Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Bingers - we have the Mothercare My3. Its so easy to push and James seems to like it. The pram part on it is really big so James still fits in it but he is getting bored cos he is such an alert little boy. He loved being sat up cos he could look around. And cos the seat converts to the pram just by laying it back and unclipping 1 thing its easy to lay him down if he falls asleep or if he was asleep when I put him in.

Well OH managed to get home last night which was nice. He doesn't have to start work til 3pm so he's having some quality daddy-son time. James is cooing and giggling away at him.

James slept from 10pm til 4am, demolished a 5oz bottle, then went back down til 10.15am!! Only took 30z then lol for daddy. He has woken up all snuffly and a bit pale so I'm going to keep an eye on him cos he has these little 'fits' so we have to be very careful with his temperature as he is more prone to febrile seizures.

Aimmee - where abouts does your mum live as I am in Bingley?

Is not too bad here this morning although our road still pretty awful but main roads all clear. Hubbie managed to get to work in Harrogate this morning - left at 4.30am - ok. Asked him to text me when he got there as he wrote his car off last winter - skidded on ice into a lamp post - and he said he would but if he forgot not to worry! Obviously I pointed out that I was asking him to text so I didn't worry!

Yay my Wii Fit Plus arrived this morning! Been testing it out and James thinks its bloody hilarious watching me hehe. I'm very lucky cos my friend from postnatal group has one and every time she turns hers on her baby starts to cry lol. Really ought to be doing my housework though lol so I'm going to behave and switch it off til his next nap :)

harry cries whenever i use mine too!!! i think he wants me to be a cuddly mummy rather than a yummy mummy!

Well James is certainly eating much better. He took 5oz at 4am, then slept til 10am. Had another 4oz at 10.30am. Played with daddy for a bit, slept for an hour, then took another 4oz at 2pm and has gone down for a nap in his cot for the first time ever!

Littlekitten
- asked re your pram as I thought it looked like the My3 as we have that too. OH prefers the My3 as the handle is higher than that on the other pushchair I bought that is lighter etc but we still using the pram bit as wasn't sure if was too soon to start using the pushchair bit. We have the same 'problem' with Phoebe i.e. she loves to nosey at what is going on so may have to look at using it in pushchair mode sooner rather than later if James has been ok as she is only one day younger than him. How was the my3 in the snow?

Oh well best get on while Phoebe is asleep as not sure how long she will sleep for!

Bingers- It was actually OK in the snow, thats the advantage of having pneumatic tyres hehe. You can use the seat from birth but obviously more laid back. He was actually fine sat up that far but then he has always had amazing head control. Just try her and see how she gets on. If she looks like she is flagging then you can always tilt her back a little more.

I'm a little bit worried girls. Now that James is moving around more and reaching for things its becoming very obvious that hes not moving his right side very much. He keeps his right arm either bent at the elbow with his hand near his face in a fist, or straight down with the hand in a fist. Will post some pics in a min to show you what I mean. He had the cord round his neck at birth and because his heartrate had been dropping alot they checked his blood gases and he was slightly acidotic (means he was starved of oxygen briefly). He has been referred to a paediatrician for his 'fits' anyway so I will speak to them about it but we havn't even got then appointment through for that yet. What do you think?

Ok here are some pics of how he holds his arm all the time.

Thanks Littlekitten. Will definitely try it as like James Phoebe has great head control and the doctor was pretty surprised at how good it was at her 8 week check. The big advantage will be that she always sleeps better in her other pushchair where she is more upright - think having a good nosey tires her out - and this will mean I'll get more use out of it as have been using the other as obviously the longer sleep is very welcome!

Cute pictures of James and re his arm I have noticed that Phoebe tends to use one more than the other although does quite happily flap both around at other times! My sister actually pointed out how she seemed to favour one arm over the other which of course got me worrying but I think she is fine. From your description am I right in thinking he does hold it in a few different positions but will do more with his other arm?

Sorry I'm not much help as is difficult to really judge from photos alone but I would probably keep an eye on it and ask the doc when you see him re fits as you say x

He only holds it in those 2 positions. He moves his other arm everywhere including across his body to grab things. I video'd him playing and its really very obvious that he isn't moving that arm and barely moving that leg. Don't know how to upload the video onto here or I would post it.

lk- upload it onto you tube & then post the link here; i think that's how it's done?
re the arm- speak to your dr about it; it may well be fine, but better safe than sorry. harry had the cord around his neck too, & was ventouse delivery & when aimeelou was saying aboutearl's arm, i got all panicky & started watching harryt's arm movements like a hawk, but all seems well as far as i can tell, but he definitely favours his right arm in terms of big movements & a stronger grip- i figure that means he's more likely to be right handed tho?

