Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Morning All...

I've just changed the channel we had our monitor set on, as last night we had soldiers talking all night, so far we've had taxi's and now squadies... OH was not best pleased, he had to be up at 3am. But didn't want to disturb CC by changing it... Guess he's gonna be like the living dead this evening...

Today we're off to the eye specialist, I finally get my contact lenses; not bad it's only taken a year to get to this point... LOL quite excited, as hopefully I'll be able to read/see better... Mum & Dad are taking me... A family outing to the hospital, what fun!

CC is a lot more aware and is even starting to play, caught her yesterday on my phone playing on her floor mat. OH was so chuffed when I showed him... We've finished her room, DS loves it; keeps sneaking in there sitting in the rocking chair. He says it so relaxing... Aww Bless him... (We're starting his room now. Hopefully, we'll be able to make it relaxing for him too...)

Aimee-Lou ~ We've got terry nappies to use with CC too... As of yet we've only used them a couple of times; but only cause I got so many of the cotton bottoms... (They were cheap on ebay...) I agree though sometimes they seem quite expensive to start with but after you've used them for a couple of weeks they're already saving you money...

Morning ladies. Well we have now managed a week of sleeping through the night! And yesterday he learned 3 new things....first he learned that he can smack the crap out of the toys on his play arch with his hands and feet....then he learned that if he grabs the bar he can shake it and make all the toys move at once.....then a few hours later he learned that if he shakes said bar too hard the whole thing falls over lol. Luckily its all soft and fell onto the sofa so he wasn't hurt, more surprised lol. Then I was making dinner in the kitchen while he was playing on his mat...he started whinging so I went in to see what was the matter and he had wriggled himself off the mat and was laying by the side of it! Kte - you will know thats no mean feat with that mat!

LK - That's one clever little boy you have there! lol I keep watching Earl for signs that he has 'discovered' his hands but I get frustrated for him as he gets so close then gives up lol. I'm hoping that he will start to actually reach out for things soon - he seems more set on learning to sit up first! I know I'll be looking back wishing he couldn't soon enough....but I can't wait lol. Need to stop putting pressure on him really....don't want to be a pushy mum! lol

Aimee - I am convinced its the steroids they gave me when I was pregnant lol. He is sooo strong. He can pull himself up to sitting but can't sit on his own lol he topples over. He can turn himself in a complete circle if he is led on the floor. And if he could figure out how to get his arm out of the way he would be rolling over (found out after splitting with OH that when he 'rolled over' a few weeks ago it was actually with help from OH grrrrr!). Had steroid injections at 31 weeks and I'm sure thats why lol.

LK ~ he must have been wiggling around like mad! Chloe gets stuck when i move her about on it!

Aimee ~ Chloe is the same as Earl, she gets all frustrated, she looks at thing but the hitting or grabbing hasn't clicked yet. She tries to sit up, its funny watching her as she usually moved her head and her tummy kind of moves too. If I hold her hands she can pull herself up pretty much. The other day I did and and she kept her legs straight and stood up, I told her to calm down, master the sitting up first!

eswift - I think it's Mothercare rather than the nappies themselves tbh but the only way I can really afford to get them is using the vouchers we have and they are for Mothercare. I am just so much of a stickler for getting everything for good value prices, that I may just hold off a couple of weeks until my hands aren't as tied. One of the girls from the Natural parenting thread has given me a discount code for babipur and they do a starter kit of 12 prefolds and 3 wraps for £45 (not including discount) which sounds like a really good deal to me. What do you think?

LK - It wouldn't surprise me if the steroids were responsible in some way. It seems to have helped so.....Yay!!

I take it all back about Earl though - today he has grabbed his pooh bear out of my hand, if I put toys on his chest he will grab the toy with both hands and shove as much of it as he can into his mouth (I tested this on a number of objects and they all worked) and when I put him into bed he made a grab for my hand as if to say 'Don't go Mummy'. Made me go all squiffy lol  I'm such a proud Mummy right now. I've also had to tie some knots into a muslin for him to take to bed to cuddle...I don't trust Pooh Bear at the moment as he's made of thick material (teddy bear type) so I'd rather have something more breathable.

Right - I'd best get on. Hubby's day off tomorrow :happydance: and we're off birthday shopping (hence why we're skint) and I have to get his valentines stuff too lol. I don't think I can top last year's presents for either as last year we conceived Earl on his birthday  and found out that I was pregnant on v-day  - I think a card will have to do this year lol.

Meatballs with tagliatelle and garlic bread for tea - I'm looking forward to giving Earl that one in a couple of months time lol...could be messy lol.

