Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

hey all :) How goes everything?

Still super busy with the house here; got the electrician here today putting in new & exytra plug sockets in every room as each room, for some reason, only had one socket & were all in really random places, away from where all our stuff is, lol. (inconvenient or what?!) More money!!!! :dohh:

Got Harry weighed on weds; he's now 10lbs 14oz, so still kinda little, but he's very long comparitively... his legs are starting to outgrow the 0-3 stuff, but they swamp his arms & body, bless him.

Colsy, re sleep: Harry is almost impossible to get to sleep during the day, but he's getting better- he has a nap on my lap in the mornings for about 20-30mins at about 10am (he gets up about 7:30am) then he's awake all day, where I spend all day trying to wear him out with play (he has a musical kicker arch which he LOVES) & on his play mat & in his new dorr bouncer, which really tires him coz he goes mental in it & squeals his heart out smiling, lol... I usually put him down for a nap late afternoon, where he now sleeps for just over an hour, but never more than 90mins. In the late evening he has veryt short power naps after each feed (about 10mins at a time, then wants feeding again as he cluster feeds then) then at 9pm, we put him to bed properly. He used to sleep the whole night, but he now wakes anytime between 3am & 5am, feeds, burps, gets changed, then feed again till he's asleep, & I put him back down in his moses basket until he wakes up when OH goes to work at about 7:30-8am. I would love for him to sleep more during the day, but purely for my own peace n quiet, lol!!!

Has anyone else missed their injection dates? Harry was meant to have his 2nd lot of jabs on 7th jan, but coz of the snow, we couldnt get there. They only just sent the new date to me & his 2nd lot of jabs have been booked for 4th feb, so he'll be like 4mths!!! I wish they were quicker with these things...

Re teething: Harry now has a hard, pointy lump on his upper left side, so I'm thinking it'll cut through within the next few weeks; he is chewing his fingers like crazy, so I bought those tommee tippee gummy things. He hasn't quite got the concept of holding it in his mouth himself, but if I hold it for him, he chews it happily, making little growling noises; so cute! I have started using the bonjela teething gel, but I dont think he likes the taste as he really screws his face up when he has it. I am kinda considering buying one of those amber teething necklaces for him to see if it helps?

Are ppl thinking about beginning weaning their babies soon? Harry has just this week become fascinated with watching ppl eat n drink; he has this look that's like a cross between questioning & amazement, lol. I'm thinking of offering him some organix baby rice at about 20 weeks I think, but I'm unsure as to whether I should wait until 6mths or not... It seems a bit of a minefield to me. OH is planning to make all our own baby food coz he hates the idea of Harry having jars when we have perfectly good fruit n vege in the fridge at half the cost & twice the taste, lol. I'll believe him when I see him making it, rather than just talking about it!!!!

anyways, better go as I need to pee before little dude wants more food. Hope everyone's ok. :)

a couple of pics of Harry that make me melt, hehe. :)

Afternoon all :D

Re Sleeping
Chloe sleeps as and when, some days she naps more than others. Im quite lucky that she just kind of settles down herself, usually after a feed. On the flip side she doesn't sleep through so much at night though, well she has a good 7-8hrs usually but then I feed her 90ml at around 4am then again at 6am-ish. She may decided its wake up time then or I get to kip until 8.30 latest! The only main thing I have noticed is that we can have an hour in the mornings doing anything until she gets hungry, even if she woke up hungry she waits to eat! That is unless I change her nappy and dress her, then she wants food asap after!

Re Weaning
I'm (we are) hoping to hold out until 6 months with Chloe. She does watch us but I think its more interest in what we are doing rather than what we are eating! She seems very happy on the hungry baby milk, still taking up to 6oz / 180ml max a time but she doesn't always drain a bottle each feed. If she did seem hungrier earlier then we may reconsider but at the moment she is fine and dandy! She chews on her hands (mitts!) all the time, so much so we pop a dummy in her mouth sometimes, I'm more worried that she will get random things in her mouth as she grabs my hair a lot now and there has been some stuck in her hand which I worry will get into her mouth!

Re Teething
Lol Flora, Chloe hates the taste of the bonjela too, the looks on her face, she usually has a mini cry sometimes when I pop it on. I have to hold in the teether gummy things too! I can't detect which tooth is giving her gip yet though but her gums do look sore sometimes.

Re Jabs
We booked the 2nd lot of jabs for Chloe at the end of her first appointment. She has them this coming Tuesday :nope: not looking forward to that one at 9.20am. OH was with me last time, I have to brave it alone this time. May pop in at 9 and get her weighed. She was weighed at the hospital on Monday and weighed 14lbs (can't remember oz off top of my head, bad Mummy!) but haven't been to baby clinic for such a long time! Its a good job we got them booked in though, I got a letter asking me to do it 2nd week of Feb, I think they have to be spaced apart quite accurately but can't remember exactly how many weeks, plus who knows if its that correct info I have been given as most HV in different counties sing off a different hymn sheet!

