Bumpkins & Babies Chat Thread

colsy its only been the last 2 weeks sam has got really interested in his toys, he has started grabbing them in the last week. he doesnt really like playing on his mat and he's never stayed on his tummy he just screamed the house down every time i tried. he gets bored very easily - i went to see a psychic the other day who told me my boy was a bruiser and that he needs mental stimulation all the time, she couldnt be more right!!

sam likes to start yelling at me when im in the middle of washing up lol i just call to him from the kitchen, usually saying hang on sammy i'll be 2 minutes (like he understands what 2 minutes is lol) and make noises to him till im done, id never get it finished otherwise.
if we're eating he's usually in his bouncy chair and unless he's proper screaming i leave him there till ive finished.

Gosh, that makes me feel better. I've often wondered whether it was a truly dreadful thing to carry on with a job even though Monty was crying. At least I'm not the only one to do this! I use the 2 minutes quote as well LOL. Tummy time is becoming more acceptable to Monty now. I wouldn't exactly say he LIKES it, but let's say he doesn't hate it any more. You see, we have progress!

i cant remember anyone telling me about tummy time when i had chloe (almost 10 years ago) i was only 20 and really didnt have a clue, so she never really went on her tummy till she could do it herself, she crawled for a tiny while then walked at 9.5 months so it never did her any harm.

as long as they cant hurt themselves they're quite ok to be left to cry/whinge for a few minutes, sometimes you cant just drop what your doing immediately.

Colsy - Earl will occupy himself, much like the manner you described, but as soon as that activity is no longer entertaining I am summoned lol. I tend to put him into a situation where he can see me then put music on or sing if I really must do something important, like eat lol.

I can normally leave him to his own devices for about 10 minutes before tedium sets in. if the entertainment is particularly good, like his lightbox for example, he will go 15-20, but that's rare.

Having said that I've started to keep him either next to me on on my lap when there's food on the go. He gets so ecxited so I use it as a form of play lol.

I also will leave him if it's just a whinge, but if it's a cry he will be answered.

Jo ~ I generally give her the rusk as a gloop with boiled water, same with the porridge and a baby yoghurt; (I have used rusk as a biscuit for her to chew on with her little teeth, her gums are so white with the teeth hiding so close.) The veg and things I'm giving CC are made from veg that has been steamed and blended down; they're frozen and are taken out when we need them... I picked up some fantastic portion trays from boots that just put in the freezer... Sometimes she spits it back out LOL but when I put another spoonful in she eat the lot... Keep trying...

I have been and brought a couple of jars of baby food (I'm not a big fan, but sometimes needs must LOL) and think at times it's worth letting them try the easy option as sometimes time is in short measure... I use to make food for DS in bulk and freeze it ready for use, certainly made life easy back then...

My sister was shell shocked today; she asked me if I try all of CC's food. Well a pop the spoon on my bottom lip to make sure it's not too hot, so I do end up with a taste. I don't mind what I've made, it taste no different... But the jars are bloody awful! Rusks are rusks... LOL

I didn't find a high chair! OH is gonna take me to the market on Sunday, plus I'm watching a couple on ebay... I've come to the conclusion that as OH's wages aren't gonna be right until the end of the month, if we at least get a 2nd hand one at a price we can afford; we won't go far wrong. My part time wages is running the house and buying the shopping so we've not got much left for anything really... Plus we've not done too bad with the other stuff we've managed to get 2nd hand...

Colsy ~ Big Hugs Love! I hope you're not feeling too zombie-fied... I really feel for you... Sleep deprivation knackers you well and truely... Make all your prospectives wrong... Hope you get some quality sleep or at least a nap later...

