Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Chaos those pics of autumn are freaking awesome!!! :)

Eswift; totally coinsidence, but OH bought the annabel karmel recipe book online today!!! We also got a book on BLW too, as OH has been secretly researching it, lol. Had a big chat with him last night & we're both agreeing to wait till Harry's 6mths to wean, try BLW & homemade oragnic recipes ourselves... We are also gonna stick with BFing 95% of the time, with the occasional FF when out & about or if I'm feeling poorly or something, as i only seem to be able to get about 2oz at a time when pumping, which is frustrating for me & when he has ebm, his poo goes green from too much foremilk :dohh:

i bought a peanut shell baby sling today & wore it for 10 mins & harry fell asleep straight away!!! Man I wish I'd bought one sooner, lol. We also got a bumbo equvalent called a bebepod in blue & white & he loves that too. He's stretching his feeds out a little bit more now too this week, & seems more settled so i'm thinking we're over the 3mth growth spurting at last.

Chaos, Harry has a red channeal (sp?) monkey toy that he is literally obsessed with. he chats to it, shoves it in his gob & rubs his thumb n forefinger in it coz he likes the material. keeps him occupied for ages! the kid has a cot full of toys atm, so we're gonna buy a toy hammock & some shelves to accommodate them, lol.

has anyone got their bookstart bag pack yet??? the library says i have to ask my hv for it.

I heard Chloe giggle twice tonight, I wish I could say it was at me but she was gooing over the fireplace! I shouted Nij but she only gave out 2 giggles so lets hope we get a few more tomorrow!

Had some people round to organise the Christening which is this coming Sunday, I'm really looking forward to it. Argh, tomorrow it's jabs so lets hope it doesn't upset her too much, I'm up for cuddles for the rest of the day tomorrow so may not be on much if it all depending on how she is. Wed outfit shopping for Sunday and Thurs' I have my Mum over. Friday work then I get to enjoy the weekend, family coming up and that ready for Sunday, busy busy busy!

Flora ~ Chloe was given a Prince Lionheart Bebe Pod, its green and white, it's over at the in-laws and we never really used it up until now, we left it there without thinking but we want to bring it back over. It looked massive but when I popped Chloe in it she fit perfectly, she loved it!

I didn't know about the bookstart stuff so I googled it and found this:
Bookstart Baby packs are usually delivered to families by health professionals at health contacts before the baby's first birthday.
Website is https://www.bookstart.org.uk

Evening All!! :flower:

Calling all Bumpkins in the North of England - We have a choice of 2 dates for a possible meet. Sunday 28th February, or Sunday 14th March. Let me know if you would like to come/can make it or come over to the thread. Looks like we're off to Meadowhall

Kte - Awww to Baby giggles :happydance:. Earl giggled properly for the first time on Saturday at Hubby - hubby was laughing so hard back that he hyperventilated. It was so cute and I have managed to get at least 1 a day since! Good luck with planning the Christening. We were planning on having one sometime in his first year but we may be moving so we don't know where we'll be. Once we move we've said we're going to start going to church more often so we'll start it with a christening lol.

I can't believe that Earl is 3 months tomorrow. He's growing up so fast lol. He's still not really very co-ordinated but he's getting there lol. Does anyone know when to expect my life to become mayhem as anything that's not nailed down becomes covered in slime? (his nickname at the moment is slimer lol)...I've been told anytime from 12-17weeks.....bit of a wide bracket lol. I'm not worried as I know he'll get there eventually lol. He's sitting up really well lately, almost to the point where you think you could let go....you can't but still. He goes flat onto his face if you do....not that I've tried  lol

What else? Hmmmmmm not a lot lol. Been a bit boring really, I have been trying to figure out how I'm going to get Earl to nap on his own. Gave it a go this afternoon and he went straight to sleep on his own! Was brilliant and gives me hope that it wont be too hard. I'm hoping to start by doing it one nap at a time lol - I enjoy the cuddles too much.

Anyhoo's Eastenders then Cheesy Bean pie with sausages for tea followed by jam roly poly with custard.....comfort food of the highest order. Just hope I can eat the jam roly poly! :nope:

Have a good evening ladies xx

Nij - I have to go back cos I can't afford to go onto SMP. Especially now I am on my own. So off to work I go. Will have had 5 months grr.

Well I am amazed. James was bathed, fed and asleep in his moses by 7.45pm!!!

Evening all

I was given my bookstart pack when I went to register Noah.

