Cake Making & Baking Group

cool i might have to order some just nipping out in mo to sainsburys to get some cake supplies my poor baking cupboards hasnt been used for a while thinking il make some chocolate fudge cake seeing as got friends coming round for tea today and make some toffee cupcakes but not quite sure yet!x

I have decided what I am going to do for Father’s Day now…better late than never :haha:

A round sponge (I don’t have a square tin ) covered in pale blue icing with a brown ribbon and bow, made to look like a present, with brown and darker blue polka dots – I am only going to do single tier though. Then some vanilla and chocolate cupcakes in blue cases with chocolate and blue butter cream on.

Really excited to do them now!! I also want to do my Step-dad some biscuits, he doesn’t like cake, I have alphabet cutters so was going to do his name ‘D A V E’ but I don’t have any biscuit recipes.

I would also like to do something for OHs dad, maybe just give him 4 of my dad’s cupcakes in a little box!

It's really hard to do manly cupcakes!!

That sounds really good Georgie, ive just typed fathers day cup cakes into google and you get some really good ideas XX

i have just finished making a christening cake, thinking about making some fathers day cupcakes tomorrow x

aww i just made chocolate orange cupcakes they are sooo yummy!!! chocolate spong with chocolate orange buttercream piper on top with little pieces of terrys chocolate orange... slightly sickily but sooo yummy!!x

I'm making those tomorrow for my Dad but i add melted choc orange into the sponge mix :) Yum Yum

oohh yum i just stuck a few drops of flavouring into my sponge but melted choc sounds like such a better idea!! i cant believe how good they taste!!

Hiya!

Wondering if you's could offer some advice for me please.
I wanted to get my mam a lovely birthday cake for her 50th but they are rather expensive!

My question is on average how much would it cost to make a good sized cake, with good decorations etc.. maybe 2 tier?

Thank you!

Well, finally finished my chocolate flavoured, fondant iced Very Hungry Caterpillar cake, couple of tiny details i'm not very happy with, but probably minor enough for no one else to notice unless I pointed them out!
Got father in laws cake to do next week and my work colleagues birthday on Sunday, so just trying to decide what to bake for her!

So here are the pics of the cake;

That cake is brilliant!!
Are you serious there are imperfections? It looks immmaculate to me!
Lovely :D xxx

Can you still see the pics.....I can't!! Will try and fix now!
Right got to make a start on more cake! Do you all use a normal fairy cake tin when you bake your cupcakes or do you use the deeper muffin tins? The last two times I've baked cupcakes, they've separated from the case and look messy and makes it difficult to ice, just wondering if it's because I'm trying to use to small a tray/tin? Any suggestions would be great! I know they're not in the ove too long, I use stork margarine - should I be using softened butter instead? trying to think of reasons why it may be happening??

i use stork and their fine but i do use the deeper muffin tin when i used to use the smaller fairy case one they used to spread out at the top if that makes sense

Do you think I can make buttercream icing with marg instead of butter  Got no butter and skint :( xx

i used to hun makes no difference just put it in the fridge for a little bit after youve made it as it seems to soften when made with marg .. xx

waiting on 3, i saw a cake almost identical on google and wanted to try it! but they went with a different idea instead. its AMAZING i love love love it!!!