I just freeze my baby food in ice cube trays, then pop the frozen blocks in a freezer bag. She has 2 cubes per meal at the moment (just moved up from 1)

the pots i have hold two meals worth so i fill them up, keep one in fridge then freeze the rest and defrost the morning i need new food. i seen a recipie in my annabel karmel book for chicken with sweet potato and apple, anyone know if its ok to try chicken yet??

we buy the odd jar for when ive been slacking and not made more food when the frozen has run out, they taste absolutely awful!! sam doesnt really like them either, he likes his food to have texture and hates anything thats really smooth.

i think his tooth is getting ready to play up, he has one bright red cheek and he's slobbering more than my boxer dog does when food is around!

anyone whos read my thread about chloe and school, well the head had a word with this girl, i dont think anything has happened since. ive told chloe im going to try and move her schools and explained why. she's happy with that :) i sent the forms off yesterday with my 2 preferences so fingers crossed we'll get the first choice :)

Hey, here's a really good site about making your own foods, what they can and can't have.

https://wholesomebabyfood.com/stage1_homemade_baby_food_recipes.htm

I think meat is a "2nd food" and should hold off until they can sit with out support. 1st foods are certain fruits and veg (have to watch what fruits because of allergies .. example, strawberries) Stage 1 generally lasts to 6 - 8 months.

I'm asking how long the other bumpkins are content to play on a playmat for without adult intervention.

Once she's had her breakfast, she'll either go in her jumparoo, or on her play mat. I generally have breakfast, check the web .. she's quite happy in either for normally a good couple hours. Then she gets grizzly, goes down for a nap about 930am.

I alternate things so she don't get bored with the same thing. One morning it will be the jumparoo, another, the walker, playmat, swing. I'll swap toys around. Now she can roll around, she's enjoying the floor a lot more, but also loves to stand and act like a crack head in her jumparoo.

We generally go out mid morning or so, come back and she'll have a 2 hour nap about 3 and then go back on the play matt or jumparoo for a couple hours, entertaining her self.

One more question: when you're doing something like drying your hair or eating lunch - so something that you can't hold baby while doing but you can still make eye contact and talk to baby - do you stop doing it as soon as baby demands your attention? Or do you let baby cry until you've finished the activity but at the same time you talk to baby to let him know he's safe and that you won't be very long?

I let her cry. She's started crying to get me to go over and then when I walk over she laughs at me. When I get ready in the morning I lay her on our bed with one of those dangly toys over her. She can see me at all times, and if she gets grizzley, she just has to wait.

Same with eating food. Normally there's nothing wrong with her other than she wants the attention. Mama has to eat and shower too!!

Same with going to bed. She went in her own room the other night. Normally shes out like a light, but it took her a couple hours to settle that night. I entertained the crying for 2 hours, but after she started again, I decided to let her cry for 5 mins and if she was still doing it, I'd go up. She was asleep in 3 haha.

Evening all, Noah varies on entertaining himself sometimes 5 minutes to several hours. If he can see me he's much more content.

Kte i sent you a friend request on facebook :)

Feel rubbish, and Noah is having a crying day so im joining in.

A COUPLE OF HOURS?!!! You have an amazing girl there, Chaos. You obviously got her well trained from an early age. Well done you:happydance: Me, well I think I have made life harder by always going to Monty the minute he calls. It also doesn't help from that point of view that me and my OH are often both at home even during the day, so generally Monty doesn't have to wait for anything. I have a feeling that now we've turned The Nap Corner, it's now time to work on turning the I Want It Now Corner LOL

Haha I think it's more luck. She has her Dads temperament. She's on her playmat at the moment having a full on conversation with the giraffe (inbetween the 'poo grunts' ) She sounds like an old man when she poos haha.

Evening ladies,

Hope we're all ok. Maffie - I hope you're feeling better, and the same to Noah. :flower:

Well we've had a generally lovely day all being considered. Earl has been a treasure. Woke up in a good flow, ate a full bottle at 6.30 (always a good sign if he eats well first thing) and has been pretty much great all day. He has had his normal naps including a big long one from 2.30-4 which is excellent for him  He has found everything amusing today which in turn has meant that I've been in hysterics most of it....the dog shaking, me eating toast, me eating beans, me ironing, in his door bouncer (which I'm re-naming 'the door spinner' instead lol) - everything. That boy has developed one heck of a sense of humour!

