Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Colsy - It's not wrong to complain about your own LO. Earl has his moments lol He has developed a 'sad face' where before he starts to cry his bottom lip juts out and wobbles and he just looks so upset, like you've really hurt his feelings. It's funny at times but you just feel awful if you make him do it accidentally. Earl has been teething for a couple of weeks now I reckon....he has good days where you just wouldn't know, and some days like yesterday which must be agony for him and he's totally inconsolable. I've heard that they go in waves of about 2 weeks at a time. He also has days where you can't go more than 3 feet from him.....they are really quite annoying at the time but I try to remember that despite how long it may seem since he was born, he's still only tiny, and just wants him mummy/daddy.

Kte - Earl well and truly grew out of his pram about 2 weeks ago. (If I remember rightly you have the same as me....silver cross 3D) so he's now in the puschair and it does look cosy!

Helz - We still haven't had our jabs. Earl is now 10 weeks and it looks like it'll be a couple of weeks yet. I'm sure we'll get there eventually though.

Well....we weighed Earl last night. We were snowed in so couldn't get to clinic but according to our scales he's at least 15lb 8oz!! Lump!! He keeps on getting stronger though and is starting to try to reach for things...not particularly successfully at the moment lol....but you can see the cogs whirring. Bless him though, he gets so frustrated.

Not on for long...I'm off for a bath. Have a good evening ladies xx :hugs:

Well I had a lovely roast dinner cooked for me, dished it up and lo and behold screaming baby. So I ended up eating my dinner luke warm lol. Hes not a happy boy this last week again. Phoned the HV earlier cos he is getting quite alot of tummy ache again and his poo is horrible! Its dark green and has lumps of very pale green mucousy stuff in it. I think he was doing better cos there was less lactose but there is still too much. HV wants us to try him on lactose free milk cos I can't get a drs appointment til the 18th! Unfortunately none of our local chemists stock lactose free milk and so have to order it in and won't be able to get it til after the weekend. And they prefer to have a prescription. Great. Thanks. HV wanted us to have him on it over the weekend and bring him to clinic on Tuesday. Can't bloody well do that now. And they said under no circumstances are we to put him on soya formula cos its not recommended for babies now.

Hey, i'm so so so sorry for going awol AGAIN!

Me and Matt finally have our own place, wahoo! We moved in a few days before xmas, its perfect :cloud9: only a 2 bedroomed flat but it is just SO nice to have space of our own!!

Oscar is just amazing, love him to pieces! Hes in is own little room and sleeping through :happydance: so i'm very happy as before we moved out, he was waking 2-3 times in the night (mainly me and Matt being noisy as we had to live in my bedroom!).

He now weighs 14lb 2oz the little chubby chops, fully formula fed now as I just couldn't do it anymore  i'm gutted but hes seems alot happier now and Matt is enjoying sharing the feeds with me.

I hope your all well and that you all had a fabulous xmas and new year, gonna read back a few pages and catch up with you all!
Hopefully i'm back for good now :winkwink:

Evening girls!

Well I'm baby sitting a friends little girl tonight .. shes just shy of 2YO. She's pretty cool. A LOT heavier to lift out the bath than Autumn lol, I nearly put my back out doing it lol.

Today Autumn discovered that "Peek-a-boo" was TOTALLY hilarious. She was properly laughing! I'll have to see if I can get it on camera tomorrow.

Kte ~ Urgh what a jackass. He should go outside in the snow if he wants to pollute him self!!

LK ~ Jumparoos are awesome fun!

Hopedance ~ Glad Sam is doing well :)

Re baby wearing, cor I dunno how you do that all day lol. I have Autumn in her sling for 30 mins and the ol back is screaming at me!!
Please don't hate me when I say this lol, but I guess I'm uber lucky that I can just lay her on a play-mat and let her entertain her self while I get on with stuff. The only time she gets pissy is if she has filled her nappy, is hungry or if I keep her up past 7pm lol. (She has her fathers temperament for sure!!!)

