Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Morning all, well been a busy weekend here, Saturday we went o view some houses to rent down in New Mills, I think we are going to apply for the 2nd one we saw. Smaller place than we are in but has a garage (much needed for the bikes) and it has the most amazing views (its on the top of a hill looking down into the valley). We then went to visit my mum Saturday afternoon and then yesterday we went to visit Dan's mum who hadn't met Noah!

My mum gave Noah one of his Christmas presents, she's so bad as she'll go buy more. She really is spoiling him.

Noah is doing so well, is sleeping has improved dramatically and he seems to of dropped one of the night feeds. I'm impressed at how well he's doing has he caught my cold so he has a horrid stuffy and runny nose and the cough is horrendous. He is meant to have is jabs on Tuesday but dont think the doctor will do them while he's all chesty.

Morning everyone!

Well we had a troubling couple of days with a very grouchy Earl but he's woken up this morning his normal self and I kid you not, a full inch longer!! I think we can safely say it was a growth spurt! lol

We're off to have his clicky hip checked today. They found it when he was 24 hours old and they made us this referral. I don't think we'll have any issues as he's a very active little baby so we should be fine.....here's hoping for a simple in and out!

Hope we're all ok.

Chaos - I love your new avatar! Soooo cute!

Hey all, i went to cork in ireland on saturday for 1 night with everyone from work, was good didnt drink too much cos didnt want to still be hungover when i came home to sam on sunday and not ony that but i've gone through 3 boxes of paracetamol since having my tooth out on wednesday and its agony so booked an emergency appointment this morning dentist took one look and said you've got a bad infection  cleaned it out and give me antibiotics for 5 days if it dont clear he'll send me to hospital im praying it clears cos i cant be doing with that over xmas.

Awww - Looks like someone may lose their tigger to James!! lol

Earl doesn't seem overly fussed by toys at the moment....then again give him time lol..... food on the other hand is a different matter. He keeps sticking his hand out as if he's trying to reach for what we're eating!! :dohh: I even caught him trying to eat my cheese toastie the other day. I had been feeding him and he had drifted off and rather than wake him I picked up my toastie and started to eat it. I must have got distracted, dropped my hand close to his face. I look down and he's there doing his baby-bird impression trying to make his lips fit around my sandwich! :dohh: Obviously he didn't get any, and I personally think it was just that it was white and he had fallen asleep while eating so thought it was his bottle. He also stares at a number of different pictures we have in the house including one of Zebras we have in our bedroom.....fixated isn't the word! lol

lol reading this just sounds sooo like Chloe, about toys food and everything . . . also the pic she likes has Giraff's on! :haha:

Mornin' Girls,

Well it's dismal, foggy and grey here today. I kinda like it really, reminds me of home haha.

She went from 9pm to 8am this morning. The extra hour was nice cause she normally wakes me up at 7am. I think she might make a 12 hour stretch soon.

Finally got Autumns Santa picture thru this weekend from the photographer that took it. I totally LOVE it (See Avatar) He did such a good job in taking it.

Not much going on today, going to a play date in a couple of house (its more for the Mums than the kids haha)

In other news this time next week my family will be on the way over from England! Autumns Great Nan, Aunt and Uncle are coming over for Christmas. I can't WAIT!!!

Maffie ~ I'm glad Noahs sleeping is going well! Do you have one of those bulb syringes that they clear the mouth and nose out at birth? Autumn was really stuffy the other day, not a cold, just clogged up. Obviously you can't get your finger up there lol, so I asked the Dr how I could help unblock her. She said get a nasal saline solution, put a couple of drops in each nostril, leave for ten secs or so and then suck it all out. It works like a dream!! Of course she wasn't too impressed at having water put in her nose, but now she's got used to it and pretty much just lays there.
Hope he feels better soon!!

Aimee ~ Thank you! :) Hope Earls appointment goes well.

Jo ~ I had 2 glasses of wine the other day and had a stonking hangover the next day! The body isn't use to booze any more haha.
Hope your tooth heals soon. Did he give you any painkillers? Clove oil is supposed to be awesome for tooth pain.

