Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

what a difference a day makes- after the swaddling with dummy thing yesterday, Harry slept for 2 hours, then woke up just after we finished tea, which was perfect timing! OH gave him some EBM while I had a nice soak in the bath with a facemask on, lol! When I got out, found them both laying on the lounge floor making noises at eachother- was so cute! :)
Harry slept through the night again (great!) so that's 7 full nights of sleep now! woo-hoo! So far today, he's been really content, allowing me to get dressed, wear make-up (!) & do the housework, all before 10am! I feel like supergirl for a change, lol. He's now sat in his chair dozing in & out of sleepiness & staring out the window again.

Anyway, better go as I need to finish my xmas shopping today.

:hugs: to all of you! xxxx

PS: Chaos & kaites- will defo look in to the babywearing; it sounds perfect for Harrybo at the moment.

Morning ladies

I am in total shock! I gave Chloe some hungry baby food, was trying to put it off but from one week she went from 150ml to up to 200ml sometimes, was eating every 2 hours and not pooing properly. I decided enough was enough and it seems to be working yey! She slept amazinly last night. I poped her down at 9.45pm and she didn't wake until 4.15am! Then slept again until 8am! I couldn't believe it! :happydance:

Morning naps are still a challenge tho for some reason, I am going to have to get one of those signs to stop leaflet droppers, they time it so perfectly when Chloe is settling down, snap goes the letter box and wakes her up! She still seems quite hungry in the day but its early days with the food so hope she settles down a bit.

Kaites ~ Oh yes, baby sick is the new fashion I have decided! She always seems to know when I have my fav jeans on, I think they are jinxed because I get covered if I wear them!

LK ~ glad to hear your recoveing well :D Sounds like a good evening out. My mum took Chloe for a few hours the other week and although it was nice it was weird at the same time. I couldn't wait for her to come back home!

Colsy ~ even tho OH is about I do night shift on my own. OH goes to bed at 6pm so from then I am on my own. He leaves the house at 1.30am and then I am physicaly on my own. :hugs: I am sure you will be fine when it comes to it :flower:

Hope you resolve the hammoc / cot issue.

I did that last night, told Chloe to shut up, I felt horrible afterwards, decided to change my words to 'be quiet now' in future. I felt awful and apologiesd to her but I have been there for hours trying to get her to sleep, she had been clung to me all day and nothing was working. I know it's not her fault and she is just trying to tell me she wants some help. She seems to have forgiven me tho thankfully!

Eswift ~ Congrat' to your OH even tho it's good ol' egg and chips on the menu. (I'm hungry now! lol)

Aimee ~ I was given a carrier, I don't think its mothercare but my instructions say forward facing from 3 months. Hope you find out :flower:

I am packing away some things for Chloe, I am giving a few items away to my cousins friend who is expecting a girl in January but I am dubious to give everything away in case we do decided to have another LO, it would be a few years from now if we do.

Well done on getting Earl to sleep in the day! I have to settle Chloe in my arms so it may be something I have to try soon as some days I feel she is constantly there. I feel bad as in a way I don't mind but I know we can't do it forever it's just not practical to have her there all the time either.

I bought Chloe some 2 piece PJ set's from ASDA before she was born, prob is the tops still fit her now but the pant legs / feet don't. It would be nice if you could mix and match sizes.

Maffie ~ hope you feel better soon :hugs: I am keeping my maternity stuff, if we do ever have another LO. I only had 2 sets of trousers, some work pants and a few tops. I was lucky as Chloe was a small bump so I fit into lots of my original tops for ages. Maybe lots of new clothes for Christmas for you then?!?

Hope the house hunt went well too.

Flora ~ Chloe is doing the same as Harry, I feel like I shouldn't grumble but she is so tiring in the day as nothing seems to satisfy or entertain her. Hope he feel better and settles soon for you :flower:

Chloe's Christening is on 31st January so she will be exactly 3 months old! We weren't planning it for then but it's the date the church could offered us and I think its quite nice that it has happened like that now. My best friend is so happy she is god mum, she has been here every week since I asked her and is really good with her. I am sure May will be here before we know it! Give you time to sort the house for a bit then enjoy his Christening rather than it all being a big whirlwind!

Also, Congrat's on the completion date! That's a Christmas present and a half!

Bana ~ not yet, a few more weeks but I am not looking forward to her being jabbed. I hated the Vit K job they gave her and her heel prick test. Hope Tristan is feeling better from them now and is sleeping better for you!