Noah as thrush again, I cant believe how much he's getting it. He's very good at giggling now I just love watching him.

Morning All...

Maffie ~ DS ended up with thrush lots and lots, in the end one of the dr's gave me a huge tube of cream to put in his mouth when it flared up... LOL after that he never had it... By then he was on bottles and Formular, I had been steam sterilising; I changed to tablet sterilising and the thrush went away...

I'm still so very tired, CC had a very good night sleep only woke once for a feed; however the dog was a pain in the backside. God only knows what he was trying to kill, in the end I went down and took him in to DS bedroom and finally he shut up... OH was up at 4.15am, I'd only just got back into bed...

Florabean ~ You're not alone on the 2oz limit when expressing... LOL but I can get 2oz every time I use it, so if I need a bottle I use it after CC has had a feed and eventually I get a full bottle for when I need it. I also use the breast shields when feeding her, waste not want not... "Every little helps!"

Anyway, hope you're all well... Catch you all later, have a great day!

I'm so upset girls. Hubby wants me try to arrange to return to work at my old workplace.....the ones who bullied me and made my life miserable. There is no way that they will give me flexible options as when I did this before it's was one of the reasons that it all kicked off. I really don't want to go back but part of me is saying what if I can't find work freelance or get another job. I will also need a reference from them, but I don't know if they'll give it, or indeed how to find this out.

Arghhhhhh.... I'm not even going back til my SMP runs out, which is May, and I really didn't want to start to think about it yet. It all hung over me like a cloud during my preganancy and now, exactly 3 months from Earl's birth, I'm sat here crying about work again  I seriously don't know what to do. Hubby just wants to cover our backs but also piss them off as I think they thought they'd got rid of me. I really don't feel strong enough for this....I want a fresh start!

Aimee - Massive hugs from me and James. I can't believe hes even making you think about it :( I'm not surprised you are upset. I know you need to cover your back but there are other ways of doing that. Saying that I am having to go back to work in Oxford til I can find another job. Its going to be a complete nightmare cos it will take me 2 hours to drive there, do a 13 hour shift, and then another 2 hours to drive home. But its only temporary so thats what is getting me through.

Oh gosh Aimee that sucks! I really wouldn't want to go back there either, they didn't support you then. It's bad enough going back to somewhere you actually like to work! I really hope you can find something, is there no temp job you could try and do until you find a suitable job replacement? Like a gap job? Sorry not sure on HR rule regarding references. I really do hope you find something else :hugs:

Chloe was all smiles this morning, she even smiled at the nurse again. She cried both times she had a jab though. I gave her a cuddle and she had some remaining feed and then we came home, she is just having a nice long nap and chomping on her dummy.

Got a financial advisor coming around later to set up her Child Trust Fund today :D

I watched Panorama last night about child nutrition, I take what that programme says lightly but it was interesting as they were interviewing Annabel Karrmel about her toddler ready meals as they have a lot of sugar in and quite a lot of salt too. Something that she doesn't recommend in her books. I wouldn't want to buy toddler ready meals anyway but you would think they would be healthier.

:hugs: for all xx

Thanks girls - I've calmed down a bit now....done a bit of housework while Earl takes a nap (the little star has so far had both his naps in his travel cot without any help from me....I miss him! :dohh: lol). Hubby called me back and apologised because he realised afterwards what he'd said. He'd not actually meant that I would actually have to go back....it was just a go through the motions/safety net type of thing, so I'm happier now. Chances are we wont be in this part of the world come May anyway so here's hoping I don't actually get a choice in the matter but to find something else. As you know I have my heart set on freelancing and I'm not even going to think about it for another 4 weeks (have told hubby that too! lol). It just came as a bit of a shock to hear him say 'maybe you should go back', especially when he hates them more than I do. Having said that, we're going to visit the Museum in a few weeks time - just as a visitor to see the volunteers that I used to look after. They're a lovely bunch of retired chaps and they all had bets on what I was going to have and they still don't know the result 'cos my boss wont have told them (he didn't get on with anyone! lol)

Anyhoo's

Kte- I saw an advert for that programme but I was cooking tea at the time so missed it. I had thought about watching it on the iPlayer on my Wii later (yet to test it lol) as it did look interesting. I saw the bit whith Annabelle Karmel on the breakfast news and she looked very uncomfortable....I don't know whether that was your impression?

