How do you all get fushia coloured sugarpaste?! I have tried and tried and the pink food colouring I have just ends up looking crap!
All the pre coloured stuff is all pale pinks and the sugarflair colours dont have a bright pink :hissy:!

:D

I love you, I really do!! :D

Does anyone know if you can freeze sugar paste flowers? I'm making them using 50% flower paste and 50% sugar paste.

Sorry, can't help answer anyone else's questions as this is all too new for me!!!!

Why would you do that? Just let them dry out and put them in tupperware. They last ages!

Yep was going to say the same thing!

I'm making for a wedding September 5th, do they last that long?

lyndsey...youve taken on a wedding cake???? wow!!!
it took me about 7 years to take a wedding cake on!!

i have a wedding cake to make for the 4th September....and i havnt given birth yet..so bubs will only be like 2 weeks old n ill be in the kitchen baking!!

You are brave Lynsey!

I have just been informed that I am making a 3 tier wedding cake but it isnt til 2011! So plenty time to practise that one!

She wants a fruit layer, a carrot cake layer and a cheesecake layer!

hi girls,
been reading through this thread and when i've got some pennies spare am going to start trying to decorate cakes. i can already make them fairly well...so i'm told.
Anyway, me and oh are getting married next september and a close friend of the family was doing our cake. but now she's pulled out and we don't know why. :(
We were wondering if anyone on here was in the yorkshire area and would be into doing our wedding cake or if anyone could reccomend any good wedding cake makers in yorkshire/york area. thanks.
xoxo

A cheesecake wedding cake, now that is my kind of wedding cake!

Nuttymummy you went quiet today I was secretly doing a cartwheel thinking that this was your day.

Sorry nemo I am no good to you what so ever. Even if I was local I wouldn't be!! Hope you find someone soon

But obviously not as many tiers!!

The last one would be quite simple I think.. as soon as you start carving cake i think it gets quite difficult! The princess castle wont be too difficult though, its just swiss rolls and squares :D

i know you can buy a giant cupcake tin. i can't remember where from but it was on this morning a while back, maybe on their site?

wilton do a 3d cupcake tin it's about £35 though!

Hmmm...... about the striped cakes. I tried this afternoon thinking it would be a breeze but had to strip the cake back it was such a disaster!
Black icing is a total nightmare when you are doing it on a pale cake, if you dont get it right 1st time then you are goosed!

I have iced it again and now I am decorating it with sugar roses and leaves, hopefully it will turn out ok!

Was it really? I thought it would be simple too! Got any tips?

plenty of icing sugar, lay the stripes out on the cake first to get the order of them before you glue them on and most importantly... a ruler! If you get the stripes wonky it makes them look really bad and there is no disguising it!

I will try again with my next cake, although I did dive off at the deep end with this one and was adding skinny black stripes along side the coloured ones.

So my advice would be to try and keep it as simple as you can! Good luck!

we made daddy a birthday cake the other day and thought i'd share an image
(struggled with the baking bit as used fairy cake recipe and stuck it in a big tin, so was still soggy after the required baking time, had to triple the cooking time)

Great job charlieann!! I love the strawberry laces for ropes, great touch!

ive done the plaque (first time no idea how long it will take to dry out)
ive covered the board and decorated round the outside
and poured about a litre of brandy in each cake

im doing a practise cake tonight if amelie goes to bed at a reasonable hour! Just gonna make a quite victoria sponge with buttercream and jam and cover with fondant and maybe try and practise the stripes. Wont be using colour as I dont want to have to buy more :dohh:

I've been looking at a cake forum full of professionals and was  to find out that most of them use shop bought cake mixes! I found a doctored mix recipe for a lemon cake that has lemon jello pudding in it so I bought the cake mix (its american) and the jello from ebay and im gonna give it a go for the bottom tier of my mums cake :D

lol no lyndsey im still here...with enormous bump!!

i love how everyone looks at a 'pinkcakebox' cake and says 'it looks fairly simple' ive been making them 7 years...im still no good at them and i learn with EVERY cake i do!!
the best thing u can do - is expect every cake to be REALLY hard, if u think its going to be easy u can easily get dissapointed.....im dissapointed with most of my cakes!!

ooo good luck with the cupcake wedding cake....ive seen lots of those and they are mega cute!! never made one though. the buns wont last very long...but they should be easy to do....they look so cute no matter how they are decorated!!

i hear ya on the balck icing too!! its a NIGHTMARE!!!! they say to try rolling it out on a little cocoa powder instead of icing sugar so its darker n doesnt show as much xxx

This is too true! I read somewhere that someone was going to do a massive 3 tier stacked with tons of detail, and they said "how hard can it be"! :dohh:

It is bloody hard!!!!