Oh and I weighed Earl this morning (o the fishing scales) and it came out at 17lb 9oz.....I think it's a bit out so I've been saying 17lb, which in itself is massive lol. He was 16lb9oz at 12 weeks so if it's right he's put on a lb this week! I think he's in a mini-spurt at the moment as he keeps waking up early for his breakfast - 5.30 this morning! I'm knackered! lol

Hope we're all ok luvs!! :hugs:

He he that's funny....Earl doesn't pull himself up so much as lean and fall lol. He also has a habit of trying to roll over/sit up dependent of where he is, and shoves his chest out or to the side, flings his head back and waves his arms in front of him (looks like a b***h-fight! lol). He has also twisted himself around in the bath and dunked himself under a number of times - silly boy lol.

LK- that's interesting about the steroids, because I had them too and Emma's been able to hold her head up from birth too (I think I remember you saying before that James was able to from birth also) and she's got freakishly strong legs too (she's trying to skip the crawling stage and go straight to walking I think, lol). I didn't think that the steroids had that effect but it's interesting that both babies are pretty strong :)

Morning Ladies...

Aimee-Lou ~ The prefolds are the one I've been using; I realise that money is tight but I can't stress how hopeless the mothercare smart nappies were... You can get trial packs of different nappies, most seem to be about the £12 - 15 mark... I did goggle some of the brands and had a read of a few reviews; maybe worth you doing the same... (I did buy some fleece material to make some reusable liners... They're so soft, and wash really well...) No one can tell you how much or what to spend, it's your choice at the end of the day... The set for £45 seems a reasonable buy tho...

LK ~ Nice to hear how well James is doing... CC managed to roll herself a couple of weeks back, think it was more fluke than good management...

Right best go I hear a baby shouting.... Hopefully, I catch you later...

Harry can stand really well; he has really strong legs, but literally no upper body strength at all, lol. He has really weedy girl arms!!! He keeps lifting his head & shoving it forwards as if he's making an attempt to sit up & if I hold out my fingers, he grabs on and will kinda pull himself to sitting.
At the moment, he's obsessed with blowing rasberries, creating the oh-so-sexy spit bubble beard & he can hike his legs over to the side & turn onto his side, but his arm & shoulder gets in the way from rolling over completely & then he panics. He still hates tummy time, but he';s getting there. Everytime I pout him on his front, he's okay for about 3-5mins, then face plants into the rug & squirms, pushing his toes into the floor & tries to push himself forwards caterpillar style & gets seriously frustrated before screaming his little lungs out.
he will hold things if you put them on his chest & li8kes to rub different materials between his fingers & shove everything in his mouth, but rarely grabs out for things on his own.

15lbs, 14oz. That's my boy!

And what a difference a day makes - we've had such a lovely day, and I can only cross my fingers that things stay like this for a while, as it's just sooooo much more fun when Monty is in the mood he's been in today. Next time he has a bad patch, I am going to remember today and remember that actually most of the time things are MUCH easier than sometimes I remember. I am sure I'm not alone in struggling through the bad days and finding it hard to think about the good things - it can often be human nature to focus on the negative and forget all about the lovely positive stuff.

Anyway, my new resolution from today is to remember what so many people say all the time on BnB: It won't last forever, and things are constantly changing with a baby.

And one more thing I shall remember, which I believe is something Aimee-Lou said a while back after she'd had a bad patch: ENJOY it :)

That's me for the day. Off for gnocci with butternut squash, chard and feta  xx

Well we have a complete pig today. Drained 6oz bottles all day and drained a 7oz bottle before bed. Better start making 7oz bottles for the daytime and 8oz bottles for bedtime me thinks!

Colsy - Glad Monty has had a better day today.

Evening all, just thought I'd pop by  lol

Had a day out with my Mum for the day which was nice. Chloe has actually managed to go to sleep early so I am off to bed, got my 1 day of work tomorrow so early start for me anywhoo.

Chloe is very clingy to me at the moment, I so much as pass her to someone or leave the room and its tears, and boy can they get hysterical. I just worry she will be very upset tomorrow when I have to take her to the childminders, will be clock watching I have to pick her up after as Nij is sorting the house ready for weekend family invasion. I know its just a phase being clingy but its nice to know that she has identified me as 'Mum'.

Well, its going to be short and sweet, mad rush for uniform, I have 20 mins and I WILL be in bed!

