Hiya, im new on here!
Im 30 weeks pregnant and just trying to figure out ff.
I know that when making a bottle i should add the formula to hot water so its sterile ect...and then if i want to put it in the fridge to rapid cool it first. But my question is: If my LO will take room temp milk can i just boil the water, add the formula then leave it on the side till its the right temp? Rather then warming slightly getting it cold out the fridge?
It seems like this would be the quicker thing to do, and also easier for out and about.
And if i can do this, how long can i leave it out on the side for??
Thanks guys xxx

Sorry just had another thought...
When im out and about can i just make the water up in the bottle and take the formula in a dispenser? Just add when needed.

Hey sorry I was a bit confused around your first question (sorry I'm blonde) but as for the second one - yes you can add formula to water when your out. Since Izzy was born I never made up feeds on demand I use to make bottles up and stick in back of fridge and just heat when needed - now I just use cartons as Izzy likes room temp milk - but this can get expensive depends on how many feeds LO is having - could be an idea for when bubba a bit older. x

It probably sounds a bit confusing to be fair lol baby brain when i was writing it
Basically i just want to know if its safe to not put it in the fridge? If i can just leave the bottle on the side so its at room temp when LO wants it, instead of having to wait around for it to heat up.
And then if it is safe to do this...how long can i leave it on the side before it should be used?

Hope thats explained better  haha

No, they shouldnt just be left on the side, otherwise they would have to be used within about 2hours. Putting them in the fridge allows you to use them within 24hours. If you wanna be really naughty, you can easily and quickly heat them in the microwave when needed. Just make sure you give them a good shake. It only takes 20-40seconds then depending on the watt. Just dont put the teat in! X

You can put the boiled water in the bottles and leave them on the side hun. Then add the milk powder at each feed. I do that and its what lots of the mums on here do and have never had any problems :)

okay i have a daughter who is 5 and a half when she was born you would use cooled boiled water and the formula shake the bottle so all powder is dissolved and put them in the fridge all the feeds for the next 24 hours sorted and when needed take them out and heat them up (i also worked in a nursery before falling pregnant and this is how we made up feeds and those were the correct guidelines)

when i had my youngest daughter who is now 16 months that had all changed we were advised to boil the water leave for a couple of mins and make up the feed then cool it down and use straight away. you shouldnt leave them on the side or put them in the fridge and not boil water and add powder later they all defeat the purpose of making feeds with boiling water in the first place (this was the advice we were given)

We thought this would be a right pain in the backside but it wasnt we used the ready made carton milk when she was really small occasionally if she couldnt wait for the powdered formula feed to be made up which was rare and soon as they get older you know when your babies feed is due so you can prepare it before they start to scream the place down as for going out we always used the cartons.

adding to that neither of my girls had any problems with anything as regards to diffrent methods to making up their feeds and in a few years time it will probably change again lol x x x

i make up the feeds as per the box instructions ( boils kettle, leave 30 min, make up feeds) I make up the next 3 feeds, cool them and then put them in the fridge and warm when needed.
so far so good, olly is 8 weeks old!

For the night feed I make 2-3 in advance. For a 5oz bottle I fill it with 3oz of boiling water and leave on the side. Then when LO is ready, I fill up the bottle to 5oz (so basically add an additional 2oz) with boiling water so the milk is perfect temp. LO prefers warm milk. I then add the powder and shake! To make it even easier, I have a flask of hot water next to me so there is no need to go to the kitchen, boil the kettle etc.... I used to make bottles in advance, with the powder and leave in the back of the fridge. I would then warm them up but its so much easier the new way

When going out I tend to fill two bottles with boiling water, to the 5oz level and then put in an insulated bag. I would then add the powder as and when using a powder dispenser. Sometimes the water will be quite cool by the time its used but its never caused any problems.

Thanks for the replies girls...it sounds like there is alot of contradicting advice when it comes to the ''correct'' way to make up a feed. Some say make it and use straight away, others say you can leave it out or in the fridge etc...some people say you dont even need to use boiled water

Just enough to confuse some1 like me haha...
I think ill just be going with what i think is best. Ill do the whole pre-prepare and put in the fridge for a while whilst shes tiny. If she prefers room temp feeds then ill have to work that one out, but i guess its just to do what feels right and not to get obsessed with rules and guidelines.

Thanks for your input tho girls, it gave me a perspective on what other mummys do and i think so far everyones advice is just what i needed
