To those of you who are using it, how often are you giving Infacol?

I've been giving it to Brady for a week now with his night feeds because he seemed windy and really straining to poo. It's definately working but I'm slightly wary of giving it to him all the time and wondered how much is ok to give them?

Hi everyone......finally able to get over here!
A piccy of Earl coming home...can't believe that he's that big in his infant carrier already!!

I'm giving it to Monty before every feed (he is totally breastfed). It's hard to say whether it's had any effect yet, as we only started using it three days ago. Monty is getting horrid colic almost every evening, which is why we've gone down the Infacol route. I'd much, much rather not use it, but even the queen of non-medical parenting, Gowri Motha, suggests trying Infacol - and to be honest, we are so desperate to relieve Monty's colic that we are prepared to try most suggestions at the moment. Seeing him in such pain is just awful - it breaks my heart to watch him having an attack and know that there's nothing I can do. We had a cranial osteopath appointment yesterday. He was good - we haven't seen any real results yet, but I do feel that the osteo was a very honest chap and he seemed to think a couple of sessions may well sort out any unresolved tensions in Monty's spine that are there as a result of my ventouse delivery. xx

He's really rather lovely, Aimee. Heaps of congrats to you and your hubby :) xx

We give James infacol with every feed. He just won't burp without it and he gets so uncomfortable he just screams. For him it worked immediately but I know for some babies it can take a couple of days.

Morning all :)

Hope everyone is having a nice morning. I'm sat here instead of getting ready to go out - oops! Really need to get my finger out. I'm hoping Romilly will settle enough for me to grab a quick shower while she naps. Not holding out a great deal of hope at the moment though :(

When she was weighed last week, Romilly had put on 5.5oz - she's now 7lbs 13.5oz :) HV was still moaning a bit about how she's feeding. She's very much a grazer - takes a couple of ounces every couple of hours. HV wanted us to try and push that out to at least 3 hours between feeds (which she does at night, it's just during the day she grazes). Tried it for a day, then just couldn't handle having to leave her crying for a feed - HV said "distract her", but how in the heck do you distract a hungry 3 week old baby? So we've said "sod that" and have gone back to demand feeding. It maybe means more hassle for us, but at least she's relatively happy.

Had her at the docs on um.. Wednesday, at the HV's request. Her oral thrush hadn't cleared up on the drops we were given, so HV wanted the doc to check it. We've now got a gel to rub on her tongue 4 times a day - that's a whole barrel of laughs! I just hope it clears it. The doc said it had ulcerated slightly at the back of her mouth/throat, which is most likely contributing to her feeding issues (well, what the HV feels is an issue) as she can only take so much before it gets uncomfortable. I know oral thrush is really common, and both the HV and doc have said to not feel guilty, it's nothing we've done, but I just feel so horrible that she's in discomfort. The doc also checked a little mark that had appeared on the inside of her thigh - turns out that's a birth mark. The HV had asked that the doctor also check her haematoma (cephalic haematoma?) on her head, as it hadn't gone down as much as the HV wanted. Seems that's still ok too, just Romilly's body has enough to deal with with the thrush :(.

Anyways, that's my moan over for the day  I'd best go and at least try to get myself organised... all good fun and games!

Have a nice day ladies!

Hi all, I think I might need to get infacol as Noah can take upto an hour to be fully burped, its much better now he's pooing well and he seems much better during the day.

I'm shattered as Dan was knocked off his bike yesterday so with a stiff body and a broken elbow he cant even hold Noah. It's quite upsetting for him as he's missing the daddy cuddles he normally gives.

My mum is coming tonight as ive started bleeding more and im concerned its due to me doing more for Noah. Will ask midwife when she arrives. Not used to her being so late she normally comes before 10am.

For people bfing hw long are your LO's feeding for and then how long between each feed?

Anyone heard from Chaos recently? I guess she must be really busy with Autumn & her her relatives visiting her, lol. :)

How's everyone doing?
Dom: I've been giving Harry infacol before his 'boobie feeds' just at night time, and that seems to be working fine for him at the moment. During the day I have more time to wind him properly, so I'm not giving it during the day just yet, as he seems ok without it, but at night, he can scream like a girlish cat-thing & it goes right through you and I get paranoid the neighbours will complain, so the infacol definitely is helping him bring the wind up quicker, which in turn helps him settle back to sleep quicker too.

I had a manic day of looking at houses yesterday. Found 1 we really like & that doesn't need much work doing to it either, which is a bonus. Also got offered mortgages everywhere we went coz of the inheritance my OH received on monday (at last, lol) that we're using as our deposit- each of the mortgage people were like, 'wow, yeah, we can give you a mortgage!!!!' was kinda funny how differently banks treat you when they suddenly realise you have some money.... *grrrrr*
And Harry, at 3 weeks 3 days old is now officially richer than me (and we only opened his savings this last week, lol) and my OH's ridiculous mother has already bought him 2 shetland ponies called wallace & Grommit for when he's bigger!!!!!!!!! (what the hell does a 3 week old need with 2 horses I ask????!!!!)

