Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

Just a quick Q from me while OH makes our tea (arrabiata pasta with onion rolls as I have to take it easy on the garlic bread while BF). Anyway, just wondering about teething. It seems from my research that teething goes on until about age 3 years (and then there's another lot at 8 years and then it's good old wisdoms). So does this mean that once baby starts teething, he shows signs of teething for almost 3 years? This seems a bit rough to me: I mean surely every Bumpkin from now until age 3 years won't be shoving their hands in their mouth and dribbling for England and being in pain? Thanks for any insights you can give me. Doctor thinks Monty might be teething, which is causing his drop in intake of milk, but is it really true that babies eat less when teething? He has actually reduced his feeds by about half, which is a big issue for a baby who usually guzzles his milk!

I know that 'teething' takes up to 3 years to get all their teeth through, but this comes in fits and starts. The amount of pain is relative to how the tteth come through and when, but there is a big push in the first year then it sort of phases in and out. I remember my wisdoms coming through (during my final exams at uni....excellent! :dohh:) and there would be weeks go bay with no pains, then they would shift and I would be in agony for a couple of days. Plenty of 'profen and bonjela and I was fine, but it's only the odd day or three every couple of months. I should assume that teething in infants is a pretty similar deal.....I agree though, it's rough. Earl can't latch onto his bottles as his gums hurt when he sucks, so I have to put a dose of gel on before he eats (I know this can cause problems but it's either that or he doesn't eat!) I hope that he doesn't share my teething issues but he has had my growing pains since early on so I feel wuite bad for him.

Woo hoo after a horrendous week teething last week its finally through :) Sam had his third lot of injections today, was such a good boy and only cried for about 30 seconds bless him.

LK Huge Congrats on the job!!! i bet your sooooooooo Made up xxxxxxxx

Colsy ~ Chloe cuts down on her eating when her teething pain is at its worst but picks up again, she still sucks her hands and drools like a maniac but eats a bit better other times, I do the same as Aimee if she is hungry and struggles, rub a bit of bonjela on her gums and once that has kicked in and she has calmed down offer her her bottle again.

Sam ~ Hope George is feeling okay after his jabs, is that it until 12 months now?

Well I am off to bed but had to type this as it made me chukkle, when i put Chloe in her moses basket at bed time or after a night time feed she has a bit of a wiggle, she only settles down after a nice fart! Guaranteed, every night, it makes me smile!

Night all x

Good evening!

Hope everyone had a good weekend :) We had a quiet weekend- lots of naps, watching dvds and an outing to a juice bar. Emma seems to have somehow managed to avoid catching my flu (it's been 4 days since I got sick so hopefully we're past the point of having to worry). Today we went to the bank but I didn't get everything done that I had planned- the woman was pretty useless. Hard to have confidence in someone who tells you that you have more investment knowledge than she does- I wanted to bolt out of there but she'd already started messing about on the computer :( The bank is in the mall, so after I took Emma to the baby room there for the first time. It's the most awesome baby change room I've ever been to- change stations with sinks, cubicles with comfy glider rocking chairs, bottle warmers and subdue lighting and spa music playing- so relaxing in there, I didn't want leave, lol! Anyway, Emma's newest thing is that she doesn't like sitting anymore- she wants to stand. She's launched herself from our laps a few times now when we've been sitting on the floor with her and nearly face planted on the floor- she needs to work on balance a bit. My mum is convinced she's going to skip crawling and go straight to walking like I did.

LK- congrats on the job offer- that's great news!!! Hope you have an awesome birthday tomorrow and that your family spoil you :)

Chaos- good job on the sewing projects, crafty lady! :) Yay for Autumn rolling over on the floor!

Aimee- congrats to your hubby on his uni acceptance! Looking forward to seeing pics of Earl's dungarees when they are finished.

Kte- cute pic of Chloe the cat :) Yeah, it's funny how they have special smiles for daddy- Darrin has discovered that if he whistles, Emma smiles, so if she looks at all grumpy, he'll whistle a couple notes and she'll perk right up (he finds the strangest ways to make her smile- must be another daddy thing!)

jo- Glad to hear Sam's tooth finally cut! Here's hoping Emma gets her's soon too- she trying to shove both hands in her mouth as I type this.