Ok I need to get my butt ready. Have a great day :)

Off to docs tomorrow but think I need one of those snot busting gadgets lol

He's so clingy today but I dont blame him.

Hello All, hope were all doing well, and babies are well, sorry not been on for a while. Well things are alot better with George and his wind, hes alot more settled, and hes slept 3 times last week from 10.30 till 6am, so were getting there slowly, im really feeling better aswell now, not blaming myself for his wind etc, hopefully in a couple of weeks he will be in his own bed, not the moses basket and sleeping through, just a quick question, when you move them from a basket to there own cot, do you lie them in the cot with the feet at the bottom, like you do in a moses basket? also i all hope you like my new siggy, its fab!!!

Well OH haggled on the rental price of one of the houses and they have come back with an offer, so all being well we will be in Derbyshire in the new year :happydance: Not has close to my mum has I wanted but out in the countryside.

Chaos i asked the dentist about painkillers and he said i shouldnt need them, he stuffed one of the holes with some anesthetic covered stuff that looked like matted hair, its not hurt all day but it seems to be wearing off now and the pain is back. So when i was picking up my prescription i got 2 packs of ultra strong paracetamols, ibroprufen dont work on me and my body doesnt agree with co codamol.

Evening ladies. Well we have had a really rubbish time with James. He is still not a happy boy. Took him back to dr this afternoon and she basically said it was colic (as if I dont know the difference) and implied that I was being a paranoid mother. I got home, cried my eyes out and then phoned the HV. They share a computer system with the drs so she could see what the dr from Friday had written. She wants me to bring him to clinic tomorrow to get him weighed. He was only on the 9th centile anyway so dont want him dropping any more! Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it tomorrow and actually get some advice or something done about it! If they dont do something tomorrow then I am just going to go get some soya milk myself and see if it helps him. Sick of listening to him suffer just because they think I'm making it up. Have started writing down his feeds so they can see how much he is taking. He finally took a 5oz feed at 4.30pm. First one in 5 days! He has mostly been taking 2-3oz so I'm really worried that he wont have gained enough weight and will have dropped below the 9th centile. He is also only cat-napping during the day and doing a max of 10 mins at a time unless I am holding him which is not like him at all. Normally he takes 2 naps of about 2 hours each a day. And then sleeps from 9pm ish to 3am ish and then til around 8am. Not so at the moment. Sleeping from about 10pm to about 1am, then to about 5am then awake again for the day at around 7.30am. Takes about 2oz a feed at night and then falls asleep.

Hi girls,

LK - Sorry to hear James isn't happy. I would be inclined to follow my instinct. Talk to the HV tomorrow but if you think it's something and the Dr isn't willing to help, give it a go. It certainly can't make him any worse surely!

Thanks Chaos - Yep, we have the all clear and 2 perfect hips! The Dr (well radiographer lol) explained that clicky hip doesn't necessarily describe it best. What they feel for is a true dislocation of the joint- so a dull 'clunk' in his words. A click is quite normal in any joint in a baby, a clunk is NOT! Earl must have had a suspected 'clunk' in his hip (difficult to tell at 1 day old) but for every 40 referals only 1 will actually have hip dysplasia of any kind. (I thought this was interesting. Why they can't explain this at the time I'll never know!!)

Sam - glad to hear that George is better. I love your siggy!!

Anyhoo's - Earl's in bed and Hubby and I have a tin of miniature heroes to demolish!! Speak to you later on ladies!! xx

Chaos- love the avatar! :)

LK- sorry to hear James is struggling at the moment- you're not being paranoid at all IMO; stick to your guns until they sort something out for him. :hugs:

Sam- glad George is doing better & congrats on the good nights of sleep too! Your siggy is completely adorable! What a cute smile he has!!!!

Aimee- glad Earl's hips are a-ok! :)

Maffie- Harry has a cold too; get some Nasosal from the chemist- it's just saline drops for babies. It's been great at clearing his blocked nose, especially first thing in the morning when he's so blocked up he can feed effectively. The squeezy bulb things (nasal aspirators, I think they're called?) can be bought in tescos, asda etc... I think our one was something silly like 99p from Asda & does the job just fine. A couple of drops of breastmilk in their nose is supposed to do the same thing too, and lansinoh cream to stop their noses getting sore too is fab.