Helz ~ Glad Ethan is doing better.

Amiee ~ Omg Autumn does that little dramatic bottom lip pout/wobble haha. I've been trying to catch it on camera!

Ok time to relax!

Morning Girls...

Thank goodness the schools finally open!?!?! LOL so much for the predicted 5in of snow, we only had a couple....

CC is still sniffly, I'm starting to pick up... All in all looking up... After such a good night sleep the night before, last night was a bit of a shock; 3 times she was up; poor little thing looks truely buggered this morning.... (makes me laugh though, she wakes for breakie; sit with us at the table all smiles and such; then goes to sleep about 9 ish....)

I don't wear a sling very often with her, if we are going veg shopping at the market; I tend to use it then... Only she's so heavy now, I can't do it for too lonng without my hips complaining loudly.... OH tends to wear it if he's with me... We seem to be using the pram more and more, I guess with the weather being so bad; she's snuggley warm with plenty of blankets (and a snow suit) Safer for her all round, I don't either of us would forgive ourselves if we fell with her...

CC is quite a happy contented chunky baby, mainly smiles and cuddles; late afternoon and evenings are when she feeds plenty and want's cuddles... Kinda make preping tea a challenge... We have spoilt her with cuddles etc over christmas etc but who's baby hasn't been? Just ment we've had to make a true effort to pop her into her chairs, cot, swing etc rather than keeping hold of her all the time...

OH still struggles to settle her, but at least he's trying now, even to the point of standing and swaying LOL... I guess it's because he wasn't around very much early on, then it was just easier for me to do it...

We're moving out of her room today, I feeling rather mixed about it; I like waking up/falling to sleep listening to her breath... But I also looking forward to not having to shhh when we go in there... All to be done once OH is back from taking MIL shopping... I'm not well enough to do that... (Not when he's at home anyway...)

Hope you're all well and the snow where you are isn't too bad...

From the description of the poo it sounds very unlikely to be due to lactose intolerance. A lactose intolerant baby has no consistency to its poo and its also not dark green. I find it hard to believe that you cant get an appointment for over 10 days. Doctors are meant to make an appointment available for a young baby. If your h/v is that keen for you to get the milk, either she can get a prescription from the gp on your behalf or call an make you an appointment.

Our h/v phoned and made an appointment for us, and we were seen later that day. If you are convinced James is lactose intolerant then I would demand an appointment today.

Morning all :D

MeggieMoo~ Congrats on the move :flower:

Hopedance ~ Glad to hear that Sam is doing well.

Chaos ~ He usually does and has done for months so I was really mad that he thought he could suddleny do it in the house :growlmad:

If Chloe is in a good mood I can usually pop her and leave her in the swing chair for a bit to entertain herself too. She needs playing with if she is on her mat as after 5 mins on her own she gets frustrated, I think she is still a bit too young at the moment to play on it by herself fully. Although she has grump / clingy days too.

Aimee ~ Yep we have the same one, Silvercross 3D. I do like it I just don't find enought excuses to use it at the moment. More excursions before I go back to work are needed!

I'm a little baffled by her last night / this morning. She went to sleep after a feed about 8.00. Normally she is wide awake and fussing until about 9.45 but last night she just slept. I took her up to bed at 9.00 and expected to wake at about 12.00 to feed her. Nothing! OH got up for work at 1.30 and Chloe was making her usual hungry wake up noises and chewing her hands. I got her out of her moses basket and tried to feed her but she just kept on spitting it back out. I did attempt to dream feed her but sneezed and woke her up! Anyway, she just kind of fell back asleep in my arms so I popped her back in her moses basket. She didn't wake up again until 4.30 and then only took 90mls, half of what she normally eats. We woke up about 7.30. Her last feed, about 8.30 she took 120ml, which is better but not her usual 180ml and she did the whole chew the teat and spit it out then drink, then chew the teat and spit it out. Hmmmm

Right, must finish my :coffee: and get some serious housework done before LO wakes up, may even get on the Wii for once?!? May have spoken too soon!