Q: i'm kinda envious about those of you who's babies sleep well during the day. how do you get them to sleep during the day????? harry sleeps right through the night, which is fab, but i just cant get him to sleep during the day unless he's on me, which isnt so much sleeping as dozing in & out until he wants boob again! :dohh:

Florabean - only guaranteed way I can get Phoebe to sleep during the day is by taking her out for a walk and I then leave her outside to sleep as they used to do in the old days! She is always really well wrapped up -perhaps too well as can be a bit sweaty when she wakes but I'd rather that than she be too cold - and I can see her! If I bring the pram inside she is guaranteed to wake up and with her getting lots of fresh air she always still sleeps at night.

She is actually outside now wearing vest, pants, long sleeve top, cardigan, mits, thick socks and snow suit plus a blanket and rain cover. Was a bit worried about having to use pram to get her to sleep but HV said it was fine and if it meant she was happier I was to keep doing it. May work for you?

Mornin' girls!

Kte ~ I forgot to add .. when I had my foo foo cut, they gave me this bottle to fill with warm water and it has holes in the lid that allow you to squirt it in the area when you pee to dilute it to stop it stinging. It also really helps with the other problem when you're trying to number 2. Maybe you could get one from the Dr?

Aimee ~ I'm glad the hungry baby milk is helping Earl sleep!

LK ~ That's a nice stretch of sleep! Was you awake before James waiting for him to wake up lol. I was when Autumn started sleeping longer.
Re his arm, in the pictures it almost looks like the muscles are contracted? causing him to his fist to be tight? Yes I think you should talk to the pediatrician regarding it vs your own GP. Pediatricians are trained in children and has probably seen it before will know more about it. Hopefully it will just be a case of him needing some physio to help him utilize and build up strength in the arm and loosen the muscles :hugs: and btw OMGOSH LOOK AT THAT SMILE!!! <3

Re the video, make a youtube account and upload it on there, then you just post the link to the video, using the link button on the compost a post page.

So I took lil Miss Autumn out in the snow today! I'm so excited for her first snow! Here are a couple pics.

In the Bumbo!

Thanks girls. Will have a go after I've eaten lunch lol.

Chaos - he smiled like that as soon as I pointed the camera at him. Thought it was a once off but nope, every time I pointed the camera at him he smiled lol.

Hmm, well I just either lay her in the pack and play and turn the musical mobile projection thing on. (BEST THING I've ever got, keeps her mesmerized for hours!!) Or lay her in her boppy on the sofa and she dozes off. Sometimes if she's over tired I just get her to sleep in my arms and just lay her in the pack and play.

She does not sleep very much in the day any more. Shes sleeps at about 930 for 45 minutes to an hour and then again about 2pm. That one can be up to two hours.

You need to make it public .. its set to private atm..

Flora- cute pics of Harry! It's nice to have some time to get the house done up the way you like it before moving. We had a couple weeks too and repainted- so much easier to paint if there isn't any furniture in the house! Like Kte said, it's a cool feeling to walk through the house and know that it is yours. As for sleeping, Emma will only nap if she is in the car, in her stroller (but only if shopping- she's wide awake for a walk around the neighbourhood) or wrapped to me. We only get a few hours of naps now too. I guess their sleeping patterns are changing as they get older.

Kte- hope you are feeling better! :hugs:

Aimee-lou- glad to hear the hungry baby formula has helped Earl. Sounds like an ambitious day of shopping you had planned- especially so close to xmas. Hope it went well!

Littlekitten- James is a cutie! No advice to give about his arm though- I'd talk to the doctor too. :hugs:

Chaos- glad to see you finally got some snow! :) Cute pics of Autumn! Hope you don't mind if I steal your Bumbo in the snow idea :)

Well, looks like the bumpkins are having a quiet day inside- this is the most posting activity on the weekend I've seen in a while, lol! Emma is having a nap in her wrap and I managed to get all my xmas gift wrapping done. Anyway, I should really get off the computer and do some xmas baking but can't get motivated- probably a good thing for the waistline though :) Hope you are all having nice weekends!

if i take harry out in the pram he sleeps for however long we're out for, then wakes up within seconds of getting through the door, and he's happy to sleep in the car too, but when it's just me & him, he just fights & fights it. he's not hungry, coz he comes off me happy or dozy & refuses more booby time, but if i put him down, within 10 mins, he's either wide awake & kicking away, which i dont mind, or he'll scream blue murder. which i do mind, lol. he only very rarely takes a dummy, but when he does, he'll doze, but when it falls out, he wakes up immediately & gets upset, but then refuses to keep it in again.
i tried him in the baby carrier, and he'll sleep in it so long as he's moving, but if i sit down, he wakes up.... it's like unless he's moving, he's not settled... or i have to swaddle him in the dark in my room o get him to sleep! :dohh:

it's such a contrast to the night when i can put him down awake after his feed & within 20 mins he's soundo & sleeps 10 hours straight with no issues!
