Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

I'm back ladies. Went ok. Had it without sedation cos they said I wouldn't be able to look after James for 24 hours. So was quite painful but worth it cos I'm now sat feeding James for the first time in over 24 hours :)

Here is the picture!!

Btw - Kaites.....so I should expect Earl to be 15lb by Christmas then! lol  We weighed him at home last week and he was showing at 12lb 7oz at 5 weeks 2 days! I shall be weighing him on Wednesday again and then we have our 6 weeks check next week so we will see what the Dr has to say about him! lol

Aww cute pic of Earl! And yes, if he continues at the same rate, he'll definitely be wearing those 6-9 month clothes at Christmas! I did laundry yesterday and had to put away another couple of 3-6 mth sleepers :( We had so many in that size since we thought she would have reached a plateau by then but she's just kept on growing. When the doctor plotted her weight, it looked like an exponential curve :dohh:- I'm really hoping she slows down a bit! You are right about all the traditional names. I like that the names actually have a meaning. Another reason I liked the name Emma is that it is easy to spell- the teacher in me coming out I suppose  Seems like surnames have become really popular for boys too- I find it a bit weird when the surname doesn't belong to anyone in the family though. Oh well, to each his own. I hope you are feeling better quickly!

Maffie- I hope you and Noah are feeling better. That can't be fun trying to care for Earl when you are feeling sick also. :hugs: So far Emma is just congested and only coughs occasionally- she seems to be fighting it off. I think she probably had a sore throat on Sunday and that was what all the fussing was about.

kte- glad to hear I'm not the only one sporting baby sick :) Seems like I finally get dressed and within 10 minutes I'm cleaning off spit up. I'm glad our little ones were born in the fall though- coats are good for covering up the baby sick so we can actually make it out the door occasionally :)

eswift- hope the job interview goes well for your OH

littlekitten- glad to hear you're able to enjoy some time with James- sounds like you had a rough couple days!

baby.love- hope labour was quick for your sister! Congrats on becoming an aunt- that's cool that Sienna will have a cousin close to her in age.

colsy- hope you had a better night with Monty. I hope the colic starts to improve for you soon.

Hope everyone is having a good day- we are in the midst of our first snow storm of the season. They are predicting 20-30 cm and the wind is pretty crazy outside so we are having a quiet day inside (except for a bit of shovelling of the driveway later- yuck!). Gotta say it's nice not having to commute to work in this  Emma is asleep in the Moby wrap so I'm able to type with 2 hands- funny the things I took for granted before she arrived, lol. Time to grab another cup of coffee before Emma wakes...

Oh No!! I'd best go and buy some 6-9's!! Or should I chance it that he wont grow THAT much in 23 days.....put that way I think I'd better get some emergency supplies in! lol

I got everything up to 3-6 thinking that he would grow out of them well after christmas and we'd have plenty of time to go and shop in the sales for 6-9 months plus...... how wrong was I?! lol Also, why do people buy proper clothes for them? I really need vests and grows, not pairs of jeans! lol :dohh: Oh well...what's that they say about gift horses?

We've just been on a lovely walk and I have a question.....

Baby carriers - we have a Mothercare 3 position carrier and because I got it 2nd hand I don't have the instructions. When can you put them in forward? Do they have to be able to see over, or is it a specific age? I'm not planning on putting him in it that way anytime soon....he's at eye level with the back at the moment so some way off....but just for reference.

Also, baby door bouncers....when can they go in? Again, no instruction manual and I can't find any instructions for them. It's just so I know

Thanks girls xx

To those of you who live with their OH: since having baby, what's the longest any of you have gone with OH and no "replacement OH" (e.g. mum, friend) not being around? How many of you have done overnight with no OH/replacement OH? I am really really nervous of the day when this applies to me. I am sure at some point in my life I will have to accept that I have to look after my baby at night alone sometimes!

We haven't been to doc with Monty, but he still isn't quite right. He's sleeping loads, and then when he feeds he feeds really nicely to start with but comes off a lot sooner than usual. His fontanelle isn't sunken, so we're not worried about dehydration yet. I guess he's just a bit under the weather.

Well my cold is still here, im feeling more tired than normal. Noah has upped is feeding too so not sure if its a growth spurt or linked to my cold

LK glad it all went ok for you, enjoy your times with James :hugs:

Aimee I found buying a bit in each age worked for us. I have clothes right upto 12 months my onlt criteria was if it was super reduced I bought it. I made sure it would suit for the seasons but other than that tried to stock up. Noah is still in newborn and nearly 7 weeks, although they are looking short in the leg in many brands and 0-3 are looking a better fit. I think tis week we will be out of all but the boots newborns. Must go buy some 0-3 vests as I only have a few.

Kaites im so jealous of the snow, I love places that have proper distinct seasons, winter is my favourite season and i'll brave the cold and winds for some good snow.