LK - Goodness, I really hope you find a replacement job soon as that will likely kill you! Please be careful on those long journeys. :hugs:

Just a quickie - as Earl is 3 months today I've been taking some pictures and I took one that I thought would illustrate nicely the size of this child!! It's attached underneath but as most of us have a Bumbo there's a reference point lol. I've got a lot of housework to do today as I wont get another chance this week. Hubby is off Thursday and we're off shopping for his Birthday pressie. I've got him a couple of DVD's to open but his main pressie is going to be running shoes as, as he has quit smoking, he wants to get healthier. Hope he doesn't expect me to join him.....I don't do running!! lol

Thanks again girls...I just had a bit of a flip out. Still, it's over now and I'm not going to think about work of any description til 1 month today lol.

Oh and we've decided to partially go onto cloth nappies and Earl keeps leaking at night even in Pampers + nappies. I've got a couple of Mothercare vouchers from Christmas so we're off to go and get some at the beginning of feb, at the same time as getting him a new car seat and a 'Summer Super Seat'. Expensive Wee Man!!:growlmad: lol

Have a good afternoon ladies. Love and hugs to you all from both of us! :hugs:

Darn, I forgot to wish Earl (and you) a happy 3 months! Please excuse my brain! He is so adorable, beautiful eyes :)

Its a good watch if you get chance to see it, like I say, some of it makes sense and some of it is journalism /media at its best. I used to want to be a journalist until I studied it and it just winds me up lol Anyway, mini rant over. Yes she certainly looked uncomfortable, I get the impression that she developed this food with a team of people but is obviously the one getting the wrap for it all. The way they edited, it its all very negative for her.

Aimee-Lou ~ Sorry to hear OH suggestion, glad he's apologised. I maybe over stepping the mark, I don't been too; sorry. As you know I use the reuseable nappies (cloth ones) I couldn't get on with the Mothercare ones, they wick and leak something terrible, and that was when CC was tiny. Not used them since... As she's growing rapidly we've been and looked into the next size up for her and have found that as tommie tippee cotton bottoms ar no longer being made (they are what we've been using up until now..) We had to go away and research some more, as we get on and like the cotton bottoms, the most reasonably priced ones similar (very similar) to what we've been using are Bambino Mio... (Cheapest place to buy the set are from Asda direct £40 even from Bambino Mio £54) Hopefully, I've not offended; but if you look on the Bambino Mio website, they can tell what insentive programmes are run in your area; ours is £30 back on £80 spent... Right lecture over, hope you find a job you'll enjoy by May...

Right best let the dog out, I'm gonna have a walk to the breast feeding group this afternoon... Have fun girls...

Just spent a tenner on different weaning books... Even found one for DS... LOL the wonders of play.com....

Ohh I'm so excited....must rein myself in....ok so I applied for a job on Sunday as a Community Children's nurse working with technology dependant kids.....and I got an email just now asking me to go for an interview!! Its only 20 minutes away from here and I totally wasn't expecting even to get an interview cos I felt for sure I wouldn't have enough experience. It would be bloody brilliant if I got the job. The interview is the day before my birthday so should know by my birthday whether I got it or not. 13 days and counting til interview woohoo.

Aimee - I'm glad you got it sorted out. Wow Earl is so big next to James. He's such a little squirt lol. Will try and post a pic of him in his bumbo later.

Thanks everyone

eswift - thank you for the info. As it is I'm a total novice so all information gratefully received  We were actually thinking of going with just plain old fashioned terries as we're not going to be going out in them lol. I was considering getting a couple of the mothercare smart nappies to try out or to use if we go away anywhere but I am researching at the moment and if they didn't work on CC then I'm not sure they'll be great for Earl. Thanks for the info on the incentive schemes as well....every little helps after all.

LK - Good luck with the job. It sounds fab :flower:

Aimee, we've been using Bambino Mio and Tots Bots since Monty was about five days old. He still wears a disposable at night, but we use Nature Baby Care (or some name like that - they sell them in Waitrose), which are biodegradable. Anyway, I'd say Tots Bots are great. They fit on like a disposable so they're soooo easy. We have some cotton ones and some bamboo ones. Bamboo are more absorbent but they take longer to dry and can't be tumbled. Bambino Mio were OK when Monty was little but I don't like them so much now. All our cloth nappies were second hand. eBay is great for them. They are not cheap to begin with, but when you figure you can use them for a second baby and then also sell them when you're finished with them, you are saving literally hundreds of pounds. If you want more info, PM me and I'll be happy to chat nappies, sad woman that I am these days LOL xx

