Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Sorry to hear about Noah, Maffie. I hope he settled and you all managed to get some sleep.

Kte - I will go and and have a look at your thread - I have sympathy as my body is still putting up with iron supplements which do not help things in that department.

Well Earl was his usual self last night. I gave him a top and tail at 8.30 and he was asleep once again by 9.30  (I hesitate to say that we may have a routine going lol) then woke once at 1am to feed then didn't wake again til 5.30 (again alarm went off at 5am). He's back to sleep now as I normally try to get a few cat naps in between now and 9am but I'm not as sleepy as normal - maybe I'm getting used to the deprivation? lol

I hope all of us are doing well. I'm counting the days until Monday night as that is my next night off the feeds - bonus of bottle feeding, I can give Earl to hubby for the night lol. He was very fractious yesterday from 7-8.30 and hubby was too busy dealing with his home-brew. It was a long day but hubby has promised to cook tea tonight! :happydance:

Anyway, I'm off to nap in front of the telly for an hour or so. I'll be on later so I send everyone hugs! xx :hugs:

well noah fed from 3.20 to 3.55 and didnt settle so at 4.55 i fed him again and just 10 minutes on the boob got him off to sleep. so managed 2.5 hours minus oh's alarm going off :dohh:

I am so lucky that oh took noah in between each feed from 9pm until the 3am feed so i could sleep. not sure whats happened to noahs sleep overnight.

must get him bathed this morning.

Morning girls. I feel bloody brilliant this morning. My lovely mummy took James for the night last night so I slept from midnight to 9am with just 1 quick wake up for a pee at 5.30! It was very odd not having him there and as soon as I heard mum getting up at 9am I was out of bed and downstairs like a shot lol where he is still sound asleep! Aparantly he fed at 3am and then slept til 7.30am. I'm now feeling much better about going to the funeral today and a little more able to cope. I'm dreading the actual arriving because its where my grandad was cremated in February so its still a little raw.

Ok I'm going to state that Earl is just having one big long growth spurt that has been going on since birth! lol

He ate at 6am, 8.30 and I think he's going to need feeding again in about half an hour as he's stirring (finally got him to go down 20 minutes ago after water and 'The Twist' by chubby chequer! lol) so will be awake again in about 30 minutes. He also wants his dummy all the time so wants to suck constantly. I'm going to take advantage of this nxt half an hour and have some breakfast.

Maffie - Glad that you got him settled. Earl did that to me a couple of nights ago and I get up every night feed expecting the same thing! It usually takes me a good 40 minutes to get him back to sleep after a feed aswell as he rarely falls asleep on the bottle (too much of a gannet! lol) Hugs and try to get some rest xx

I'm up as Noah is inconsolable tonight :(

Hugs, Maffie. We've been there so know how you're feeling. Trust me when I say it gets better. I posted some terribly miserable posts not so many weeks ago, and looking back I find it hard to believe I felt like that. Now we've hit the 5week mark, I suddenly feel like we've turned some corners. It's not just that Monty's colic is getting better - I think it's also that OH and I are more used to being parents and we're starting to get on with it all so much better.

If it's any consolation, I was at a mums' group yesterday where one of the girls described her colicky, windy baby and how she spent a fortune on diesel because the only thing that would send her baby to sleep at night for the first two months was driving her around the Peak District. That made me realise that actually Monty was a breeze in comparison!

Big hugs to you, and hope it all gets better soon xx

LK, I am sorry to hear you're having to attend a funeral at a time when you are trying to enjoy this special time with baby James. I hope it goes as well as can be expected. Hugs to you xx

I am feeling quite alert this morning I think my body is getting used to less sleep. Noah loved his bath, what age can we start taking babies swimming? He loves the water so I think it's something i'd like to get into our routine even if its only once or twice a month.

I'm thinking of starting to express some milk to store but was unsure when to start doing t and whether I could feed Noah one boob and express the other so I have some milk ready for him if i'm unwell. I get such bad migraines I can imagine pumping would be easier than feeding Noah in hose circumstances. Is anyone else expressing?

LK big :hugs: for today

Colsy glad to hear Monty s doing better. I cant complain really as I can count Noah's bad nights on one hand. He is generally a good baby I think it had got too warm in the house yesterday and he hates being too warm. He throws all his covers off, he reminds me of me

Even on his bad nights by 3am he normally settles so was hard work him being awake from 3-5 last night, it's normally is guaranteed sleep time.