Night all x

I made the switch yesterday to 7oz bottles and now Earl has decided to drop to 3 hourly feeds (well since yesterday anyway lol). Still wont take 8oz at bedtime though so we're sticking with 7' for the mo as he gets a dreamfeed at 11pm anyway. So instead of 7x6oz we're now 6x7oz - strange child lol

Earl has had a good day - we went into town shopping for his Daddy's birthday, then when we got home we went for a walk. Earl was VERY awake and didn't want to go to sleep :dohh: but we were out by 7.30 so that's good. We also have a very large white tooth bud on our lower gum....poor little thing was in agony earlier

Colsy - I'm glad that Monty had a good day. Definitely try to enjoy the time. Even if you're just making the most of the cuddles, at least you enjoying it might make you relax, which can only be a good thing. :hugs:

Colsy- glad to hear you had a good day- they definitely make it all worthwhile :)

kte- Emma was super clingy at the start of the month too and wouldn't even hang with daddy. She's a bit better now, thankfully- it's nice to be loved and needed but a break is always nice too :) I hope things go well for her at the childminders tomorrow.

Aimee- hope Earl's gums are feeling better!

I had a nice quiet afternoon- DH took Emma out for the afternoon so that I could enjoy some alone time. I got some emails done but not much else- relaxing but didn't really help with my "to do" list :) I've attached a pic of Emma in her new highchair. We haven't started weaning Emma, but she now likes to sit in her highchair with a spoon and cup to play with- I guess she wants to be like the adults :)

Hope everyone has a good night :hugs:

Aww Emma looks so damn cute in there! Love love love that high chair! Don't think James would appreciate being put in it though hehe.

Good morning ladies,

Kte - I hope work is ok today and that Chloe is ok at the childminders. :flower:

Well what a night? Lol - Earl was still having teething trouble last night. he woke up at 10am SCREAMING the house down so we had to bring him into our bed for half an hour while the calpol kicked in. I gave him his bottle at 10.30 as the cries had gone from pain to hunger lol, then he passed out and we were all tucked up in bed by 11. 6am comes around and bink....he's awake and so is the rest of the village! lol He's sat in his chair at the moment trying to figure out what his thumbs do....I think we're discovering our hands one finger at a time lol.

I cant figure out why his waking up time has moved. He seems to wake up 530-600 now rather than 630-700 like he used to. It's fine, I can cope, honest! lol  I think he might be getting hungry as he will always take at least 6oz first thing which is good, but that extra hour was a luxury lol. Still, it does mean that at this time in a morning we're both up and dressed and fed lol. Ready to start the day. I may try moving his bedtime back a little as hubby thinks that maybe 7pm is too early at the moment. So the mission tonight is to get him to 6.30 for bath time rather than 6.15, and we'll take it from there. What time does everyone else get LO to bed?

Anyhoo's I've got loads to do today as I got my sewing machine out last night and I want to get it all set up and have a play today...problem is that I have to clear enough space in the dining room lol. At the moment it's a tip! lol

Righty-ho ladies. Have a lovely day :hugs:

Morning Ladies...

I'm still so very tired... Yawn... CC is still waking up 3/4 times a night... I feel so run down at the moment, just glad I'm not back at work, I'd be hopeless... Both OH & I are hopefully gonna try for a lie-in on Sunday (even if CC has to come for cuddles...)

CC is trying to sit with us at tea time now, really am gonna have to invest in a highchair soon. I'm struggling to eat with CC sat on my knee... Chasing the sweetcorn around my plate with the fork is loosing the fun appeal (although the dog is tidying up quickly after me)... She seems to think that when anyone is eating sat at the dinner table, she should be sat there too, no longer happy to be left in her swing...

Kte ~ I hear on the crying front, I leave the room CC cries; smiles when I come back in and cries again when I leave... She's just gonna have to get use to it and learn to comfort herself... Housework doesn't do itself, she's not hungry or in need of changing... They grow out of it aventually... Bolby's (sp?) attachment & detatchment theory springs to mind...

I got my contact lenses from the hospital the other day, boy do they make my eyes dry... Gotta get the big bottle of cleaners etc, gonna see if there are some drops to rehydrate my eyes... Plus gotta now go for an eye test to get new glasses... hmm guess I was rather nieve thinking the lenses were gonna save us some money... OH says it's a case of needs must...

Colsy ~ How right you are on the remembering the good days... I learnt something last night when trying to get CC settled; I had to make the room darker before she'd even attempt to close her eyes... Guess I've been doing that without thinking about it LOL (Normally after a bath I take her straight into her room, dress her and settle her with only her night light on...) Once we'd darkened the room she was asleep within 10 mins!

Have a great day all... Catch you later xxxx
