Cake Making & Baking Group

Ok so the shed of dread is done, it is the hardest thing I have ever done and am not happy with it :nope:
Compared to the creations on here it looks like Jack did it!!!

I think I am going to stay well away from cakes, I may try again if it just a squre one, but a novelty one, not a cat in hells chance!!!

Jo ! You just got your new mixer so you cant stay away from them, I'm sure its not as bad as you think.

You have all progressed MUCH faster than I did , everytime I make a cake I say I'm not making anymore!

Are you showing us it Jo?

Ok, I did a step by step photo shoot LOL
I really do want your honest opinions though, and maybe tips on how you would have done it.
Is it silly I feel nervous showing you?

Dont be daft! Its not silly! I bet it is a lot better than anything I could have done!! xx

 i just need to tidy the grass up and add some details with a pen then that is it

what you on about?! I think it looks great ! You only started decorating cakes a while ago and that is a fanatstic cake!

What I am going to do on mine though is use the back of a knife to gently make imprints along the shed sides and roof to get a plank effect!
Then I was gonna mix up some brown food colouring and alcohol to paint on so it ad a sort of rusticy look! iykwim?!

and make some tiny daisies to go all over the grass!

I think it looks brill also Jo!!

There is no way I could have done that!! :hugs: xx

wow Jo....that looks brill!

I would try and do a plank effect on the shed too. You need a knob on the door and some hinges....maybe a little window on the side? sorry, im a bugger for little details!

I saw gardening tools somewhere on the net too! Cant remember where though...

Awww thanks girls you are being very kind :)
Jac's I have a pen that I am gonna draw the finer details on later, I thought about a window but my dads shed doesn't have one so am going to leave it.

great cake jo! looks brill!!

it seems u had a lot of coating on it, maybe next time do the buttercream coating a little thinner. and for shapes like this i find cutting rectangle pieces for the sides, front and back is easier, than trying to cover it all the way round. but as a first novelty cake youve done a fabby job! xx

cant remember who asked about the sponge or fruit thing, but i think fruit is easier.....uve got forever and and a day to work on it as fruit cakes can last a year! wheres as sponge needs baking n covering straight away...so if anything went wrong ud have to bake another one in limited time. i like fruit cake but not many people order it!

Jo i cant see the piccy im at work hun, i bet it looks fab though!!

that looks great :) think i may thy some of these recipies later...

i want to make some cuppies today but i need some boxes with inserts for my mum to take em to work...lol the house is well and trully caked out :haha:
im panicking over MIL's cake now...im still not 100% on what te design is looll
BUT
i have found a craft SUPERSTORE 10 minutes from my house, they rent tins and all sorts! Much bigger and better than my cake shop, though i havent investigated the prices yet :D:D
Off there this afternoon :happydance:
