Good luck Helz, I'm sure it will look fab but sorry I have no tips I'm far too scared to attempt anything like that x

WOW, not been in here for a while, it seems to have died down a lot :(

Great cakes ladies! Well done!

Ive got a dinosaur cake to make for the weekend, hoping it turns out OK as this is the second cake this guy has ordered and all being well he wants me to do their wedding cake for next year! Already got a few orders for next year so really looking into starting my own business! I just dunno where to bloody start!!

:flow:

Helz aslong as there both sponge then you dont need dowels for a two tier, unless you want a gap between them, i did a chocolate top tier and a vanilla sponge bottom tier for mylittle girls birthday and they stacked fine was even easy to cover them in fondant :)
xx

Those baby boy cupcakes look brill!

I'm doing my next cake soon..just for my daughters 13th but she wants a hot pink with zebra stripes 2 tier cake!! I've never attempted a 2 tier cake before but Ive done alot of reading about how best to do it..you put dowels (drinking straws cut to same height as the cake) into the bottom cake?? And sit the top tier cake onto a thin cake board just slightly smaller than the size of the cake so you don't see it. Is this right?

Also...just how hard are zebra stripes to make? I've got a feeling I've bitten off more than I can chew here :dohh: xxx

If it were me.. I would cover the cake first (in either the white or pink)
and then roll out black icing and cut random pointed lines/thin triangle shapes. Beauty about zebra stripes are they are abstract so will look good even if you think you have messed it up!

Hey Ladies,

Just thought I'd let you know that Lakeland has a 3 for 2 offer on cake tins! I just bought a 6", 10" and 12". They're good springform tins too, used them before and they bake really well x

I can't see the 10" and 12" cake tins only the 8" and 9" ones? Can someone put a link up please? xx

I've just made 2 Madiera cakes using this method and they have turned out amazingly. No dome and no cracking at all. They're as close to perfect as I think I'm going to get with my oven.

Just read the instructions...Couple of questions:

1. Does the newspaper not burn in the oven?
2. You pour the mixture into the tin but as a 'doughnut' shape so you leave the centre 'open' - do you put it in the oven like this?

Cant wait see your wonkey cake xx

Wow Jo you did well to get the icing that black! Well done!

The newspaper doesn't burn, but then I have an electric oven so I think you'd have to be more careful with a gas one!

You really have to scoop out the middle and scoop the mixture up the sides of the tin so that it looks like a donut. You have to go right down so that you can see the bottom of the tin. Then you put it in the oven like that. It feels weird and looks bizare but it really works. You end up with a nice flat top to the cake rather than a dome x

Wow Jo! What nozzle did you use for that?

Righto ladies, I'm a newbie. I just my first ever cupcakes today using the only nozzle I could find and they're okay but could be a lot lot better.
