I agree with the Wilton stuff being a bit pants!! LOL some of it is alright but i tend to avoid it!

I hope my wasp made it ok, it had the beginnings of a crack in the black icing :( Oh well!!

Not sure I like the bournville cocoa powder in them though, tastes a bit different to when I make a big cake with it.....might use proper melted choc next time...

This is my cherry, raisin and almond cake...OMG its as FIT as....I think I might eat it all!!

I love how you say that cake is as fit as LOL Love it! :)

Cupcakes look very rich and chocolatey.Scrummy!

tracey that looks gorgeous!! i have a few shaped tins, minnie mouse , 3c train etc but havent got a clue where to start with piping it!

jac that almond cake looks amazing i want some!!!!

them cupcake pods look really good but i dont think i would want 50 but the 15 set is expensive considering the price of the 50 !

Jac loooove your cupcakes hun

Although i cant believe you ruined your cake by putting stinky little raisins in it .. cherry and almond is one of my favourite flavour combos

Might make some cakes today or something, since the weather is so crappy :(

 at stinky little raisins

i like raisins!! LOL

mmmm i LOVE cheerys jac :)

snowball the piping it easy for a tatty teddy...it doesent matter how it looks because its supposed to look 'tatty' if it was done properly u wouldnt get the same effect :)
its pretty easy really, u can get away with anything, coz if u do one wrong u can just scrape it off n do it again...unlike fondant! LOL

im so glad that was my last cake!! i cant tell u how good it it to know u havent got a cake to do for ages! LOL

mm these cakes look sooo delicious! tatty teddy turned out fab btw, you cant tell you had a disaster at all!

LOL i dont generally like raisins, but cherry and almond is my favourite cake flavour combo, you cant mess with perfection

I agree with Blah, when i looked at the teddy i couldnt tell it was wonky!!

Right then thought i would upload a pictures of the first ever cake i have made!

I think next time i will need a little more mixture! I love the cake....taste great!
Icing...well i knew i was going to find it hard as have never done anything like this before. I did put buttercream layer on...probably not enough...but even with the fondant on it was not as smooth as i was hoping...maybe i am being fussy. Also how do you cover a cake without showing the join in the middle?

Right then the cake:

with vanilla and jam filling

Iced:

(See how you can see the bit where the two cakes join???)
Also how do i ice it withough having a crease in the fondant? i used the brushing up technique but still had one crease????

Guess where my bro got a job at?

For the logo i have bought some cutters from tkmaxx that said 'i love you' so i used the 'e' and 'o' and then used the 'u' upside down. I used a straw for the tiny dot!

What you think for first go?
Any advise on my questions?
x

pink girl, u did a fantastic job!!!

it looks soo yummy! looks like uve got the cake making bit off to a t!

try levelling your cakes off (that way they will sit closer together) dont put too much filling in, sometimes when u press on the top it can bulge out the sides....but in this case if u put less in the cakes will sit closer together. when u buttercream the cake make sure its quite a thick consistency, spread it all over the cake and down the sides filling in the cracks....like u would with polycell LOL
roll out your fondant abit thicker and your next cake should be flawless!!! its an AMAZING first attempt though...bet he will love it!!!

Thankyou girls...means a lot.
I am really pleased with it...i really enjoyed making it...i think making a cake and decorating it makes you appreciate more what goes into cake making. Its a very hard and time consuming thing to do.
Thanks for the tips nuttymummy, i might make another next week or the week after and have another go, maybe chocolate cake this time
x

that is a fantastic first attempt!!!!

nuttymummy - do u crumb coat the cake before piping onto it?

Oh that is just fabulous, you can't tell you had a few hiccups with it at all, I love it x

I'm gonna steer clear of wilton cases from now on, I was actually a bit upset as to me it spoiled the overall effect that I was going for :(

Yeah I got the feet from Ebay, they took agaes to come though, so need ordering quite a bit in advance, probably because she makes them to order.
They are quite small once you get them on, you don't realise until you are doing it.

oh they look interesting Jac!! Did you send the ones you made and put plastic cups over? How did they last?

Jo dont worry! You aare still doing the decorating bit which is the hard bit!! LOL! Is this one the gardening one?

Yeah it is the shed/garden one.
Now his Birthday is on Thurs, I haven't done anything yet apart from make flowers and flagstones

When and how would you start it? could I cover the board in green today for example and would it keep withought going funny?
Maybe even stack and carve the cakes?

basically how long would it keep for if I started today? I don't want to cock up then have to start again on Wednesday night or something

How do you girls do your sculpted complicated cakes and Decs?

Pink girl well done! you can always see my bloody middle join too! But i dont always buttercream down the sides as i thought it would be too much whenyour eating it!

Tatty teddy is fab! What disaster? I'd be chuffed with that!

Jac hehe CakeALicious! Love it, i did choccy one the other day too! SO Kev happy now haha! It was pretty nice too!

If it was for Thursday I would make it on Tuesday or Wednesday... just so it lasts as long as possible!!

EEkkk JO! I will be watching your one carefully, a woman has just emailed me asking me to make her Dads 50th cake........ a garden shed!! LOL!!