Rache83 - his brother, my sisters little girl, and OHs little girl all have lactose intolerance. My nieces poo was exactly the same as James's is now. He has seen a paediatrician for other things and she said it is very likely lactose intolerance. Spoke to HV who told us to put him on lactose free milk but we can't get it. I'm going to phone the HV again this morning.

Well its bloody snowing again now! I'm already stuck in the house, there are huge icicles hanging off the building lol. On the upside...James had a feed at 8.30pm, was in bed by 8.45pm and didn't have a feed til 6am!!! I am amazed!

LK - if the paediatrician thinks its likely then why havent they prescribed lactose free milk. Phoebe has a lactose intolerance and this has been confirmed by numerous tests, im suprised they havent tested James for it, seeing as he is being checked for everything else.

So true, Aimee. I often forget that it's actually only 12 weeks since Monty popped (well, was suctioned!) into the world. Sometimes it feels like much much longer, but really 12 weeks is hardly any time at all. Not sure we can describe Earl and Monty as "tiny" though!!! :)

Well, I don't know what happened! After my vigorous complaining that Monty had been an entirely miserable baby for three days, we went for a walk in the twilit snow yesterday, with Monty in OH's sling. He fell asleep, as he usually does in the sling. When we got home, I popped him down in his crib downstairs, still wearing his snowsuit! He then slept and slept. In the end we woke him up, something we usually hate doing because he complains. Anyway, he didn't complain, so we gave him a bath, and then he became an entirely different baby, laughing away on the bathroom floor, kicking his legs, smiling, all good stuff. We popped him into his hammock at 8pm, thinking we may well be in for another night of short bursts of sleep. I woke in the night, boobs about to explode. I waited a while, thinking Monty would wake soon, but nothing ... in the end, I had to go downstairs and express some milk as I couldn't handle the boob pain! Back to bed, expecting him to wake, but nothing. He finally woke at 8am! As I stuck my head in his hammock, he was full of smiles for me and then Daddy. How can he have changed so much in just those few hours?! Now I'm on a super-mission to apologise to him for complaining about him yesterday :dohh:

One query - does everyone else's baby look at them when they BF? Helz81 describes it and it sounds really lovely ... but Monty never looks at me and instead has this fixed stare at my cardigan button usually! I would love him to make eye contact as he BF. Is there anything I can do to encourage him to do this?

Rache83 - the paediatrician didn't prescribe lactose free milk cos he is already on low lactose milk and was doing better on it but I explained to her that he has been worse again over the week before we saw her. She wanted us to carry on with that milk for a bit longer cos we were supposed to have a drs appointment yesterday (which they cancelled cos of the snow and can't get us in until the 18th) and she said to get the gp to refer us to the paediatric dietician for them to decide which of the lactose free milks to give him. They havn't done the tests. I'm really not sure why. I think its because they are not always conclusive, some babies never show up as positive on those tests and the 3 kids in our family with lactose intolerance never showed up positive. 2 had negative results and 1 came back as inconclusive (had parts of the test come back positive but other parts negative). They were all put on lactose free milk as a trial to make sure it was or wasn't lactose intolerance and it was this that confirmed the lactose intolerance cos within a few feeds they were much much better. Basically the GP said it would be a waste of money to do the tests if they were unlikely to come back as true positive results (apparently the fact that our family don't get positive results means he is unlikely too also) so they trialed him on a low lactose milk. Literally within 2 feeds he was a completely different baby. All smiles and chatting. But over the last 2 weeks he is getting worse again. Crying lots. Pulling his legs up. Really smelly wind and horrid poo's.

