Wow I had loads to catch up on, Jacs the cake looks Fabulous, I hope you have a fab day.
Georgie I haven't bought from there, them cupcakes look fab but look like they could take some work, how about just bright colours and maybe add Sesame street rice toppers to them

mummy_em, i usually crumb coat my cake, then add a thicker layer of buttercream, let it set so its hard, then use a tihnk layer of jam to "stick" my fonandt on

Im still not happy with my butter iced cupcakes..x

Theye fab Georgie, i love the last one hun!!

Crumb coating is just putting a very very thin layer of buttercream over your cake, to basically "catch" all of the crumbs, especially usefull if you are carving your cake into a certain shape, you let that dry in the fridge for a couple of hours, and then you put your main layer of buttercream on.

Some people do it, some dont, i always do :)

this group looks so exciting! can i join in a few weeks as i'll have my own house then and will need a hobby to help pass the final weeks of this pregnancy!! looks so fun!! some fab cakes done by you lot too!! how did you all organise the business side of it too, like selling them? good idea too! i used to bake lots when i was younger, havent had the time in later years with college and stuff but will have lots of time soon!!

I have a cake to make this week for an 80th birthday. The guy is into Astronomy so I am thinking of making a 10 inch square cake with the guys name and age on and also with some stars and planets on wire coming our of the cake?

Do you guys have any better ideas as all the other cakes I see seem to look very child like iykwim xx

Kelly what about a half sphere cake instead of square? sort of half a planet. I think the planets and stars on wires is a fab idea!

Plenty of shimmer and glitter too!

I originally thought about doing a planet cake but thought it looked pretty childish but how the heck do I do half a sphere cake LOL!!

Should I just bake some square cakes and place them on top of each other and carve them? x

You could bake it in a big pyrex style dish like https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?img...ges?q=glass+mixing+bowl&um=1&hl=en&tbs=isch:1this

covered in fondant ( iwould do like a marbly effect) then stars on wires would look ace