Chaos ~ its great to hear Autumn is doing so well. Hope your feeling better too! :flower: Chloe loves to bounce and has stong legs so we getting her a bouncer for Christmas, well maybe just after. Hoping for some sale discount of some sort!

jo_79 ~ hope the tooth feels better. Chloe lies down in her pram, I haven't tried her sitting but even if I did I know she would slump to one side! She tries for a bit but eventually flops over bless.

Yep about the starving, I do anything and everything to make Chloe happy, meaning I miss out on food and drink all the time!

- - - - -

Okay, think I caught up! Sorry if I missed anyone!

Off to scour the net for OH's christmas presents!

Afternoon all not had chance to catch up yet as in a rush trying to package up all the stuff ive sold so far. Ive bought Noah a jumperoo (2nd hand) and still have some money left so going to look at the shops this afternoon.

Our colds are still bad, mines going so im hoping Noahs will soon too.

Kte im keeping things like tunics and leggings in the smaller sizes in maternity gear but seen as im on a lose weight mission getting rid of the larger sizes will motivate me more I think.

Right time to hit the shops

see you all later x

Evening ladies. Well I took James to the drs this evening cos he is no better. And he was bloody useless. Even with the strong family history of milk intolerance he said it 'may be the beginnings of a milk problem but we wouldn't think of that straight away'!!! The poor kid is suffering. He checked him over and said hes not obviously ill, has an obviously sore tummy but there is nothing bad to feel there. His advice was to give him some water before he has a feed so its not so concentrated in his belly (he says it wont fill him up so it shouldnt stop him feeding) and if hes in pain then give him some calpol. I'm so frickin mad. He said just see how he is over the weekend and if hes no better bring him back on Monday. I don't think I can take another 3 days of him screaming in pain :(

LK, hugs to you. I hope you get to the bottom of James feeling unwell ASAP. I know what you mean about the doctor being useless - I hate it when doctors just seem to think that nothing's wrong but you KNOW there is something. I guess you could give NHS Direct a call over the weekend if things don't settle down - at least then if you decided to try going to the hospital instead, you could say "well, NHS Direct sent me", so you don't end up in that whole thing where you wonder whether you're wasting their time by being at the hospital. That's all really convoluted - I hope you see what I mean!

I have a query re daytime sleeps. It's only over the past week or so that I've accepted that we have absolutely NO daytime routine at all. Now, the lack of routine really doesn't bother me - I like it that way, as I'm a non-routine sort of gal. However, I've also realised that the only time Monty sleeps in the day is if he happens to fall asleep in the pram, or after I've BF, or if I or my OH is holding him, either in the sling or on our laps. At that point, we sometimes transfer Monty to his crib, and he will either carry on sleeping or he'll wake up, very disgruntled, and yell until one of us picks him up. But talking to other girls, it seems that some mums know when their baby is tired in the day and put the baby down in the cot immediately he shows signs of tiredness, and then baby has a lovely nap. Other mums have a strict routine and always put baby down for a nap at certain times. So what about you lot? Are there any of you that are doing what my OH and I are doing and waiting for baby to fall asleep on us? I think half my issue is that if I simply pop Monty into his crib BEFORE he is asleep during the day, he will almost certainly scream blue murder, which is not conducive to a happy baby or a happy mummy, and in the end nobody gets any sleep or relaxation. So are you all using crying techniques and simply walking away from your crying babies? Or do your babies all quite happily go to sleep during the day? Or what ...?

On the doctor front, our GP said nothing to worry about re Monty's runny poo. He is nicely hydrated, so no worries there. He's still definitely not quite right, but at least my mind was set to rest.

And re the Amby hammock, we used it again last night. I was a bit nervous to start with, but then I relaxed about it. Hard to know whether this is the right or wrong thing to do, but we are adults and have to make decisions, some of which will be good and others bad. That's just life really isn't it?

Luv y'all xx

Well he seems to have settled a little better with the water before his feed...although he did look at me as if to say 'WTF is this mother?!' lol. Took 3oz of milk and is now asleep, without the whimpering in his sleep that he has been doing. Hoping this will carry on. I am going to carry on with the water before feeds tonight and tomorrow and then stop it on Sunday. At least that way I will know if it is the water helping or he just sorted himself out. Then I can take him back to the drs on Monday if it was the water and get him put on Wysoy.

Hugs to you LK and to James too! I don't like Dr's when they are so dismissive....I once had to tell my Dr outright that he was wrong when he told me that I wasn't ill - turns out I was right as I got a 2nd opinion!

Colsy - I've replied to your thread re: routines and daytime

Kaites - I went to get some more sleepsuits and pyjamas today. They look massive but then i put them up against the ones he's wearing now they're only about an inch or two longer in each of the limbs which isn't really a lot I suppose. It's just strange and they really look massive!! I'm hoping that Earl will start to plateau out though as to be honest, he can't carry on like this lol :dohh: My Mum has bought some pyjamas for Earl and they are somewhere in the postage system so we will see what they are like!

Anyhoo's I'm not on for long tonight - going to settle down and watch a movie I think. Earl slept from 7pm until 5am last night so I'm hoping for a kind of repeat tonight as hubby is taking Earl out in the morning so I can have a lie in!! :happydance: I did the same for him this morning and Earl and I toured the shops. It was lovely but he was awake ALL day with the exception of about half an hours nap! :dohh: Means he's absolutely shattered which will either mean a really good long night or an early wake up as he's starving!:dohh: I couldn't believe how alert he was today though....I was in ASDA (getting his new clothes) and there was a brass band playing and his little eyes wnet really wide. I actually got him out of the pram to watch as he seemed fascinated!! :flower:
Anyhoo, I will most likely be on tomorrow. I've officially finished my Christmas shopping. I'm waiting on one more thing arriving but I'm going to give it to huby early so I'm going to wrap the rest of his pressies tomorrow and then we're putting the tree up! I'm so excited to see Earl's reaction to the lights! :happydance: I'll put up a piccy too as I'm very proud of our tree - it's a 7.5ft slimline spruce decorated in a white and silver theme! It always looks so lovely, despite it being me who dcecorates it lol :dohh:

Have a nice evening ladies xx :hugs:

Well I have a more happy baby this morning. The water before his feeds seems to be helping him. He actually took 4oz at 5am! And didnt scream or whimper in his sleep. He has been smiling at me this morning and has now gone to sleep in his bouncer without any help whatsoever. Going to tidy up my living room, do the washing up and then wrap my christmas present (OH has decided he can't possibly wrap it, and to be fair he isnt going to get time before going to pick up DSS, and I already know what I have lol) because we are celebrating christmas on Monday :)

It's very quiet in here today!!

Just a quickie from me....Earl had another long night and eventually woke up at 5.30am! Hubby and I were then wide awake so we've both been up since then. Earl went back down for a little bit we both had baths, bacon butties and tidied the upstairs including cleaning the bathroom!

Hubby is out with Earl so I've just wrapped all the Christmas presents, and I'm just about to move the furniture round and get the tree and decs out ready for when they get back. Bless hubby, he was so excited about their 'boys day out!'...he was taking Earl into his work to show him off so he dressed him in little jeans and an' I listen to T-Rex with my daddy' t-shirt! Looked so adorable!! (The label said 6-9months but Earl will not be able to wear it after today!! :dohh:)

Anyhoos, may have to make the most of having a house to myself and have a cuppa and a cake!! :coffee:

Hope you're having lovely Saturdays xx :hugs:

LK- we must have posted at the same time! Glad that the water is helping James  Sounds like he's on the mend.

Enjoy your present wrapping...for some reason I love wrapping presents! It's my favourite thing to do. Just a bit sad that I've finished all mine now :nope:

Aimee - I have already wrapped all the rest of the presents but Laurie hasnt actually wrapped mine and I asked him last night if he was actually going to wrap mine or was I going to have to wrap it myself lol. James is proving how much better he feels....he is on his playmat, chatting to his ladybird and trying oh so hard to grab it lol. The legs on it are knotted strings and he wants to put them in his mouth lol. He was absolutely fascinated by one of the toys in their room this morning. I was burping him and he looked over at the toy box and spotted Harri's tiger (its one of those ones that you knock over and it pings back up and is about 2 foot high lol) and wouldnt look away from it for about 5 minutes!

Awww - Looks like someone may lose their tigger to James!! lol

Earl doesn't seem overly fussed by toys at the moment....then again give him time lol..... food on the other hand is a different matter. He keeps sticking his hand out as if he's trying to reach for what we're eating!! :dohh: I even caught him trying to eat my cheese toastie the other day. I had been feeding him and he had drifted off and rather than wake him I picked up my toastie and started to eat it. I must have got distracted, dropped my hand close to his face. I look down and he's there doing his baby-bird impression trying to make his lips fit around my sandwich! :dohh: Obviously he didn't get any, and I personally think it was just that it was white and he had fallen asleep while eating so thought it was his bottle. He also stares at a number of different pictures we have in the house including one of Zebras we have in our bedroom.....fixated isn't the word! lol

James loves to look at our picture of the New York skyline and when we are at my parents he loves the photos on the wall of his cousins.