I've decided to re-claim my yummy-ness. I was not a great one for looking great anyway (I hate the inconvenience of make-up and hair styles lol) but I'm sick of still wearing my maternity clothes as nothing else fits, and my hair permanently looking like I've been electrocuted, so I've cleared out the wardrobe of all my maternity gear, sorted it all out, chucked a load of stuff out, and tried on all my old stuff to see how much weight I have to lose. I have a few bits that fit that should tide me over. I've had a long bath, devised an exercise regimen and done my first set and decided that I'll do the 'special K' thing for a week to kick start everything (done this before and while it didn't work over 2 weeks, the first week I did lose weight). I'm just sick of not feeling great because I look awful, so I just look worse lol.

Oh, and I may be applying for a job. I've found a job advertised close to where hubby's uni place has been offered. It's a maternity cover position (so 12 months max) and is pretty much brilliant! If I were to get it we would move immediately and Earl would be looked after by hubby as my wages would be more than Hubby's wage and my maternity pay combined!!! I'm in two minds as I really hate the thought of leaving Earl but there's no denying that that would be just the perfick way for things to turn out! We could re-assess in September once I'm settled into the role and hubby is into Uni - there is a nursery on campus at the Uni too so fingers crossed we could get Earl into there at that point at 11 months old. What do you think girls....should I go for it?

Anyhoo's - I'm supposed to be getting dinner sorted so best be off. Have a nice evening. :hugs:

Colsy ~ My little madam sleeps very little during the day, LOL we're lucky if she has an hour... Most of the time she falls asleep, then WHAM she's wide awake! LOL last time she was asleep, as soon as her eyes shut I nipped to the loo; to come back down to her talking away chewing on her fingers! So much for doing the housework... LOL Don't worry about leaving LO to cry a while, they need to learn sometimes they have to wait...

Maffie ~ Hope you feel better soon, Big Hugs...

Jo ~ Have you registered with HIPP ORGANIC? They sent me a freebie chart and some vouchers, a spoon and some other bits and pieces. (2nd lot they've sent me) oh cow and gate do the same too... I was reading in one book not to start on meats until LO's are nearly 6 months; listening to HV on tuesday saying that by the time LO are 9 months old they should be pretty much able to eat what we eat...

Chaos ~ Sounds like you've got it all sussed... I'm so envious... LOL I was saying to my Mum today, I found things easier with DS; but he slept more, guess I had it easier 1st time around... LOL just seem to go from being tired to absolutely buggered... LOL The tubs I got from boots work on the same idea as the ice cubes... If I was to use ice cube trays DS would be having carrot chunks floating in his cola! His face would be a picture... LOL

Thanks for the link chaos, will steer clear of the chicken for now :) We have a cereal with strawberries in and Sam always seems to have a sore tummy after it, whether or not its just coincedence i dont know but i chucked it anyway just incase.

Well James didn't want to go to bed tonight. Think he's having another reflux attack cos as soon as I led him flat he screamed out in pain. Finally managed to get him to sleep after about half an hour. We are off to see my nan tomorrow who hasn't seen James since he was 3 weeks old so that should be nice.

hi girls long time no speak...i talk on the septembryos a lot but i should really pop in here n talk seen as i am actually officially a bumpkin lol...how are you all and all the little ones doin? x

Hi ladies!
Hope everyone's doing well today :) We went to my parents for brunch today- always nice to eat a meal I don't have to prepare :) My parents had found my old wooden baby snow sleigh for Emma (my mum is a pack rat)- too bad we haven't had anymore snow since December and a lot of it has melted (weird winter going on here). She had fun sitting in it in the middle of the livingroom though :) Tomorrow Emma has her doc appt and is getting her second set of jabs- hopefully it goes as smoothly as the first set.

Aimee- that position sounds great  good luck!

Maffie- Noah is gorgeous :) Hope you are both feeling better! :hugs:

Colsy- Emma doesn't last too long on her own either. The longest she's ever done is 45 min lying on the mat in front of me at yoga but really I'm lucky if I get 10 min of her playing alone. I think she's just a social baby (maybe that's just a nice way of saying high needs who always wants to be held, lol) since she is amused for long stretches of the same activity if someone is doing the activity with her. As for the crying, if she's crying, I do tend to her straight away (she gets the 2 minute line from me too if she's just fussing).

LK- hope James is feeling better soon too :hugs:

lhamil- :hi:

Hope everyone has a good night!