(FloraAdorable pics of Harry too:D)

I really wish they would make a hungry baby lactose free milk! I don't really want to wean him and am holding out another 2 weeks at least cos he is not quite 15 weeks yet. But I really can't see him going another 2 months! He is a nightmare atm.

Flora - OMG he is such a cutie!

LK, my nephew is lactose intolerant & was on prescription lactose free milk; i believe it was called nutramingen or something like that- all i remember is that we used to call it the 'minging milk' lol. He was a very hungry baby too, but when he was put on that, the difference was unbelievable.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend :) We're having a nice quiet one here- beautiful sunny sky so I think a walk might be in order.

Flora- cute pics of Harry! Emma has an amber teething necklace and I think it actually works. I bought it since I'm willing to try anything that helps us avoid medicating her but I really didn't expect it to work. Within about 10-15 min the red patches on her cheeks disappeared and for the past week since putting it on her, although she still chews on her hand, she hasn't been fussy and hasn't been crying out in pain as she chews on her hand.

LK- We are planning to wait until 6 months to wean Emma. She likes to sit with us at meals but isn't showing any interest in food. We plan to do BLW so she's not ready yet. Hope you find a solution for your hungry little guy :)

Colsy- Emma usually only sleeps about 12 hrs/day too. She's not much of a napper either. Re: growth spurts, it's totally possible he's having another- Emma seemed to be on one crazy long one from New Years until a couple days ago, lol. I wish they could just tell us, "hey mum, just wanted to let you know to clear your calendar since I've decided to feed like crazy this week/month..." From reading some of the posts in the BF forum and baby club, looks like lots of babies have massive growth spurts at 3 &4 mths so I wouldn't be surprised if they can run into one another a bit. We BF too and Emma is just a few ounces shy of 20 lbs now. The doctor knows that we BF on demand and she's not at all concerned about her size since she isn't fat- just tall and solid :) As the doctor said, she'll probaby plateau once she is mobile and burning more calories and also once she starts being weaned since those foods will be less calorie dense. Hope Monty gives you a break soon :hugs:

Kte- do you guys get jabs at 2 & 3 months? We get them at 2, 4 & 6 months here. I guess it's different depending on where you live

Well, I better get going if I'm going to get out for a walk while it's still nice out- just heard on the weather network we have freezing rain headed this way- yuck...

Florabean - The dr prescribed us SMA LF cos its cheaper I think. He rather likes it and hes already been on 3 different milks so I think I will just leave him on this one. Today he has been feeding every 2.5 hours so I am hoping he is just having a growth spurt and will settle down again. Was eating a banana earlier and he was absolutely fascinated so I rubbed my finger on a bit that was mashed and let him taste it. You would think I had given him nectar! He loved it and kept shouting at me for more. I let him have 2 tiny tastes and then didn't let him have any more cos I don't want to give him too much yet.

Kaites ~ I have looked in my little red book that we get over here! It says 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks so yeah 2 months, 3 months & 4 months for jabs then that is it until 12 months.

Evening all,

Sudden burst of posts on here - I hope I can remember all my responses lol

Jabs - Earl didn't have his first set until 12 weeks. I've got an appointment for his 2nd but that didn't take into account his first set being delayed so I'm going to have to re-do that one too. He'll be 20 weeks by the time he's finished.

Teething - Earl has good days and bad days but he's got a few lumps appearing and all his gums are solid now. I swear he's going to have a mouth full of teeth by 12 months lol :dohh:

Weaning - I'm going to push for 6 months, or at least 24 weeks, as I desperately want to BLW - I think it will be so much better for Earl and for us as it will fit into our routine brilliantly. However, if at about 20 weeks he is showing some signs I may introduce some porridge for 4 weeks (not going near baby rice - horrid stuff!!)

What else? Errmmmmm ah yes!

Flora - lovely pics. It sounds like you're doing well with the house. I'm dreading us moving but it's going to be nice to be out of this house!!!!

Colsy - don't worry about Monty's weight. Earl is a bit like Emma (although she's romping home on the weight stakes now lol) - at 12w2d he weighed 16lb 9oz! I know he's FF which is slightly different but he eats very regularly and his appetite has plateau'd quite nicely at 43oz a day! Eeeeek! When we went for his check up at 7 weeks the Dr just said he's 'above average' and the HV at the clinics just say he's solid. Growth spurts are also non-existent for Earl....he's just has the odd day off growing lol. So it's quite possible that Monty is just having a blast at some growth ready for causing havoc and mayhem in a few weeks! lol

Good weekend for us! Friday was a 'new start' day for Hubby. He quit smoking and sent off his UCAS application! :happydance: Bring on the student-dom! lol I can't wait for him to get it sorted out. I'm so proud of him!