Mornin' Girls,

Flora ~ I LOVE swaddling. It makes her sleep so well. Sometimes I get temped to do it in the day when she's wakes her self up from naps by clobbering her self in the face, but it worries me it might muck up her night time routine as she knows swaddle = bed time.
It's interesting to me that both Autumn and Harry being nearly the same age, started sleeping thru the night at the EXACT same time!

Kte ~ What's "Hungry baby food"? Like rice cereal in the milk? Glad it helped her!
Regarding naps, unless she's already passed out Lil Miss A won't sleep in her pack and play. She will how ever pass out every time if I lay her boppy pillow on the sofa and put her in it. I think she likes the feeling of something around her, it must feel like an arm or something.

Maffie ~ I put Autumn in her Jumparoo yesterday haha. I had to stuff towels down her back because she's still too skinny for the seat. She can finally touch the floor tho and is getting the idea Moving legs = bouncing!

LK ~ Curious, have you tried a lactose free formula.. I mean do you have to get it via the DR or can you buy it from the shops? We put Lil Miss on Lactose free because her butt STANK and she was mega gassy/fussy, and it just stopped all that with in a day. Hope lil James feels better soon.
Congrats on a full nights sleep!

Aimee ~ Awesome that Earl is sleeping thru the night!!!

So last night was A LOT better than the night before with little miss. All day Thursday she was quite fussy and moany. I gave her a bit of Calpol about 12 noon and she passed out for a couple hours. Well about 6 her little belly was like a rock, so I started cycling her legs and rubbing her belly and good lord she let out a fart that a trucker would be proud of ahaha. I think it even surprised her!!!

I went on a girls night out that night, so the DH bathed her and put her to bed, I kinda thought she'd be fussy during the night as she'd been so pissy in the day, plus the fact of the change in her routine (DH bathing her) . I got home about midnight, and sure enough she was waking up all night and getting out her swaddle. She still didn't eat, she just needed re-swaddling (4 times) after the 4th time I gave up and pulled her in to the bed, which she LOVES sleeping with her head on my pillow lol and she was out in 3 seconds.
Of course when she's in my bed I don't sleep properly, I just doze so I was totally exhausted by the time morning come.

Last night was so much better tho, she went to bed about 930 and just woke up at 7am and is currently talking to ... I dunno what you call it. They lay under it and things dangle down and when she pulls them it plays music and flashes light. She' thinks its the best thing since sliced bread haha.

She's got this little dramatic "fake cough" going on. She'll do it when she wants attention haha. This morning when I was making her breakfast she went "cough cough" (it almost sounds like a hiccup lol) so I did it back to her, she laughed and fake coughed back at me!! That's the first time she's done that lol.

Ok busy day, I have to go let my friends dogs out a couple times today and tomorrow as they are out of town. I'm going to suprise her and give her house a clean as she had to go back to work as her DH lost his job and then got another that paid less, so with a 2 year old (he works days, her days and nights) the house has kinda gone to pot. I know personally when I let the house get untidy it depresses me, so I'm hoping this will give her a little lift.

Then to night we have the DHs xmas party at his bosses house! Somewhere between all these I need to fit food shopping in!!

Okie loves, have a FABULOUS day!

Chaos - I suggested that to the dr because DSS, my little sisters girl, and OHs sisters girl are all lactose intolerant. He said it 'could be the start of a milk problem' but he wouldn't jump straight to that and it 'could be lots of other things'. Stupid man. We can buy lactose free formula in the shops but if we get it through the drs it is free. I am going to trial him without the water pre-feed tomorrow and if he is the same then I am taking him back on Monday and telling him to put him on the soy formula.

God, what a knob jockey. So while he tries to decide "what it might be" the LO has to suffer. Blah.

We have two kinds of lactose free here, obviously the Soy one and then one that is still milk based, but lactose free. If he still refuses you the free stuff, maybe you could get a small tin of the generic lactose/or soy free one and see how it does for a day or two then take him back and say "look my kid has improved on this, now give me the FREE stuff"

It really grates my nerves when the Drs think they know best because its "how other babies are" or base everything on Colic, rather than take notice of what the Mum is saying and taking in to consideration that every baby is different when it comes to these things.