Lk - as I said in earlier posts Low lactose milk doesnt make a difference. Phoebe had prescribed drops to remove the lactose from milk and it made no difference. It also takes longer than 2 feeds to reduce the lactose in the body. I would look elsewhere on the internet for where your getting your information from. Take it from me a mum who suffered for 9 weeks with a lactose intolerant baby, it takes 24-48 hours for the milk to take effect, and the happy smiley baby comes back 48 hours after the change in wind, feeding and nappies. You said in earlier posts that you had decided yourself to put James on cow and gate comfort as the gp said it was just colic. A lactose intolerant baby doesnt have weight increases like what James has been having, they are failure to thrive babies.

i hope he gets sorted soon as he sounds like a very sick baby :)

Rache83 - I'm not exactly sure what I have done to deserve that kind of reaction? Actually if you read my post properly the HV told me to put him on Cow and Gate Comfort. It was not my own decision. And I actually saw a different dr after the duty dr said it was colic after an emergency appointment where all she did was look at his ears and throat. I am not slating other professionals, I am simply pointing out what they said. I really don't think I deserved that kind of aggressive response to my post. Do you have any medical training yourself?

sorry didnt mean to offend, it came acorss wrong, I just thought you'd want some advice from someone who knows from experience, and yes I have medical training.

Yes I do appreciate advice. But I am just going on what my GP and HV have told me. I would love for it not to be lactose intolerance. Its hard enough having my DSS have it and having to watch every little thing we give him. They and the paediatrician now all seem to think that it is lactose intolerance. The GP said that it can be varying degrees of lactose intolerance (I have a wheat intolerance and mine is not as bad as some) and that it can last (in infants) anywhere from a few weeks, to a few months, to lifelong depending on the severity.

Wtf? Do you not think that LK is doing all she can to help her baby. She can only go as fast as her GP will allow her. I can understand the GP wanting to rule out other things, as frustrating as it is to LK.

This thread is a support thread to mothers who had babies born in October, I'm sure she don't appreciate someone who she has no idea who they are coming on and lecturing her and basically telling her she is doing everything wrong. You've certainly come across as arrogant regarding the subject.

I'm sorry your baby suffered for so long, and I'm glad its sorted out, but just because one way worked for you, it does not mean its the correct way for every baby out there. I'm sure LK does not need to feel any worse than she already is at her baby suffering.

Lawsy Mercy.

Mornin' Bumpkins!

Well I was vexed at 5am this morning when the local school system called to say the schools where running 2 hours behind due to inclement weather. I looked out the window, and not a bloody flake!! I wouldn't mind but I don't even have a kid of school age!!!

kte ~ That's great news about Chloe!! Hopefully its the start of sleeping thru the night! Sometimes Autumn wakes up in the middle of the nights with those sucking sounds, I natually thought she was hungry, but did the same as Chloe, eventually I figured out she was just looking for her dummy. I'd put it back in and she'd be right back off.

Colsey ~ Fabulous news! I'm glad he's feeling better.

Ok there's a toddler demanding raisin toast for breakfast lol. She's been a little angel over night. We all went for our after dinner walk, bathed her, put her down at 8pm and she just woke up at 8am! Of course I was up thru out the night going in to check her lol.

Ok loves, have a FAB day!

Chaos - James is like that too. Hes making waking up noises and eating his hands and I go in and put his dummy back in and before I can get back from the kitchen with the bottle he is sound asleep again. So now I just put his dummy back in and then go back to bed. If he is hungry he has his eyes open and will be grizzling again before I even get back to sleep.

Ive apologised on here regarding the tone of the comment, and I dont think there is a need for that kind of comment.

Tbh no I dont think she is, I have read some of her other posts and find them to be very contradicting. I did everything I could to get Phoebe seen and I certainly wouldnt have waited 10 days with a distressed baby to see a GP.

LK knows very well who I am. Granted I shouldnt have posted my feelings on here I should have just emailed her or pm'd her.