We're selling my SCUBA gear and it looks like we'll be getting a pretty penny which should cover hubby's next set of courses and a new BCD. Expensive business this SCUBA diving! lol

In other news lol.......not a lot is going on bar the fact that I have gone off ALL sweet things including chocolate. It's going to do wonders for my figure but it means I actually have to eat something 'proper' at mealtimes as I have also gone off pizzas, tinned soup and all sorts of 'sugary' foods. They all taste weird lol I'm gutted!!

Anyhoo's - Earl is in bed, and I'm going to hand the laptop over to hubby and then head up to bed with a cuppa and some cheese on toast lol

Have a nice evening ladies and sorry for the essay!

aimee, my OH is a diver works in the diving industry, so if you want some bargains on a new BCD (or anything else for that matter) PM me & I'll see what he can do for you :) He's going for a new job at Suunto (the dive computer makers) next month & if he gets it, he'll be the UK sales rep... finger's crossed, coz if he gets the job, I'll never have to work again!!! (woohoo)

Evenin' Loves,

It's raining freaking cats and dogs here at the moment, there's all flooding and tornado warnings in effect. yay.

Ok, lets catch up! (Man, I've been slacking!!!!)

Kte ~ That's great about Chloes 8 hours! Sorry your bum is .. um .. being a pain in the bum :( My friends little 3 week old has this too, bless her little heart :(

LK ~ Could you please send Earl to educate Autumn of this mythical 9am hour? She sleeps 6p to 6a :( :( I mean, don't get me wrong I LOVE the 12 hours, but I wish she'd want to go to bed a bit later and sleep a bit later lol.
I've starting weaning, will write more after I've caught up regarding that.

Aimee ~ Autumn is the same with her toys, She has rattles, flashy things, teethers .. what does she play with all the time? This little floppy lion that has that crinkly sounding belly. She LOVES that thing. God help me if I leave it behind when I go out lol.

Sam ~ Oh I'm jealous of the swim classes. Swimming pool prices work very different over here from home, its like 110 bucks for 16 lessons. FAR too expensive. I can't wait till it warms up and we can take Autumn to the neighbourhood pool. We're going to Florida in April, so can test her out then. She LOVES the water, I actually think she's part mermaid. :dohh:

Nij ~ Aww @ waking you up ;) Suck it up, Daddy!!

Maffie ~ Gawd what a wench!! Why was she swearing at you? Did she want to use it too?

Colsy ~ Re sleep. Autumn will sleep 6p to 6a. She'll then nap from about 9 to 10. Cat nap for about 30 mins at mid day. Then about 2, she'll sleep a good 2 hours. Then bed at 6 or 7.

Flora ~ Booby juice pic is awesome! :)

Ok, regarding weaning. I started Autumn on apple sauce a couple weeks ago. I really wanted to wait till 6 months, but she is on 4, 8oz bottles a day, WITH rice added in and she's still not satisfied. In fact the thing that made me decide to start her on mush stuff, is she dropped from 4 to 5 hours between bottles, to 2 or 3.

Well she just LOVES apple sauce. When she sees me get it out the fridge and walk over to her she starts laughing and shaking her arms haha. Tonight I decided to try her on green beans first, she liked that, so then (while sitting in her high chair) I gave her some apple sauce for pudding. (this was all after her bottle, as I read you should offer solids when they are not so hungry)

Would you believe the little moo took the spoon off me and started putting it in her mouth her self?!

It obviously tastes better smeared all over her face, bib and table haha.

Well after we cleaned her up, she passed out on the sofa for 30 mins, to which Murphy finally decided, after 16 weeks, he quite likes her haha

One more first for her this week was her first time in the "big swing" she flipping LOVED it!!!

Ooh Ooh thanks Flora. We actually met on our Open Water course in 2006 and we've hardly been since due to money/time/lack of enthusiasm lol but I just had to admit defeat the other day as I am not as 'into' it as hubby so I said he could sell my stuff (complete set) to go towards him doing it. He's hoping to get to at least Divemaster. I will PM you later as someone wants to buy my BCD so I'll know what we have to spend soon lol.

Good luck to him about the job....my hubby is a big fan of his Gekko!

Chaos - I will send James to educate Autumn if I can come too hehe. OMG Autumn is such a sweetheart! Loving the apple sauce everywhere. I gave James a tiny bit of banana yesterday and he loved it! Kept yelling at me for more but I was too nervous to give him too much lol. Going to have to start him on more soon. He is only 12lb something and should be on 5 x 5oz bottles. He is taking 4 x 6oz bottles and a 7oz bottle at bedtime. And he totally finishes it and looks for more. He sloshes when you pick him up yet he is still eating your shoulder, his muslin, anything he can get near his mouth lol.

