Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

:hugs: for Tristan

Flora im keeping the maternity stuff I will reuse like some tops and tunics, Im losing weight so hopefully next time I have a baby i'll be a smaller size. Im still wearing quite a bit of maternity clothes as some of the t shirts are great for feeding in and all the jeans are comfy but one pair is close to falling down

I went through all my clothes last week and mum took half my wardrobes with her to try sell for me as ive shrunk quite a bit. Ive stuck another load on here. Im going to be very short on clothes that fit at this rate.

Emily sorry to hear CC was up so much last nihgt, hope you can catch up on some rest. Congrats to hubby getting the job.

Morning all, well boobs were sore this morning so got a bottle of EBM out of the fridge and the greedy little man guzzled 4 oz so fast he projectiled at least 2/3rds of it all over the sofa and me, so had to get another bottle for him, he drank that one slower

So tired now but need to express the boobs.....

LOL. When Lil Miss was about 4 weeks old, we went to the DHs house. He fed her EBM and she pigged the lot, 1 minute later she projectiled all down his shirt, jeans, the sofa. I was laughing SO hard haha

Good afternoon ladies,
Just popping on while Earl sleeps before his lunch.

Has anyone attempted the crying down technique? Not to put too fine a point on it, Earl is a nightmare to get down during the day. At night he just seems to know that there's nothing interesting going on so he's happy to just go to sleep. During the day has always been another story and I was getting fed up of it.

I did a bit of research on sleep training techniques, thinking that I would have to wait until he was 4-6 months until I could attempt them, but 'Crying Down' came up for younger babies and my word ladies, does it work! Its a bit like controlled crying but not as regimented. I put him down awake but drowsy as normal, he kicks off as normal, I walk away and set the stop watch for 4 minutes, 4 minutes later I go over, stroke his head, put his dummy in, whatever soothes him without picking him up, then walk away again, if he starts crying again I set the stop watch again and repeat. This morning at 7am (he had woken up at 5,30 this morning which was ok as hubby was on an early anyway) he needed some persuasion and took 8 minutes, just now, I didn't even have to go back to him! :happydance: He has seemed a lot happier to just drift off whereas before he would wail the house down until you picked him up. If he was sound asleep in your arms then he would happily go into the travel cot to sleep, but wouldn't fall asleep actually in the cot! I'm a very happy Mummy!:happydance:

In other news.....lol...... well actually I don't have any! It's all rather boring really. I've noticed that Earl is totally unpredictable at night lol....he went down at 7pm last night, woke at 12.30, then was wide awake at 5.30 but then went to sleep from 7.30-10am  He sleeps well though so I can't complain. I think we were definitely going through a growth spurt as his creases in his legs have disappeared and his 3-6's are a perfect fit on the legs again :dohh: - good job I'm going shopping tomorrow for next size ups for him....thinking 2 piece pyjamas may be the way forward.....means I will need to stock up on socks! lol

Hope wer]'re all ok....on the subject of sick. Earl isn't really a sicky pup, but if he does, it always seems to be on hubby. I think maybe hubby is a little bit more forceful when he winds him. When he was 10 days old, hubby was feeding him late at night in bed at MIL's. He sat him up to wind him and the entire 2oz that he had just fed him went all over him and the bedclothes. Problem was it was 2am and we were guests in a houseful of people so rather than disturb the rest of the household too much, hubby just mopped it all up and slept on a towel on top of the beclothes. He was freezing as it was early November and there was no heating on! :dohh: We also had to try to find scissors to open a new carton of formula....which is fun in the dark. It's times like that that I wished I had BF'd!! lol

In asda the have 2 piece PJ's with feet on - i bought some tigger ones for Sam for Christmas, very cute.

Am grumpy as anything today, i had a tooth removed yesterday and dentist had difficulty getting it numbed for a start gave 4 injections then he couldnt get the bloody thing out, ended up cutting it in two lol he said he'd never seen roots like it! So today its hurting bad, was ok first thing.

We had chloes nativity last night, sam was awake but quiet throughout so very pleased with him.
Anyone elses LO want to sit upright in their pushchair? Sam isnt happy unless he's up and able to look around.

OMG, you are the bravest girl on the planet. There is no way - repeat, NO BLOODY WAY - I would allow my dentist to do that. I'm a general anaesthetic lass all the way. I hope you feel heaps better soon xx

jo - Havn't tried James in the pushchair part yet. Have him in the pram still but he is certainly trying to look around more and no longer goes to sleep as soon as we start walking. Think I might have to try him soon as he has pretty good head control and very rarely lets it drop.

We've been having a really rubbish day so far. James has screamed for hours. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Finally managed to get him to sleep, napped for 20 mins then took 2oz and was happy as a pig in s*** lol. Played on his mat for a few minutes and then the door went. Forgot that the bloody HV was coming today to do my PND questionnaire. Was right in the middle of washing up too! Anyway did the stupid questionnaire and scored 3 out of 30 so no PND for me :) Of course as soon as she left James started to scream again so my washing up hasnt been finished and washing is still on the floor waiting to go in the machine. Just managed to get him off to sleep again so I'm hoping he will stay asleep til OH gets home and then take a proper feed! Off to do some housework while he is settled.