I have a few questions for you ladies:
How often do your LOs wake at night? I feed Harry at 10pm ish, when we go to bed, then he usually wakes anywhere between 2 & 5 for another feed, then again when my OH gets up for work (noisy git!) at about 7:30am. I worry I should be feeding him more often than this, or is this ok? I totally forgot to ask the HV/MW on monday, lol.
Do your LOs suffer from hiccups at all? Harry gets 2-3 bouts of hiccups a day & sometimes they shound soooo painful. He doesn't cry from them, but the look on his little face breaks my heart as he looks so upset & shocked & like he's hurting from them... Nothing I seem to do for him helps them go away & they can last up to 30minutes sometimes. Is this normal or should I be worried?
Finally, anyone else's babies go cross-eyed sometimes when they try to look at things close up? I'm sure it's normal, but just wanted to check & make sure Harry isn't weird or anything, lol.

Anyways..... Oh, actually, another Q: at what age do babies smile? (not from wind, but a proper smile) Harry smiles from wind quite a lot, but i'm curious as to when is average for him to do it by choice as a happy reaction to something?????

I managed to get a cute little pic of him when he was having cuddles with daddy the other night after I'd fed him. When I look at it, I melt, lol.

florabean - my brother slept through the night at 2 weeks so its fine. James sleeps from 10ish til 3ish, then wakes at 5ish for a top-up, then sleeps til 9ish.

James also gets hiccups. I don't think they hurt, more so annoying. Gets them sometimes once a day, sometimes 4 or 5 times a day.

Its perfectly normal for them to go cross eyed at this stage, The muscles in their eyes are weak and they can't focus poperly. I'm sure James spends more time cross eyed than not lol.

As for smiling they start smiling at roughly 4-6 weeks although some babies are later than this.

Hope that helps!

Hey Flora- it's interesting to see what "routine" Harry has for nighttime since Emma is the same age and we're also BFing. Lately she has fed around 10pm, again sometime around 2am, between 4-5am (when hubby gets up for work too) and then around 7am. She usually has a longer nap in the morning too. Yesterday was a bit of an off day- it felt like she was feeding all day, had her last feed at midnight and then slept until 5am- even though the day was hellish, it was like getting a proper night sleep!!! :) Emma also suffers from hiccups and had a bout in the doctors office this week- doc didn't seem too concerned but I hate watching her suffer from them too. Emma hasn't gone cross-eyed when focusing but I think I remember reading that is normal within the first month or two. Likewise, I think I read about a month is when the smiling starts, but I'm sure I've seen her smile already- usually when we are singing songs and doing silly kisses on her cheek.

I'm glad I finally found the October mum's thread- all the little ones are beautiful! Funny that we all seem to be having problems with our babies burping :) Doesn't seem to be affecting Emma's desire to feed and weight gain so far- she was 8lbs 13 ozs at birth and at her 3 week check up on Tuesday she weighed 11 lbs 4 ozs!! No wonder my chubby monkey is fitting some of her 6 mth sized sleepers!

Anyone dressing their babies up for Halloween tomorrow? My mum bought Emma a monkey costume so we'll dress her up and take her over to my parents so they can take a few photos.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day :)

Hi ladies

I'm breastfeeding too and, at the moment, its going really well:happydance:
Aidyn was weighed at 5 days old on Sunday and he had dropped from 9lb6oz to 8lb12oz, midwife weighed him again yesterday at 9 days old and he was back up to 9lb5oz, so I am really pleased.

Aidyn tends to feed at about 11pm then sleeps till somewhere between 3.30 and 5am then back to sleep til anywhere between 7am and 9am, I am really happy with this as it means I am only having to get up to him once in the night and then I'm up with the other 2 from 7 anyway.

As for the hiccups, we get loads of them, he always did when he was inside me too, bless him!!

Aidyn has a cute little halloween babygro to wear when he go out tomorrow, DS1 is been a skeleton and DS2 a pumpkin (he doesnt like scary things:dohh:)
We are going to various members of the families houses in the afternoon with them all and then DH will take DS1 & 2 out in our road in the evening, they are only allowed to go to people that we know houses though.

Have a good day ladies, my peace has just been shattered by the return of the 2 big horrors:dohh:

Hi everyone

At last - I couldnt figure out where this thread was for ages!

How is everyone doing? Can you believe our bumps are now babies? Being two weeks overdue now seems like a blur....

Can't believe Cailean is now 12 days old - where does the time go?! I am still managing to BF so far....was ready to throw the towel in last night but think I might have been missing the signals. He slept from 12 noon until 4pm and had to pretty much wake for a feed (although I've had conflicting advice about whether to do that or not!)

But between 4pm and midnight it felt like I was constantly feeding, changing or soothing and my breasts were sore.....was just about to jump out the window when decided to bring him in bed with us and he ended up sleeping 1am-6am!?! Has anyone else done co-sleeping and any thoughts on it? Dont want to get into the habit of doing this as worried about long term consequences but also really need my sleep! (particularly as on iron for another 4 weeks as lost a litre of blood when he was born!)

Hi everyone,
Can I join in with you please? Had my little boy Bobby, weighing 7lbs 5oz, on 17th October. He is so perfect :cloud9: (I know I am biased!)

