Cake Making & Baking Group

Mine is roughly the same as above! I dont add sultanas though, and use a cream cheese style frosting and use chopped walnuts to decorate :)
Oh and instead of butter I use ground nut oil

Havent made it for years so I am hoping it is still as good!

wow ladies, so so talented!! i've finally caught up with you all  i made a cake last weekend, was pretty pleased, and i'm going to attempt one of maddi's birthday cakes! ekkk!!
i also have a few requests from people, which is always pleasing for a hobby :D

kitten - i would always use multiple tins rather than slicing the cake! knowing me i'd either wreck it or slice my hand :dohh:

having a big baking weekend this weekend! easter cakes and lots of cupcakes :yipee: i try to either limit how much i bake or get the cakes out of the house super fast, due to dieting! though, i've been on the diet since xmas and lost nearly two stone so i think i deserve a treat

oh and here's my last week's attempt for though's not on fb! decorating was never my strong point  if only i didn't enjoy doing it! i did made do with the fondant colours i had in the cupboard for lots of practise!

THank you for the recipes girls, I would leave the sultanas out too, bleargh can't stand the little wrinkly things
TJG is the cream cheese frosing similar to what I already do?
I think you also said about making ikkle carrots for them, how do you go about that?

yep just the same cheese frosting you ahve been using for cupcakes :)

I will just cut carrot shapes out of fondant then add some green leaves on top :)

You can buy them readymade from cake shops though :)

I saw an amazing cake online n when i zoomed in i could see what she'd done, printed off the label and then gone over it with white and coloured writing it did look like it'd all been done by hand! really gave it that proffesional look. Think i need to get myself on ebay you get loads of funky stuff on there!! xxx

I seen a wedding cake on ebay, the woman had cut bits of white rice paper and attatched them to a 3 tier cake........ I'll see if I can find a pic!

That looks amazing and would be quite straight forward to do! I've been looking at cakes this morning and i found one that was a 3 tier with plain spots on it... £390?! It was just plain white with coloured spots and all 3 were sponge xx

was it Maisie Fantasie that made it?

I am planning on doing one of hers, with organic/free range etc just to add up how much the actual cost will be.
I know you are paying for her name but her prices are still crazy!

https://www.designer-cakes.co.uk/page3.htm its the spotty one here, sorry its £320. Good on her if she gets the business, some of her cakes though id say she seriously under prices! xx

It's better than I expected as it called for large, not medium eggs, and said to use an electric beater until "pale & fluffy" yet I hand whisked until "paleR and frothy". Oh and I took the advise and split it between three tins instead of cutting but I had to keep checking on them cos they cooked quicker. And the recipe said to line the tins with greaseproof paper which made the funny crinkly shapes.

Oh well!

Right Ladies i have been experimenting....let me know what you think.