Managed to get James down in his moses basket after about 45 minutes of screaming. At least he took a decent feed at 4.30pm. Only took 3oz at 9.30pm so he will probably be awake for another feed at 1.30am. We are off to get our professional photos done tomorrow morning so hopefully we can get him smiling and not screaming lol. I will just feel much happier when we know what is making him so upset.

Morning all, well Noah was very sicky last night all his feeds were coming back up and he went from inconsolable to a pasty white and just not himself, he was so quiet and lethargic. Anyway NHS direct told us we needed to see the out of hours doctor so off I went to the drop in clinic and the poor mite has a chest infection. His cough now sounds worse than mine :(

Thankfully now he's on meds the milk is staying down and he slept through from 12-6 last night. This could of been nipped in the bud if doc has listened to me before the weekend.

What is it with these Dr's and not listening recently.

LK and Maffie - I hope your little guys are feeling better today. :hugs:

We have our 6 week check today (7 weeks 1 day whoops I booked the wrong week!) so we will get to see how much Earl weighs. When we were at the clinic yesterday he was the largest baby by far!! I know he was a week older than most of them (his appointment had been re-arranged from 6 weeks) but surely this wouldn't make him that much bigger!

He's asleep at the moment having just screamed the place down with hunger! :dohh: I tried to get him to sleep but he wasn't having any of it! Oh well. We've got to take hubby to work this afternoon so we can get to our appointment so we will have to be off to get ready shortly otherwise we'll never get out of the house on time! :dohh:

Have a nice day ladies xx

Hiya girls, hope you are all ok, I haven't had chance to post much lately, sooo busy and Ethan hit his 6 week growth spurt abit early but he's 6 weeks old today and looks to be calming down again, phew!!
So pleased-managed to catch him smiling on camera on Sunday :cloud9:

Just tried to add a pic but upload failed  try later, Ethans woke up from his nap cryin xx

Are you still moving to New Mills Maffie? You'll be just around the corner (well,20 minutes anyway) from us. There's a great Sure Start in Buxton that runs loads of courses (all free of charge) so maybe we'll meet up there. Good luck with the house move - hope it all goes really well. xx

Hi Sam, sounds as though things are definitely starting to settle for you, which is fab. Can I ask whether you did anything in particular to improve George's wind? Or was it just something that has started to get better on its own? Maybe this is like the whole colic thing, which everyone says changes almost overnight at 12 weeks. Also, how have you suddenly managed to get him sleeping better? Was that related to the wind, or have you some special technique? Love to know, as I think George and Monty share some early issues with wind, colic, sleep etc. Thanks hon xx

Hello all,

I sooo need to catch up, did start a post yesterday but then OH decided we would change the whole room around due to a new telly bless and so the PC got turned off and bye bye went my post!

Chloe had her 6 week check today, all seems well except that she has jumped up another weight percentile. I have to get her re weighed after Christmas to see how things are, I am hoping tht this hungry baby food keep her on track now since she was only put on it last week. She was such a good little baby at the doctors for ages, we sat near the Christmas tree and she was smiling and babbaling at it. About half way through the check she got hungry tho as I had had to disrupt her feed to get to the doctors and baby clinic on time! She screamed the place down! They let me go into a little room to feed her.

Just writing Christmas cards, the last few. OH has asked me to pop to the shop now and get some bread, like I can just pop to the shop, its a major event getting out the door! Luckily Chloe is asleep in her pram (its flat so like a moses basket) and so I will take her in a bit . . . maybe pic up some chocolate too!!

:hugs: to all

Any other bumpkins finding their babies are sleeping for shorter rather than longer periods during the day? Monty most definitely is, and I'd love to change this! Have put a post here https://www.babyandbump.com/baby-cl...ter-shorter-times-each-night.html#post3823792 Any thoughts?