Have been breast feeding and so far seems to be going really well. Had a couple of days where Bobby was really suffering with wind but infacol seems to have sorted that! He is now such a content baby, we have been very lucky!

Anyway hope you are all getting on well with your new LO's!

Flora, he's gorgeous! Lovely pic.

Brady gets horrible hicups about 2-3 times a day, always at about 8 in the evening which is the same as when I was pregnant and then normally at other times through the day. I haven't really found a way to stop it, although in the evening I normally hold him sitting up on my lap on a pillow and they dont seem to last as long.

Pootle - I'm having the same questions about co-sleeping at the moment, I've had a few really unsettled nights with Brady, last night he was waking up every 2 hours wanting feeding and then he wouldn't settle back to sleep. The only time he seems to settle is in my bed, i fell asleep with him in bed the night before last after he had a bottle at 2 am, when I woke up I put him back in the Moses basket and shortly after he woke up wanting feeding again, i thought it was only just after his last feed but when I looked at my phone it was 6am! I just want to find out if there is a safe way of doing it if it is what he needs right now.

Think I'm going to have to get Brady back on the water this evening, he hasn't pooed since yesterday morning at 5am :(

hi everyone! i lost track of what was going on in the old thread as i spent lots of time in hospital with Sam so didn't get much online time. I can't believe I was the first bumpkin to give birth!!! Sam is 12 weeks old now (i think? i keep muddling it in my head!), he was 7lbs 13oz at last weigh in, he seems huge as he was only 3lbs 4oz at birth and 5lbs 6oz at discharge from hospital.

are any of you other preemie mums breastfeeding? sam was on almost all formula when he was discharged from hospital but i just switched to fully breastfeeding him and am finding it a bit rough due to lack of sleep. i really wish i could lend my husband my breasts...

edited to add - about the co-sleeping issue, i have a snugglenest to put in bed between my and OH's pillow, and it helps loads. here's the link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Summer-Inf...f=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby&qid=1256920563&sr=8-1

if the link doesn't work, google summer infant snuggle nest.

Hi Ladies!

Finally I'm here! Found you all...

I too am bfeeding... Seems to be going reasonably well, 1 nipple better than the other, but hey no pain no gain... Must remember it's breast feeding not nipple feeding!!! Those who are finding you've sore, nipples try a cabbage leaf in your bra and/or rubbing some breast milk on them... Have to watch madam, as she keeps using boob as a dummy! Won't entertain a dummy tho! oh well..

Oh well best go start tea! Hope you all get a good night sleep...

hopedance, glad Sam is doin well :)

mummy l: hello, great to have you here :hi:

have another Q: for those of you BFing- anyone notice you LOs poo less since using infacol? harrys gone from pooing about 6-8 imes a day to only 3-4 times a day... is that normal???

jlo- that is a sweet pic of Aidyn :) I wish Emma would learn to find her thumb- she won't use a pacifier and I'm not always keen on whipping out a boobie to soothe her!

Pootle33 and dom85- I've resorted to a couple of nights of co-sleeping too. I didn't want to, but it was a last resort on day 5 of breastfeeding when she refused to settle at night and I've done it a few times since. Here's a link to the handout that they gave me in the hospital about co-sleeping: https://www.babyfriendly.org.uk/pdfs/sharingbedleaflet.pdf
Can't say it was super helpful, but there it is anyway. There have been a few threads about co-sleeping in the natural parenting section of BnB too. I figure that as long as I can do it safely but she doesn't get in the habit of wanting to sleep with me, it's all good since I'm more likely to stick with BFing.

I have been using infacol but cant say I have noticed any less poop yet!! Does Harry doesn't seem uncomfortable or even more full of wind? If not I would say all is ok xxx

Sounds strange, but he's definitely less windy (or at least I think he is) but seems a bit uncomfortable if that makes sense, especially when I touch his belly & when I change him. He only did 2 little poos the whole of today, spent most of it squinnying & didn't sleep much either, but then his daddy gave him a 3oz bottle of expressed milk at 10pm tonight & winded him afterwards & the little bugger was all content & relaxed, was changed & put down in his moses basket & was asleep in seconds!!!! I was like, 'I've been trying to get him to do that all day now you waltz in & do it in no time dammit!'
My dad said that when I was a baby, I was a little horror during the day for my mum, to the point where she was shouting at me & crying, wanting to smother me, lol and he'd walk in after work, pick me up & I was miraculously an angel for him. It drove her crazy, lol.
Maybe Harry just likes his daddy time & gets fed up being with me all the time?
I can;t complain though really, coz generally speaking, Harry is brilliant, but today was just an off day for the both of s. Here's hoping he sleeps well through the night, does a bitg poo & is in a better mood tomorrow...
I never thought I'd be wishing my child to poo more, hehehehe!

On a good note, I found some lovely little clothes in the sale section in Tescos- was really impressed & got some teeny jeans, a hoody sleepsuit, a halloween skeleton sleepsuit, a robot t-shirt, a stripey sleepsuit & a cute halloween bib too. And then I indulged myself & bought the Alien Vs Monsters dvd :) (big kid at heart I am)

Good night lovely ladies :)