While I wouldn't wish a whole day of baby crying on anybody, it does make me feel better when I read that other people have days like this. I just a moment ago asked my OH whether other babies sometimes cry ALL day for no known reason, and he said probably. I then check BnB, and there's LK saying how her day has been crap :-( because James has cried all day. LK, I feel for you. I am also having a day like that. We are off to the doctor this evening, as Monty still has squidgy poo and he is soooo unsettled. I am sure the doc will simply label us as neurotic parents, but at least I'll rest safe in the knowledge that I had my boy checked out, just in case.

Rather less settling is reading about the recall of Amby hammocks in the USA. We use one of these, but currently they're not being recalled in the UK. This is one of those issues where potentially it's all about litigation and the company simply covering its back. On the other hand, how on earth would we feel if anything were to happen while Monty was sleeping in his hammock? The sensible side of me thinks we should continue to use it as we always have done, but the emotional side of me reckons we should stop using it now and move the crib into our room instead. Don't really expect any answers to come to this comment - I just am thinking aloud really.

thanks, i can say that i will not be doing it again soon lol i had to get 4 removed when i was about 10 but they put me out for that, i was absolutely bricking it yesterday in there.

Well, FINALLY I have managed to get Harry to sleep... and all i had to do was feed & hold him solidly since 9am thismorning, sing to him (I cant sing, lol), and swaddke him so that it covered his mouth & kept his dummy in!
I am officially exhausted today. I am so grateful that Harry has now slept the last 6 nights right through, which is fabulous for me & my OH, but during the day, all I can say is that he is a squinnying, screaming, clingy git, who is only happy when attached to my boob! We've had 4 days of this now, where he refuses to sleep during the day & screams blue murder when he comes off my boob, gets burped etc, then when I re-latch him, he just holds it in his mouth & doesn't suck or anything, but just wants to be held & have it there for comfort- talk about being a human dummy! :dohh: But then, he pretty much refuses his actual dummy 90% of the time unless you physically hold it in or do what I did today & swaddle him with it in...
I'm seriously hoping all of this is just post-injection trauma, lol, and a growth spurt (I'm really noticing his weight now & how his little cheeks & thighs are plumping up nicely) coz if he plans to be like this for the next 18 years or so, I might just have to smother him. (just kidding ladies, but you know what I mean, hehe). He did a poo at last yesterday so I'm assuming constipation isnt a factor & he's been farting away nicely (!) all day too so no further trapped wind I imagine.

Any suggestions would be met with relief on my part, lol!!!

Anyway, while he's asleep, I've been a crazy woman trying to clean the kitchen, got dressed (at last), washed up & put a load of washing in, emptied all the bins, so I now have 3 black liners full in the kitchen for OH to take out tonight (damn food packaging, why they use so much plastic?!) & put all Harry's clothes away in his drawers again.
Time for a cuppa & a sandwich methinks, then got to start dinner for thisevening & thaw some ebm for OH to give bubs while I have a well deserved break & soak in the bath.

No suggestions from me - but I'd like to hear them if anybody has any! Days like you've had today, Flora, make the whole baby thing seem VERY hard work don't they? To be blunt, you just want them to shut up, don't you? Then when they do stop crying, you end up feeling awfully guilty because you love baby with all your heart and you wonder how you could possibly have ever been so cross with him. Been there, done that. I guess it gets easier with time, otherwise no woman would ever have a second baby!

Autumn had one of these turns at about 2 months, it lasted 2 days. I was about to loose my mind. Dr said growth spurt. she also went up to 5oz a feed.

Have you tried "baby wearing" during this time? Have a look at these sites https://www.wrapyourbaby.com/ https://wearyourbaby.com/ https://www.peppermint.com/

Those type of sling seem very popular here and colicy babies mums swear by them. It also allows you to breast feed hands free so you can gt on with stuff.

Im considering getting one for when shes fussy.

very true!

He's been asleep for just over an hour now & I feel renewed already, lol. I guess what doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger, as they say!!!

Irt's frustrating for me, because he is so smiley & happy in general, but the past few days, he's like a different baby. I love our playtimes together, where I can make silly noises, pull faces, tickle his tummy, which he loves & stuff, but those timesnow are so few & far between & only last 5-10mins now before he starts screaming again & it breaks my heart not really knowing what's wrong with him or what I can do to help, other than let him feed, feed, feed.
I totally dont mind feeding him all day, as I love the snuggles & bond it gives us, but I just wish he'd streach them out a bit again, like he used to, so we can have more of the play & happy times, and him not fighting against having a sleep longer than 15mins, lol.