Well i'd better get posting in the sell/swap/buy thread as im having a clearout

Colsy, I'm sorry to hear about the bad times Monty is having; Harry has been the same way for a few days now with regards to screaming when he poos- he seems to be in pain from poo-ing & farting, which have never been a problem for him before. He is also point blank refusing to slee[ during the day & getting himself way over-tired & worked up about it, but no matter what I do, I just cant get him to sleep, no matter how much I feed him, wind him, make him comfy etc... It's knackering! But then, he's also slept throuigh the night (about 10/11pm-6/7am!) for the past 5 nights, so I feel like I shouldnt complain, lol.Still, I hate seeing him writhing & so upset during the day... Only way I can get him to have a nap is by walking round the habour for an hour or so, but within minutes of getting back, he's wide awake & crying again. I too am thinking of taking him to the drs if he keeps it up, because I dont know what I'm doing wrong...
As for being completely on my own with Harry- I did 4 days without OH or anyone, when he had to work away when Harry was 2 weeks old- it was really weird- I didnt wash or get dressed or do any housework- I was terrified & paranoid, lol, and barely slept a wink the whole time coz I was conviced somethin was gonna happen to him & I'd be stuck on my own without a car & no one around to help us. Totally OTT, and I know I'd be a million times better now, but yeah, it was hard at the time!

LK- great pics of James- what a cutie! :) How you feeling since the hospital thingy? (I cant spell the 'oscopy' word, hehe)

Kte- when's Chloe's christening? I was hoping for Harry's to be in feb, but we just arent gonna have time to fit it in, which I'm a bit miffed about... so it looks like May 1/2 term now instead, which seems like a lifetime away!

Aimee- I wanna steal Earl! He is just adorable!!!!

Kaites- wow, Emma's growing great! I love those comparison piccies in the BFing forum of her- it shows what a great job you're doing :) Harry's getting a double chin now & his thighs are starting to chunk up & finally, he appears to be growing out of some of his newborn/first size clothing; I cant wait to put him in all the awesome clothes people have bought him in the bigger sizes, and also to ebay off all the teeny clothes to make some more space in his drawers again.

Leah- welcome back hun. Has your sister had her bubba yet? I saw on Facebook it's been over 35hours now. Poor lady!!! Hope all is going well for her. Happy belated birthday to your Ethan too. Did he get some cool pressies? How's goregous Sienna doing?

Chaos- how are the new nappies working out for you?

Maffie- how much did you pay for your avent electric pump? How's lil Noah doing? Are you feeling any better yet?

Anyways... while Harry isnt screaming, and instead is attatched to me in the form of a carrier, lol, I better get myself some dinner as OH is on a late again.
Oooh, meant to say as well, we got a date for the house completion- 22nd Dec! So we will be in before xmas technically, but probably wont actually move in until the new year so we can get painted & stuff without Harry being exposed to any fumes or anything. i'm so excited though- Can't wait to have our own house rather than renting this flat; plus it appears we'll go down a council tax band too, so that'll save us about £20 a month, which is a bonus, lol. :)

right, have a good night people. Sorry if I missed anyone out; brain has turned to mush these days... :dohh:

i think they have to be able to hold they're heads up steady, thats what our baby carrier box says and i googled door bouncers the other day which said the same.

ooo Tristan had his jabs yesturday, lets just sau he wasnt a very happy bunny! Has anyone elses los had theres yet? xx

Maffie - I would have loved to have hit the sale rails but he was a yellow bump and I didn't want to end up with a beige baby for the first year! lol - I've been trawling charity shops since he was born and I've got a few nice things but you can't rely on it so I've decided to head to ASDA to buy some cut price 6-9's to tide us over until the sales are on in January. I will from now on though be buying whatever I find that's a bargain in any size. I've just got to remember what season we will be in as I have a couple of items that Earl hasn't worn becuase I bought them in summer! Whoops! :dohh: Still they're all packed away ready for the next baby! (goodness that's forward planning!)

Colsy - I have spent entire days alone but I'm yet to do a night alone. Hubby works shifts - so he's either out of the house 6-3 or 12-9 and one Sunday in three he's our from 8.30-7.30 which is one heck of a long day with a 6 week old, especially when you consider he wakes up at 8 and goes to bed at 7 so I may as well be a single parent on those days!! We don't really spend nights apart and I can't see him going away any time soon. I think I could probably handle it but I would certainly miss the 'grown-up' interaction that he provides......at the moment I talk to Earl about current events and I don't think he really understands the true scale of the Copenhagen summit! lol

Flora - Would you like him? lol - I'm only kidding. He is a handsome little boy - sometimes he's not quite that photogenic (bit like his mummy really!) but I absolutely adore that picture and I'm off to buy a photo frame especially for it on Friday...along with a lot of other things!

Thanks jo_79 - I was thinking that would probably be the case but I would hate to put him into either before he was ready by accident. He's already holding his head up so well but I think it will be a good number of months before he's ready to see the world in a forward facing carrier (That's if I'm strong enough to carry him by then!!)

Can you tell Earl has gone to bed!! lol....I'd best get going on tea actually, hubby has put in an order for lasagne and it has to be in the oven by the time he gets in or I'm in trouble......can I make lasagne from scratch in 1 hour?! The challenge is on!!