Well after the hellish start to bedtime last night he slept amazingly well and didn't even stir at all til 6.30am (normally stirs for dummy action at around 2am, 6.30am and 7.30am, think its me disturbing him getting up to pee the first 2 times lol) and was straight back to sleep when I shhh'd him. I was shocked cos he'd been in so much pain before bed. He is sat watching Baby Room now lol.

Morning all,

Chaos~ I am amazed by Autumn each and every time I see her! I cant believe she even wanted to do the spoon bit herself too!! Seems like your going to have your hands full when she gets more mobile the inquisitive little madam! She is adorable :)

Chloe is trying to have her morning nap but she isn't too happy today, not quite sussed what it is. She still had an hour doing things with me but first thing she woke up upset and nap time now she was again. It may be her gums again maybe but I think she may have an upset tummy, her breath smells of sour milk!

Hi girls,

I've added some dates to the 'Bumpkins in the North' thread for our Meadowhall trip.

Golly afternoon ladies...

I'm so tired, had to admitte defeat and called the gp; been and seen. Gotta try another contraceptive pill, for the last month and a half I've had 5 days bleeding 3 days stopped and 5 days bleeding and so the cycle continues... I feel so drained...

CC is still bfing which is good, I was reading the cow & gate info about weaning; as I weaned DS at 3 months... CC is still feeding very well, but was wonder shen to start as she's constantly chewing her hands and watches us so obsessively when we're eating; and must be fed when we've finished eating or sometime half way through LOL... The info in the cow & gate stuff is not to start until LO is over 17 weeks... Thought you'd all like that bit of info...

Gonna take CC to weights and meassures tomorrow as OH convinced she's grown lots over the past 2 weeks as her nappies are getting tighter to do... Got the next ones all ready to use...

As for CC sleeping, it's rather up and down at the moment; sometimes she sleeps all night other days she doesn't... Generally we can get a couple of hours in the evening from about 9 ish, then she'll sleep from 11.30 -12 - 1am ish until 6 - 7 or 8 ish, dose for a while until 9 - 9.30 ish and then maybe just maybe an hour after lunch... After that is anyone's guess. Might snuggle in for a snooze whilst being cuddled but that doesn't last long... We are just going with the flow, as long as she's smiling and giggling when she wakes I'm honestly not worried how long she's awake for come the afternoon...

OH is sending me such mixed messages about me returning to work, one breath he want me to stay at home, next breath he doesn't, I'm so confused? LOL I'm still hoping to stay away until Sept, go back until after the next pregnancy which we're planning to start trying for next January; and then after the next birth then I may just be a Stay at home Mummy... LOL Sounds like a plan... Don't forget all good plans are subject to change...

DS is liking me at home, but he's being such a little sod! Even told my sister she was fat yesterday... Ok so she's as tall as she is wide LOL it's in the genetics LOL I'm tall and stocky and she's small and round we both just follow different sides of the family... Had a conversation with DS about it; he called my sister to apologise as he wanted to and then ended up in tears... He said he was so disapointed with himself.... So far he's tall and stocky... Could soon change...

Right enough of me and mine... Hope you're all well... And managing to get enough sleep and do what you feel needs doing... I've finally managed to catch up on the laundry from Christmas... And the cycle starts again...

Florabean ~ Just had a thought Annabel Karmel and Dr Miriam Stoppard do fantastic weaning recipes... Used both when DS was little, I started weaning him on cow & gate powdered food and then introduced normal food into the powder as I felt he wasn't eating enough to justify all the 'messing' about... I'm planning to do the same this time around too...

Well I am feeling horrible right now. I emailed my boss this morning to say that I was coming back to work at the end of Feb cos thats when I thought my mat leave ran out. Well just got an email back from her saying that its actually the 1st I am due back! But have 2 weeks of annual leave which I can take so can start back on 15th :(

LK - how much maternity have you taken? doesnt seam like you have taken a long time TBH (I know Kte has not had long, but that was down to not wanting to go onto SMP)

Chaos - Autumn looks very happy in the swing, I cannot wait to take Chloe to the park etc........ And yeah waking me up is never clever when I have 5 hours sleep at best and then go and drive my wagon at 2am lol

Aimee - I have put the dates on then Kte, Chloe and myself are free.

LK - how much maternity have you taken? doesnt seam like you have taken a long time TBH (I know Kte has not had long, but that was down to not wanting to go onto SMP)

not wanting . . . more like cant afford to!

Thanks for the meet update Aimee

Eswift, hope you get your wish to be a SAHM :flower:

LK ~ that really really sucks :( :hugs: Wish I could suggest something but I have no clue.

It winds me up how some work places don't really support people on Maternity leave, mind you I suppose it's the government too. I hate the way they say 'you can have a whole year off' . . . yeah right!
