Cake Making & Baking Group

Morning Girls,

Is anybody baking today?

I am still waiting for my whitener to arrive, I wanted to try it out tonight but no sign :growlmad: I am going to make some vanilla cupcakes tonight, I’m stuck with what to put on them though…they are for a friends mum, she’s having a 45th birthday party of Friday that me and OH are going to.

I need you lovely ladies help please, I went to purchase some sugarflair colour paste this morning as recommended by someone on here…I need to make a bright, red, blue, pink and yellow…I didn’t realise there were so many choice of colours…eg. Ruby, Poppy, Christmas red?! Im stuck!

Can someone please advise?

xxxx

hiya! Ive just finshed 2 "last minute" cakes, had 2 days notice to make them!!

im in themiddle of doing the shoe box cake for the adidas trainer!

Georgie, for bright red i use sugarflair christmas red, for bright blue i use squires hydrangea liquid, bright yellow i use squires yellow or sugarflair egg yolk, for making a bright pink i use peony powder!!

It is V.confusing!! im only just getting to grips with all the colours!

nah i buy al over! the squires website seem to stock the most colours, but i buy some from there, some from craft company, some off ebay!

For red and pink i use ruby and for blue i use the baby blue. You can build up the strength or the colour.

I have a few cupcakes to do today for my Mum.

heres my last minute cakes! Nothing too exciting im afraid but all in good training for me, who wants loads of detail on EVERY cake!

well, finished this weeks cakes :happydance: a weeks break and then onto another 4th birthday cake, and then father in laws birthday cake. To think this only started as making the kids birthday cakes, did my husbands cake back in August and then friends and family started putting in orders, and I think i've done about 15 since last October! Never thought I would be able to take it up as a career, I think like most though, I'm my worst critic and never think they look good enough to charge money for!
Nuttymummy, thank you very much for the pic of the ornage and green cake, I now love it! :) I decided to go with the orange base and green accents after seeing that pic, I was alot more confident about it! Hope your Lo's op goes ok today, my dd has to have gromits soon, just waiting for the appointment to come through and I'm dreading it! I've had to tell her it's been cancelled as she was getting hysterical over it, wrong move I know as she still has to go through with it, but think I'll deal with that on the day and make the most of my sleep in the meantime! :(
Can everyone tell me what piping sets/nozzles, etc they use or post a pic of the nozzle? I'm sure I've read a no. 1 star but I can't find any in the cake shops within a 15 mile radius of me!!

So here's a couple of pics;

The orange and green one that I was dreading!

Scooby Doo
(never thought I would have such sleepless nights over a cartoon character, still not 100% happy with it!)

And this is the cake I did for my daughter a couple of months ago, so proud of this cake and it's this one that has just got me a whole heap of orders for childrens birthdays, it will be a take on this for the 4th birthday cake in a couple of weeks, but a much simpler version for what they want to send on a cake, I spent every night for a week doing all the different bits for this one!

Stunning cakes!!
I love the fairy one and that triner is just fanstastic!! xxx

TJG, I can't believe that cake is partially made from rice crispies! What are they mixed with? Are you able to carve it easily, or do you mould it? It looks fab though - too good to eat!!

LOL! Its rice crispie squares, i just bought then ready made but you can make them yourself with rice crsipies and melted marshmallows!

they are super easy to carve into and mould! Very versatile!!

wow all those cakes look very yummy :) Ok so I have done lots of cupcakes before so im not nervous on that part; just wondered if you ladies have tips and you did thankyou.

Also, has anyone used betty crocker chocolate fudge icing in a piping bag?! For the chocolate cupcakes as im doing a mixture and it might save me a bit of time.

glitter your cupcakes are perfect as always!!

Cassy, yeah i use betty crocker for my choccy ones! Just cos it tastes amazing!! LOL!

squish it about in your piping bag for a minute before otherwise it can be quite hard to pipe! :D

thankyou! im so going to do that! pipe with a large star nozzle?! Also has any of you pre made your buttercream and stored it in an air tight container for a day or two?! Im trying to work out how i can save time lol. I dont have a lot of it! I read somewhere you can do this and then take it out of the fridge to soften up (beat it again to speed it up) then pipe.

I suppose you could use betty crocker vanilla buttercream too . hmmmmm i feel guilty for cheating lol.

yeah a large star nozzle...... you could use bettys vanilla too but it would cost you a fortune!! Isnt it like nearly £2 a tub?

i think it would be fine to make it up and store it!