Have posted here https://www.babyandbump.com/breastfeeding/225239-green-poo.html#post3615063 re Monty's green poo ... any thoughts?

Have also posted re washing reusable nappies. https://www.babyandbump.com/natural-parenting/225243-washing-nappies.html#post3615092 Your opinions are sought :)

Colsy - so glad to hear that Monty is getting better and that you're ok.

Maffie - I think I too am getting used to the lack of sleep. Hubby has agreed to do the night feeds 2 nights a week before his days off and he's 'preparing' me to get up just in case he sleeps through Earl's monitor.....he manages to do it every other night so I'm worried he actually will. lol - hard life for some eh? lol

Earl is finally asleep - he's been awake pretty much non-stop apart from the odd 10 minutes sine 5.30!! Granted I'm typing this one handed but still.....peace in our house!!

Quickie question.....can you get sleepers without feet? Earl is growing out of his 0-3 months because of his long legs and I would rather not butcher perfectly good baby-gro's ( that I plan to recycle with baby number 2 lol).

Thanks everyone....lunchtime me-thinks!! I'm off to go and train for the bomb squad aka put Earl down while asleep! :dohh:

Yep, we've got some baby nighties and also quite a few babygrows without feet. xx

OOh OOh - where from? how much? so many questions!! lol

maffie, i've been expressing since harry was 2 week's, mainly so i can get a rest when oh is on lates (8am-8pm) 3 days a week. i only express about 4oz each time, then freeze them in re-usable sterilizable pots. i defrost them in a pot of warm water, which does take a while, then oh feeds him, while i go have a nap, or a bath... otherwisen i feel like i get baby overload & oh has very little time to bond with him on those days...
harry sometimes refuses the ebm bottle tho, as he wants to comfort suck from me instead, but either way, i dont mind. :)
pumping is a bit boring btw, n finding the time to do it sometimes is a pain too :dohh: i honestly have no idea how ppl can pump exclusively; it'd drive me crazy, lol.

My boob only gave me 2 oz, Noah is feeding every 2 hours at the moment so im expecting my milk output to increase soon. I dont want to express then having nothing left for Noah so when is best to express?

Hiya girls

Sorry i have been awol but i have needed some time to digest Ethan's diagnosis... I was so low after we found out but now we are fighting fit and ready to face it :)

Sienna just had her 6 week HV check and she is all fab,,... she now weighs in at 10lb 4oz and is 54cm long :cloud9: she is smiling like a loony and is so alert.... She has started interacting with toys too which is very sweet... She currently loves a giant dragon! she flirts with him all the time with smiles and coo's!

Whilst the HV was here i filled in the PND questionnare(sp?) and scored 7 out of 30 :happydance: which means i am all clear.... Its such a relief as i have suffered with PND with both the other kids.

Anyhooo enough about me... i hope you are all ok, i would read back through but as you will all appreciate i dont have the time

Huge :hugs: to you all xxx

leah, so glad everything's ok :)

maffie; they say it's best to express first thing in the morning... i personally do it whenever i feel engorged, whichj is usually around lunch time, and at about 2am. apparently you're meant to start with the boob they last fed off. i also found i can get loads when i'm in the bath, lol.
at first, i was lucky to get even an ounce, but gradually, i've been getting more. i've never been able to get more than 3-4oz tho... some can get that just off one boob, lol. i only use a manual TT one though...

edit; i read\somewhere it takes about 2hrs for your boobs to re-fill, so to speak, and that also, how much you pump bears no relation to jhow much milk you produce n how much is left in there for your lo. if you can squeeze your nipple n still get stuff out, then you're fine n not empty.

Thanks flora I got 2 oz off a boob an hour after Noah had finished on it. I'm using an avent manual pump and must say the milk comes out fast. I'll keep on with it so I can build it up. My other boob leaks loads when feeding so I have some shields designed to save leakage.

Leah :hugs: glad you are coming to terms with Ethan's diagnosis and it sounds like Sienna is doing great.

Are we meant to do a questionnaire on PND my HV just asked me if I feel down I said no and that was it. Although at 2 in the morning I might of said yes!