Colsy- hope Monty's gums aren't too bad- poor little guy :hugs: They just get over colic and then teething hits :dohh: I can't say that Emma's feeding has been affected yet but maybe as the tooth gets closer to the surface she'll have problems too

Hope mums and babies have a good night :hugs:

Morning all, well Noah is going for his first lot of jabs this morning. They are somewhat delayed with him being ill and then moving house. Went and found out about some groups yesterday so off to a post natal group on thursday.

Noah is eating his fist all the time but he seems to of gone the other way and comfort feeds, yesterday morning he upped to hourly feeds but he has done 2 nights sleeping through now :happydance: Im hoping it doesnt affect my milk supply but im pumping before I go to bed so im hoping to start building up a bit of milk for him. Trying to decide whether to freeze it in full feeds ie 4-5 oz or to split into smaller amounts

Just posted this in baby club : https://www.babyandbump.com/baby-club/272599-have-mobile-child.html#post4365890

Thanks Kaites - :flower:

Just a quickie again as Earl is keeping me on my toes today - the thread above is all about it lol.

I've also got a whole shed load of washing and ironing that needs doing. I love that hubby gets these long weekends but the house is so messy at the end of them as he wont let me do any housework when he's off as it makes him feel guilty lol. On the plus side, Earl's clothes are all washed and dried and the living room is now accessible again!

I'm so excited though.....I'm so proud of hubby and now that he has one definite response he's changed his attitude completely and is now on cloud 9! since he put his application in he's been a bit down becuase the news has been full of negative stories about shortages of places and funding. But, he's definitely going now! :happydance: Just got to get me sorted, and somewhere for us to live now :dohh: Gah it'll be fine!

Best be off.....beepers going off everywhere to remind me to do stuff nad a bored child on his playmat lol....is it lunch time yet? lol :coffee:

Morning all,

Just took Chloe to baby clinic this morning to get weighed, she is now 15lbs 3 oz and still nicely on the 91st curve :D I was told there is a dentist coming down to talk to the postnatal group tomorrow so I will be off to that at 2pm.

Chloe is dozing on the couch, she is just looking at me, she has been asleep and still looks tired but is just staring at me, her little eyes rolling now and again.

Aimee ~ Congrats to your OH, hope he gets good reply from all the Uni's, was Norwich his first choice?

Kaites ~ Wow look at Emma, she does look like she wants to skip a few processes and get straight to it.

We seem to have some very clever Bumpkins!

An old wives tale perhaps, but I didn't crawl either. I was told by someone (might have been my mum) that just walking and not crawling is a sign of dyslexia (which I have) - anyone know if this is true?

Kte- cute pic of Chloe the cat :) Yeah, it's funny how they have special smiles for daddy- Darrin has discovered that if he whistles, Emma smiles, so if she looks at all grumpy, he'll whistle a couple notes and she'll perk right up (he finds the strangest ways to make her smile- must be another daddy thing!)

I would try whistling to Chloe, but my attempt at whistling is horrible lol.

Mornin girls!

Well last night was Autumns first night in her own room, in that big cot. She did fabulous, I about had a breakdown tho haha. Didn't go to bed till gone 3am because of checking her!

I've also popped my wrist out. Blah. If it aint one thing, it's another. I've always had problems with my shoulders popping out since I was a kid, but its like since I've been pregnant, my shoulder, elbows and wrists have become really really week and the slightest things pops the tendons out the grooves. I mean .. lifting a box of nappys for God sake?! I have no earthly idea how I did my wrist, I just stretched yesterday and felt it pop and now I can't use my left hand. Bleh!!

Jo ~ How's Sam doing today?

Kaites ~ What a great picture of Emma standing. Autumn likes to stand but supported. Are you concerned about bow legs with her standing so early? (I know everyone always goes on about that, dunno if it's true or not)

Maffie ~ Hows Noah doing. Autumn always sleeps for a day after her jabs.

Aimee ~ Yay for Earl!!! Autumn rolled over on the floor for the first time yesterday too! Of course once she did it, she tried it on everything, so no more leaving her on the sofa!!

Kte ~ Great weight for Chloe! Just a few oz ahead of mah lil budda belly baby. How long is she? (Autumn was 25 1/4 on the 1st)

Hi girls

Bumpkins Meet - last call!

Just wondering if anyone is still interested in coming to Meadowhall on either Sunday the 28th Feb OR Sunday 14th March? Please let us know if you want to come

Nij - I've never heard of that before re: dyslexia. I crawled and so did Hubby. My SIL however didn't and skipped straight to walking and she doesn't have dyslexia but did struggle at school. I'm not sure though.