I hope the pre water feed goes as well for you :)

Its very tempting to do that. The Wysoy is not any more expensive than the formula we are already on. He has been alot happier today with the more watered down feed so we will see what hes like tomorrow with the normal formula again. I was just so upset that he didn't listen to me. I was talking to my mum last night and said to her hes not the one who has to listen to him scream all weekend :(

Good afternoon ladies :)

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! Hubby made me a big breakfast this morning and I just finished baking a cake to take over to my parents for dinner tonight and lil Miss Emma slept in her swing while I baked the cake and then in the Moby wrap while I iced it- I love it when she lets me get stuff accomplished! She was awesome for us when we went out xmas shopping yesterday too- went to my favourite baby store with hubby and he bought us our new Mei Tai wrap (no surprises for my xmas presents) and then we went out to lunch and Emma slept the whole time. It was lovely to not have her fussing for a boobie during lunch! We went to our favourite pub in our old neighbourhood for some nachos- I couldn't eat them when I was preggers because the jalapenos gave me terrible heartburn. Unfortunately we paid for Emma's good behaviour later in the evening. She screamed from 8:30-1:30, only quieting when we were walking her and she refused to BF. I knew she was hungry because she was sucking on my finger and then flipping out when she realized it was just a finger. We finally clued in and defrosted some EBM which she guzzled up- I think she reacted badly to the jalapenos in my BM :( It's the only thing that was different in my diet yesterday and the first time she's had a reaction like that. Hopefully tonight will go better!

littlekitten- that's great to hear that James is doing a little better today- poor little guy, I hope the lactose-free formula solves his discomfort if you decide to try it. Enjoy your xmas celebrations on Monday!

chaos- Have fun at the xmas party! That's sweet of you to clean your friend's place :)

Aimee-lou- hope you enjoyed having the house to yourself :) Sounds like you had a very productive morning and like Earl is ready for some baby-led weaning :) Emma did the same thing with a candy cane- we were sitting her by the tree for some photos and there was a candy cane within her reach, so she grabs it and puts it in her mouth. Luckily it was in a plastic wrapper.

Well, time for me to start to get ready to head out the door for dinner- sad that I have to give us an hour to get ready to go to my parent's which is 5 minutes down the road!

Poor little Earl is having a right time of it tonight. Hubby has just taken him out for a walk to try to calm him down as he's so worked up - I was already in my nightie otherwise I would have gone.

I think it's one of two things....either trapped wind or teething, or both :dohh: I've given him the smallest amount of teething gel to see if it helps and he did quiet down for about 20-30 minutes, so much that we tried to put him to bed again, but nope, as soon as he's laid down he does not like it at all. He's hot and rosy cheeked, kicking his legs, got the biggest 'trumps' in the world coming out of him and the poor thing just can't sleep. I know it's still early but he was crying all afternoon so I took him up for his bath which normally calms him down and it did for a while, but not long after he got works up and has now been cryng for over an hour

Kaites - Yes we are going to be BLW when he reaches 6 months....I think he would quite gladly start now!

Ooh best be off....hubby's back and I can't hear crying so here's hoping he's fast out!!

hey all :)

LK- sorry to hear the Dr was no help. My nephew is lactose intolerant & ended up in hospital for 3 days when he was a few weeks old before they'd believe my sister that something was majorly wrong- she was BFing so she cut out all dairy from her diet completely & within a week, he was a different baby. And my brother is severely dairy intolerant to the point where it makes him bleed internally (he was seriously ill as a baby as a result, was switched to all kindsa different milk, but reacted to everything except soya milk, which back then wasn't sweetened, cost a small fortune & could only get it in sainsbury's, lol), so it wouldn't surprise me if Harry has a sensitivity towards it too, but since i BF & dont eat a lot of dairy products myself, I guess we wont know till he'd being weaned... Hope James feels better soon & you get to the bottom of it.

Well, we had a nice day. Harry has been an angel all day- like the poster boy for babies, lol. He woke up at 6:30 (8 nights slept through in a row now!!!!!!) then we snuggled together making faces & stuff for another hour. Got up, went into town, then caught the bus to the school where I coach trampolining (haven't caoched for a while due to pregnancy, but start back again in the new term) coz they had their xmas presentation & display. He sat for 2 hours, cooing away, absolutely mesmorised by the gym & trampolining displays... Tis weird to think I was still doing somersaults when I was 4 months pregnant! The thought of it now makes me feel sick, lol. Anyways, fed him, then came home on the bus, fed him again & he had a little nap, then laid on the changing mat, staring away at the TV & xmas lights while that cheryl cole program was on & didnt start moaning again for food until half way through x-factor! Then he fed again, had some daddy cuddles & we put him down awake in his basket at 9:45 & he's happily asleep.... Could be something to do with the fact he spent all yesterday farting & did 3 poo-zooka style bowel movements today!!! It's official- pooing makes babies happy! :)

Got to make my wedding invites tomorrow- I have been putting them off for ages coz it seems like a mammoth task, espcially fitting it in while H is asleep (or not) but OH has promised to take Harry round the harbour & bach tomorrow so ni can get them done ready to post on monday...

Right, better go to bed coz I'm really tired today for some reason!

Have a great rest of the weekend ladies. :)