Ah well... I just keep telling myself that he's only gonna be little for such a short time, that everything will be worth it to see him grow up a happy, friendly, bright and enthusiastic young man in the future. That's ALL I wish for him & I will do anything for him, iykwim, so a little bit of tiredness, pain, lack of food, drink, sleep etc, is all good in the grand scheme of things!

I officially give up. I don't know what is wrong with James :( He had a bath to try to relieve any tummy ache, tried feeding, cuddling, rocking, dummy, singing.....nothing is working. He has only had 9oz all day!!! I'm so tempted to give him some calpol cos I think he doesn't feel well but the woman who did his jabs said he could only have 2 doses before 3 months and he had 1 on Tuesday. Just don't know what to do. Not even his bouncer is settling him.

Gosh, it's me, LK and Florabean today, all sounding like we have very grizzly little boys. Hope they all settle ASAP. Hugs all round. xx

im probably wrong but i thought it was 2 doses per day  i gave sam 2 on the day of his jabs and one the following morning - he was ok just slept a little extra.

I'm sure it won't have done him any harm jo.

Well he has finally settled to sleep having taken 3oz of milk. Had to fight him to get it into him though. Hes now sound asleep up on my shoulder. Don't have the heart to move him yet even though I'm starving.

Isnt it funny how we're quite happy to starve ourselves if LO is asleep on us - i barely eat all day, i know its bad. Sam just had such an evil nappy lol OH ran out the room cos he was urging, Sams now sat on his lap talking to daddy :)

Jo I rarely eat through the day, I tend to eat breakfast and then have something when OH gets home from work. I have to remind myself to eat.

LK have you tried having a bath together, ive heard the skin to skin in bath relaxes them. Not tried it yet myself.

Flora :hugs: sounds like Harry is going through a spurt.

Well we are off house hunting for a new place to rent on Saturday, need to get out of this rotten damp house before it falls down.

Good evening!

Aimee-lou- It's so true about the stuff people buy as gifts. We just got a dress in the mail for Emma from my FIL and it's sized 0-3 months- he's not met Emma so I guess he didn't realize that she's big. Two piece PJs sound like a good plan. Emma always knocks her socks off in bed so you may not need socks for Earl :)

Colsy- Hubby went back to work about a week after Emma was born and since I BF and he's afraid of cloth diapers, I am pretty much doing everything all day (except for a bit of cuddle time in the evening). I'm sure things will go well for you :hugs: I think it's a little strange that Amby hasn't recalled its product everywhere too. You are probably right about them just covering their backs.

Maffie- hope you are feeling better! I'd be more than happy to send you some snow. I like distinct seasons but there is a whole lot of snow to shovel! Good luck with the house hunt!

Flora- Harry is definitely getting bigger too- chubby cheeks rock :) Congrats on getting the house before xmas! Like Chaos suggested, try babywearing if Harry is using you as a pacifier. I was having the same problem with Emma about a month ago. Now I wrap her to me throughout the day when she isn't feeding or playing and she happily naps while I go about my day the rest of the time. It's really cut down on her daytime fussiness. I use the Moby wrap and find it really comfy. I think my hubby is getting Emma and I a Babyhawk MeiTai for xmas too. If you decide to babywear and are looking to buy a wrap/sling, I'd recommend seeing if there is a shop in your area that would let you try before you buy. We discovered that Emma hates slings (she tries to stand up in them and screams) but she's quite happy in a wrap/MeiTai. Emma really enjoyed being in the Moby, forward facing, while we trimmed the xmas tree with all the shiny ornaments.

Bana- Hope Tristan is feeling better. Emma was supposed to get jabs on Monday but has a cold so we're having them done next Tuesday instead.

Chaos- Glad to hear the hearing went well. That's great that you have some closure before xmas. Sounds like Autumn is learning all kinds of new tricks this week- hide your keys ;) I'd be more than happy to send NC some snow :) Hope you feel better too.

eswift- congrats to your hubby on the new job!

jo_79- Hope you are feeling better- sounds like quite the ordeal at the dentist! Emma loves being the stroller in the upright position. I used to be able to get her to sleep on walks but now she loves looking at everything around her too. Cute Metallica shirt on Sam :)

Snow finally stopped- hubby shovelled it all while I stayed inside, conveniently feeding the baby :) We live in a cul-de-sac and when the city plowed the road, they left a 20 foot tall mountain in the middle of our street- the perfect hill for neighbourhood kids to slide down. I'm sure Emma will be doing the same in ~4 years :) Emma seems to be attempting to "sing" along to certain songs now too. I usually sing the same kids songs to her everyday and I've discovered that "head and shoulders" is her favourite as she now screeches along happily whenever I sing it. I'm amazed at how much she's changing, developing more personality everyday. Ahhh the bumpkins are growing up so fast :)

Hope everyone has a good night!

Morning ladies. Discovered at 4am what had been bothering James yesterday. Got up to feed him and he stank. Changed his bum and he had the most horrible acidy smelling green poo. Luckily it would appear I caught it pretty quickly and hes not got a sore bum. He seemed much happier, wolfed down 4oz and was out cold til 10 mins ago.