Thanks Colsy - How do you find those Nature Babycare nappies? We tried some when Earl was smaller and they chafed something rotten. They also leaked badly - this child has a weird shaped bottom lol

I think that I'll do some reading and get a couple of the trial ones of the best ones. Terries seem to be the most obvious choice but I can imagine the All in Ones will come in handy. Quite excited about that shopping trip lol

Quite happy with the Nature Babycare. I think we're on size 3 and they seem fine. He wears one for the whole night, from 7pm until about 8am sometimes. If he wakes for a feed in the night, we change him then. They don't chafe and usually they are pretty leak-tight on our boy. That's one less thing to worry about then LOL!

So far in ckloth nappies ive tried little lambs (love these but bulky, the bamboo are great over night) tot bots like the lls but I dont think they are as nice, i've got some itti bitti d'lish which are just my faves as they are slim but super dry. Not tried is flips yet.

Aimee- Happy 3 months Earl! What a gorgeous pic of him in the Bumbo :) I agree with Maffie- bamboo is so absorbant, it's fantastic for overnight. I already replied to your thread in the natural parenting section but we are able to get 12 hrs out of our bamboo diapers without any leaks when Emma has a good, long sleep. I love cloth diapers but it becomes addictive since there are so many brands to try and cute prints to buy.

LK- good luck with the job interview!

Chaos- cute pics of Autumn! That's funny that your cat is snuggly with her now- our cat just started being interested in Emma too. I think it's so cute since the cat is like our first child :)

Emma and I survived another yoga class together but god I'm gonna be sore tomorrow! The classes are an hour long and Emma started to get restless about halfway through so the instructor took her from me so that I could still get a good workout and Emma could be amused by someone new- sadly, I didn't have an excuse to stop when it got harder, lol :) Oh well, I suppose the joke was on the instructor since she had to demo the poses with my heavy weight baby, lol :) We finally bought a highchair today too. Splashed out on a more expensive one that has a better seatpad- I wanted one that I could wipe down easily and the cheaper ones had fabric pads that would need to go in the washer after each meal (I'm assuming she's gonna be a messy child, especially with BLW). I sat her in it after assembling it and she had a giggle fit so I guess that's a good sign that she likes it :) I think that's the last of the big baby gear purchases for a while now- I hope so anyway! A couple of the kids clothing stores had sales on too so I bought Emma a couple pairs of baby yoga pants- so cute!

Anyhoo, hope everyone has a good night! Time for some before-dinner-Emma snuggles... :)

Evening girls!

Well I got the spring cleaning bug today, and the DH came home to the house all moved around haha. I have to move things around in the house every couple of months because I get bored with how it looks.

I also made some bread in my new bread maker today! I found it at Goodwill (2nd hand shop) for $5.99. that's about 3 quid!! They are 70 bucks in the shops. I LOVE great finds :)

My friend has a lil 3 week old girl that I mentioned yesterday with the sore bottom. Well it turns out she might have a knot at the bottom of her tummy where it joins to the gut, preventing food going thru and making her projectile vomit. She's eating 4 oz every 2 hours, WAY too much for a 3 week old. The DR said, it's because she always feels hungry because the food isnt getting to her gut. She has a GI tract thing tomorrow to see if it is indeed that. If it is, she'll need surgery to fix it :( I really hope it isn't this problem and is something a lot more simple to fix.

LK ~ That made me laugh about James sloshing because Autumns belly does the same haha.
That's horrible about your work :( More so when you're mentally prepared for another month off. :hugs:
Congratulations on the interview!!!

Eswift ~ Hope you're feeling better :hugs:

Flora ~ Glad the sling is working out for you and Harry.

Nij ~ Ick, working nights blows.

Aimee ~ Autumn is the same with sliming everything. Her favourite thing to do is when I'm blowing raspberry's on her neck, is to slime my cheek!
Sorry your DH upset you. Men are dumb like that sometimes ;) They lack brain to mouth filters ;) Glad you sorted it out with him. :hugs:

Maffie ~ Hope Noah gets better soon.

Kte ~ Aww poor Chloe! Autumn was the same, she cried for a all of 20 seconds. She has her next set on the 2nd. Ack :(

Ok time for me to go to bed before I turn in to a pumpkin! (Most of you will be getting up in a couple hours lol)

Have a great day :)
