well to chemical treatments, I guess. I tried three different brands of BCP before I just gave up on that method. DH and I decided to just use condoms after LO got here. That went well until about six weeks postpartum, a condom broke (and I cried for 45 minutes... lol). Now we're using Natural Family planning + the condoms.... So hopefully it'll work.

You could talk to your OB about birth control at your next appointment. I'm sure they won't mind, and it's never too early to start planning! :flower:

I am so unsure about this, I have never been on BCP and am very uncomfortable with any of it, including the shot, implant, coil, ect. We will probably just be using condoms/pull out and the rhythm method. We had to have help getting pg so I don't think it will happen again without help anyway, and would not be totally devastated if we were pg again after a while. So no birth control really for us, but I really would like to wait about 2 years before having another!

abstinence FOR ME AS IM SINGLE NOT WITH fob + 100% EFFECTIVE Otherwise condom contraceptive