Daddies do have a special way of making babies laugh. Earl loves being lifted up above his daddy's head and swung all over.....LK you're right he is a nutter! lol......and he also loves playing 'rocket-ships' where he goes right up over hubby's head and upside down. Hubby also blows really hard on Earl's face and he goes nuts! :haha: Strange child! lol

Got to go out and get some bits in a while when hubby gets home (should be any minute) and I've successfully managed to get Earl to nap in his cot! First time in ages as he was really clingy over the weekend with his teeth! so chuffed! :happydance:

Re walking/crawling. One of my Mum friends holds a degree in baby development and runs a baby gym. She said its much more likely for girls to walk and skip crawling vs boys as a girls mind works in a lot more logical way to solve problems. She didn't mention anything about Dyslexia.

Mornin girls!

Jo ~ How's Sam doing today?

Sams good thanks, think the worst bit is over for his tooth now its broke through. He's been eating well today too, had porridge and 8oz milk for breakfast then for lunch had 10oz bottle AND baby rice mixed with a C&G apple and pear fruit pot. He doesnt like these runny desserts from jars so if i use them he has to have it mixed with baby rice.

Sam has been trying to roll over too, if he can just figure out how to get over his arm he'll be there.

Question for those who use bumbos - does your LO like sitting in them? Ive been trying to put sam in his since beginning december but he just doesnt like it, ive managed to get him to sit still long enough for 1 pic and thats it. He loves his bouncy chair and walker but has almost outgrown his chair.

Afternoon Ladies...

Well after doing my taxi service for SIL & MIL, I took CC to weights and measures... She's 15 weeks, 13lb 11oz, and 61 cm long... My little babe is chunky, but all smiles...

I tried to book a dr's appointment today, I woke up after a relatively good night; CC only woke once... I was absolutely shattered and groggy, thought I'd go see about getting the iron tablets; next appointment I can book is a week on Thursday! Gonna try again tomorrow...

Anyway CC's doing a pitiful moan as nobody's paying me any attention... LOL best go turn that frown around...

Hope you're all well... (oh, she enjoyed carrot and swede...)

Noah had a little sleep but he's feeding lots and a bit grizzly :(

Doctor said we were natural breastfeeders when she saw us feed after the jabs :happydance:

My mum is doing my head in asking when im going to give Noah 'proper' food aaarrrrrrggggg.

Aww, just tell her that WHO guidelines are to wait until 6 months if possible. But also accept that our mums' generation were advised to wean us at 3 months, so to them it's a loooong time to wait until 6 months. Just goes to show how advice changes over the decades. Be interesting to see what our little Bumpkins are advised to do once they start having babies in 30 years' time. (Gosh, that sounds weird, thinking of our babies having their own babies!)

Forgot to say that's great :) Do you feed wherever and whenever you happen to be? I do, but some of my friends with babies the same age think it's great but don't have the confidence to do it. It's odd, because some of the people I know are really full of confidence in other areas of their life and yet they're too shy to BF in public. Me ... well I admit to flobbing 'em out wherever I am if required. I'd rather have a couple of odd looks for a couple of minutes instead of loads of evil stares from people having to listen to a screaming hungry baby. I have fed in Waitrose every time I've been since having Monty. Pubs are another good bet (I should add that I mean pubs where we're having lunch rather than pubs where we're getting bladdered until midnight - not for me any more LOL). The worst one was Morrison's supermarket coffee shop, which has the most crap table/chair arrangements. They're all joined together like in some fast-food joint, so trying to squeeze me and a BF baby between seat and table was a nightmare. I ended up feeding standing up, Monty hanging off boob and me walking around. Don't picture it, please!

 colsy i'll avoid feeding in Morrisons!!!! I try to feed anywhere if its really busy Noah gets nosey so makes feeding harder, but if I know im going somewhere I might struggle to feed I take a bttle of EBM with me. My mum was told to wean at 4 months, I might offer things to try textures and things but not wanting to properly start weaning until 6 months.

The only reason we decided to start feeding sam is cos he was taking 50+ oz milk in a day aswell as sleeping 10 hours through the night - it was like i was constantly giving him a bottle and i just couldnt do anything during the day, as he is on comfort milk there is no hungry baby formula for that so i started on baby rice. He still has 4-5 8oz bottles through the day on top of his food too. He's currently growing on the 91st percentile :)

If things were different i wouldnt have given into pressure from family, i would've waited till sam was ready.