Have a good night girls. I hope we all have reasonable nights - I could really do without another night like last night if I'm honest.....Earl really scared the living daylights out of me, not to mention my lack of sleep! Be on tomorrow x

Well im being good and clearing out my maternity clothes which are are oppps. I should of sent stuff back that was too buig but never got round to it.

Aimee I must admit I dont think it matters if Noah had been a boy or girl ive got so many things in bright colours they would of suited either. I so didnt want to buy just blue some of my fave babygros are red green and orange.

Evenin' girls,

Well I've had a head cold kinda thing for the last couple days. My first in 2 years!
The hearing went well, the creditors have 60 days to challenge it and if not we'll be all set and finished. I can't tell you what a relief it is, we were truly drowning and to have this release is so nice.

Autumn slept from 930pm to 7am this morning. Can you even fricking believe that?! I was awake at 5 wondering what was going on. We had a thunder storm last night and not even that woke her up!! As a result she's A LOT more awake in the day. We finally got out of bed at 9am and then she took a 45 minute nap at about 130pm and a 20 minute nap about 5pm and then went to bed at 830pm. She's also going between 4 and 5 hours between feeds now. I am just in awe of how quick she's changing and growing. Every day a new thing happens. Today she laughed out loud for the first time because her feet were being tickled.
Yesterday she picked her dummy up in her left had, swapped it to her right and then tried to suck on it, then later in the day she was sitting in her boppy on the sofa, she grabbed my fingers and tried to pull her self up!! She's gonna be driving a car by Friday at this rate!!

Maffie ~ Hope you're feeling better.

Kaites ~ Send some snow down to NC!! The States above and below us got it this week, it always seems to go around us :( Hopefully they will have it up the mountains in a few weeks when we go up there.

Aimee ~ What kind of carrier do you mean? If it's a car seat carrier, Over here they say keep them rear facing up to one year. They actually just started recommending up to 2 years now. My carrier is made for babies up to 22 lbs then we have to go up a size .. that will still be rear facing.
If you mean the baby carrier that you wear that you put the baby in .. Autumn has been facing me up until today, Now she can hold her head up by her self for long periods of time, I put her in it facing out, she thought it was the best thing since sliced bread! You should be able to google for the carrier manual. Its what I did with ours when I chucked it away by mistake. Just google "brand name carrier manual" obviously swapping brand name with what ever it's called and it should come up :)
Re door bouncers, I'm planning on getting one in the next few weeks and she'll be in it then, she loves to push with her legs. She has a Jumparoo but is still about 1/4 inch off the floor lol.

Colsy ~ My OH went back to work 1 week after she was born so I've been my my self during the days practically from the start. You're gonna be fine :)

Flora ~ New nappies are working well, just as good as Huggies and half the price!! Just the way I like it lol.

Bana ~ Autumn had her jabs last week. It didn't seem to phase her. I was told to look out for a slight fever and fussiness tho, so that seems normal. Hope Tristan feels better soon.

Ok I'm going to catch up on some recorded TV, have a great night girls.

Morning all, well boobs were sore this morning so got a bottle of EBM out of the fridge and the greedy little man guzzled 4 oz so fast he projectiled at least 2/3rds of it all over the sofa and me, so had to get another bottle for him, he drank that one slower

So tired now but need to express the boobs.....

Colsy I do a few nights alone, have 2 next week as OH does work through the night when they have a big release to do at work so I have been known to spend from one morning alone until the following morning. OH also has his Christmas party next week so I have Tuesday and Wednesday night alone. To be honest I used to find it hard to sleep ina house on my own but now I have Noah I do tend to fall asleep when he sleeps.

Morning All...

I'm shattered! CC woke 5 times last night and is zzzing away now... Her whole evening time was disrupted, we went to a carol concert it was lovely... Kinda feels more like Christmas now...

OH has been offered the job, he's happier (back to what he knows) Down side is going from weekly wages to monthly wages, LOL guess January is gonna be bloody tight... Looks like it's gonna be a sack of spuds and a tray of eggs month... Good old english meal of egg and chips... A true 80's menu... Reminds me of my child hood... My expression of joy was "oh well, we're f*cked..." LOL

Hope all well and the colds have passed... Catch you soon xxxx

ooo Tristan had his jabs yesturday, lets just sau he wasnt a very happy bunny! Has anyone elses los had theres yet? xx

He was sleepy the rest of that day & was a teeny bit bruised when I took the plasters off the following morning & he was a fussypants tha day too, but generally, he was fine. Morning ladies. Feeling much more human this morning. We went out last night for the first time without James. Had dinner at Yo Sushi and then went and watched New Moon. It was fab! But very strange. OH kept saying he didn't like it lol. James decided he didn't want to sleep til 10.30pm so the babysitter had great fun playing with him and when we got back at 11pm he was sound asleep in her daughters arms holding his blankie. Managed to get him into the car seat, home and into his cot without waking him. He slept til 4am and then again til 8.30am. Has only just gone back to sleep again lol.

Bana - James had his jabs on Tuesday. He was very cross in the evening and a bit off his feeds the following morning but now is fully recovered and back to his normal chatty smily self.
