breast is no longer best...new research

No one in their right mind would try and argue that BM isn't as good as formula nutritionally. I accept there is other factors when it comes to actually breastfeeding/expressing but actual breast milk IS superior to formula and there's no point in trying to argue that it's not.. it's a fact.

The reason FF babies go longer between feeds is because FF is harder to digest than BM so it's not really a good thing :\ It's like being pregnant and eating crap, it doesn't really harm the baby unless you're starving yourself and if anything, the mother will harm HERSELF, not the baby. Same goes for BF. Aslong as you're getting enough calories, it doesn't make a great difference what you actually eat.

Also, I find the phrase 'breast police' very offensive. There's been arguements about it before and I'm sure one of the mods said it wasn't to be used.

so FF isnt normal??

its normal in modern times but its not normal from a how we are made to work point of view.....we were made with breasts to breastfeed.

I HATE reading that. Just because we have breasts does not mean its natural to everyone. Nature is flawed, just like every human being and sometimes physically or emotionally breastfeeding just isn't "natural" to some people.

I dont like reading people say they cant understand why people dont try and bf.... like its none of your damn business! Some people just arn't comfortable with it and there is no need to make them feel guilty.

before the 1920s there was no formula you either breastfed your babies(what your breasts are designed to do) a family member did it for you or your baby died. i totally understand that its not for everyone. i didnt have an easy time of it at all. in fact i used to sit watching my baby sleeping in dread that she would wake and need feeding because it hurt so much. it was not natural for me at first at all but i delt with it and carried on as if formula wasnt an option. we as women are designed to give birth and breastfeed. its natural and normal. im not putting anyone on a guilt trip... if you look at science its what we are made to do....

nothing wrong with my body the first time 4 hr labour start to finish
2nd labour i was minutes from losing my son, who was ripped from me in a crash section. so whats wrong with the design of my body nothing natural or normal about that FACT
i think thats a very emotive thing to say if i'm honest,

I agree with your post 100% hun, i dont think there is a NORMAL. I was 2 weeks late with summer, given 2 pessaries, dilated to 1cm then they managed (only just!) to break my waters which is horrible, anyone who knows that feeling will totally understand and that still didnt do anything, i was contracting but no dilation so i ended up with a c section because Summers heart rate was dropping with each contraction. I also couldnt breast feed, i tried, probably not for as long as others and i may be frowned on for not trying very long but i was satisfied that i'd tried and managed to exclusively feed Summer breast milk for 4 days. So in summary i dont think its very nice to say that Breast feeding and giving birth is normal because some people just cant do either.. Thats the way it is.

Sounds exactley just like Ellis's birth:hugs:

Um, giving birth is 'normal' for our bodies. It's what we're designed to do. Normal is like the majority. The majority of people do give birth vaginally with no real issues. It doesn't make the people who don't/can't horrible or wrong though

Kala you have misunderstood me. I am not saying there is anything wrong with FF if that is best for you and your baby. The point is that breast milk contains all the nutrients for a baby which are 100% compatible. Formula is a substitute. I am not saying it is wrong or bad for your baby.

xx

It only contains all the nutrients if the mother is eating them herself. Some said (i think) that its mostly young lower class mums who dont even think about BF but alot probably couldnt afford the best most nutritious food so there baby wouldt get much from BF

My thoughts exactly, i was telling my partner about this yesterday and we both agreed breastfeeding is only good if you live a nice pure and healthy lifestyle. At least with FF you know your baby is getting exactly what they need no matter if you're having a 'junk food' day (like i'm sure we all like to every now and then!!) and also with FF you can see what they drink and know exactly what they have. Also, i may be wrong but FF babies go longer between feeds than BF babies :-)

I disagree with this pure and healthy lifestyle malarkey. I didn't and Ellis thrived! Also, FF babies go longer because FF is harder for them to digest and for me to FF just so I could get him to go longer was selfish on my part.

I think you misunderstand my comment on the time between feeds on FF babies... I do not FF my baby because i want her to go longer between feeds. IF i could BF and felt comfortable with it then i would have done it.

Ok those who have no need to use this section please leave NOW ...thats a handful on page 20 alone.

The sections were seperated to avoid comments like I unsupport your choice and the formula police and in general swearing AT each other over these stupid 'debates'.

Its not normal for my body!!! lol. i always joked that mine and my mother's body doesnt know how to labour!!! My mum had the same labour as me! No dilation and ended in c section so we're both not normal in that area..

Yer and page 20 is enough alone to stop it there. Once that starts happening thats the end of letting it run its course. Some just can't help themselves getting a righteous way dig in or start cursing each other down.

I'll PM you my response Kayleigh.

I agree what a shame it was turned sour by one post.

It's a shame it always ends like this! Why can't there be a healthy debate without people swearing at each other.

I was actually enjoying reading everyones views on the topic.... and tbh I think most people were being very supportive to each others choices. Just a few people like always get on their high horse and for unknown reasons twist someone elses comment to be insultive and get cross!

*sighs*

I was enjoying a good healthy debate :-) It was refreshing to see one not going nasty.. but then it did turn nasty, always gonna happen i guess with the amount of people on here :-) x

'breastpolice' was actually used first.

Yer well now debating why it turned sour isn't going to help either.

Everyone can be guilty of misunderstandings but as you say theres always a few who have to show they are unapproving to a choice and then to top it off people have to swear at each other which is my main reason for jumping in on this discussion - Things like "the BF or FF police" isn't a statement we let slide either (if used in a debate and spotted).

Used first used second! Over 10 thousand posts a day if it used then report it. No need now ...its really not about "but she did it first" its about people now cursing at each other ...it's not right.

Kayleigh happens with the smallest amount of people! Its the cursing at each other that I draw a line at.

i only showed unapproving to the statement that breast milk is not as good as formula milk. its not. and i dont support that it is. i didnt say i dont support ff.

Think thats fair wobbles... swearing at people is not neccessary at any time!

I too agree with Wobbles. A few posts were waaay too aggressive :(

In reply to milkmachine; I'm looking at more than one person here you know that right? As a whole its looking unsupportive and misunderstanding are going to turn the thread sour just like it has on one page alone IF you let it. Thats where it needs to stop.

.........

If we can just stop swearing AT each other and the extreme BF vs FF (avoidable comments that is based on the discussion topic) then yer carry on ...

Yeh the swearing was what turned it in my opinion. We dont need to debate on who/what made this a bad debate though :-) need to just draw a line and lay it to rest :-)
