BLW - Baby led weaning support thread

 gave amelie a piece of cucumber and shes just holding it and as soon as it gets to her lips shes screws her face up.. dont think she likes it!

Hebe pulls a face at the first taste of EVERYTHING. At first I thought she didnt like it. Then I realised she always does it and it's some times the temperature she doesnt like :)

I have an amazing BLW book. I just finished it yesterday and it is so informative. It just makes so much sense. There is even a chapter on BFing and BLW.

Does anyone else feel like this is something amazing that they have discovered, and they want to share it with everyone else?

Yeah it just makes so much sense I dont know why everyone doesnt do it

Yes! I bang on about it to anyone that listens and they all think it sounds logical! Although one mother the other day, just couldn't get her head round giving an apple rather than apple puree!:dohh:

Which book is it? Is it the one by Gill Rapley?

Gill Rapley is the BLW guru! :D

I actually used a few purees to start with as I bottled it a bit. But I wouldnt bother with them if I had another. It's been so lovely watching her feed herself and this might sound silly but when I see her chew stuff, it melts my heart! I just think 'oh you clever little sausage!'

I know - I thought this today, when he actually swallowed the entire apricot! Nearly had a fit, then realised he was just being my clever little boy!
I nearly bottled it too and gave purees, but I didn't and am now glad I didn't. If he's hungry, he eats tonnes, if not, he just plays with it. I think it's all about having confidence in them and knowing that they know best! It makes it so much more difficult when all my friends are doing the puree route!

it's definately a confidence thing Kat and when everyone else around you is doing purees its harder. My sister was  when she saw my giving her certain stuff but now she's totally into it even though chocking is her 'thing'.

so I have been doing this a little with Fred, but im still scared he will choke and I always end up scraping his mouth out of any food! what did you start on giving them at first? I just don't know whats suitable?!

have done things like banana, avocado, breadstick, but i get scared!! he has mainly sucked on these and swallowed a little but not much x

They sound like good starters hun. It is a bit scary at first but once you've seen them gag and bring stuff up easily a few times, it's much less nerve racking.

Hebe liked and still likes steamed pear or apple. Just enough to take the hardness out of it. Cut into baton shapes and off you go! Same with carrot, parsnip, sweet potatoe etc etc.

I think bread and bread sticks are way worse for hiding in the roof of their mouths. fruit and veg slide down easy - not claggy and pastey like bready stuff :D
