Birthday Cake - need a recipe

Hi all.

My Mum's birthday is mid December and she has asked me if I will bake her a cake.
Im after ideas and recipes

Now my Mum is an excellent home baker and her sponges are always beautifully light, airy and delicious - now since frankly I cant compete with a plain sponge of hers she has asked for something that isnt plain or victoria sponge.

I need help for recipes- cakes that might not be traditionally birthday cakes but will be nice and special enough to pass for a birthday cake.

Also I will be roughly 37 weeks pregnant at this point so cakes that arent too complicated please!!!!
