 My t-rex is a bit odd looking! Tsia, I did normal buttercream and then put in a drop of water to make it runny and red & orange food colouring (the buttercream was already yellow) and mixed it only a little to keep the colours seperate iykwim...I though there was a bit much but was told to leave it like that! :) And I used crushed up oreo for the mud :)

I enjoyed doing the iphone on the apple! Need to practice my cutting in though, the edges of my cakes are shocking!!

right...I have 24 cupcakes to make for work on Weds night...so I dont have time to order decorations online...ideas please?!!

Do you have a morrisons or Adsa nearby Georgie?
They have loads of different toppings in, sparkles, chocolate stars and curls etc...

I've been reading this thread for ages now wishing I had some non embarrassing cakes to add to it. There are some such gorgeous cakes on it. The 'Me to You' bear near the start of the thread is amazing, so are a lot of the others.

I did two today, a Christmas cake (well, made the cake a while ago, just iced it today) for a charity Christmas cake auction on Tuesday and a chocolate birthday cake for my friend.

I'm only a beginner, but I'm quite pleased with how they have turned out.

(this one not quite dry, hence looking a bit blotchy in places)

Georgie - they look great! Is that buttercream? If so how do you get it SO white, mine is always slightly yellow because of the butter!

Do you know what I find a bit mad about this thread?! Reading the first few pages from when Andrea was about to make her first proper cake and now she's the cake guru :haha: x

Oooo how did you make the white? I like!! xx

Hey guys, just a quick Q... How much do you all charge for your cakes?

I've had to people request cakes from me, 1st one was a 3d fire engine cake (fireman sam) with 12 cupcakes and I said £40 and didn't even get a reply, 2nd one was a giant cupcake cake, with 6 cupcakes and I said £30, and £35 if she wanted 12 cupcakes, but I was told no again...
Am I charging too much? I don't think I am because I've looked online at other prices but I dunno... Are people just unaware at how expensive cake making can be?!

deffo very very unaware of how much it can cost!!! ive had a few people say they want cakes then change their mind and go buy the norm for asda or whatever! even though write down everything that it costs aswell!! and i never put alot ontop of the initial outlay either

Hi girls..
I need some advice, for my OH's birthday (Christmas Eve) I am wanting to make some goodies. I have been making cupcakes lately which are scrummy but I just use cake mix & Betty Crocker icing

However for his birthday I want to make a football pitch my first actual cake ever  square or rectangle cake, just nice plain one and then cover it in green icing, then pipe the pitch markings on with white icing and get some football topers likelittle players goals etc.

How the hell do I begin? Can anybody give me a list of what I need to buy?

I am also going to make cupcakes, so I need something to add to the buttercream (gunna not cheat and make my own) to make it really green. Oh and the best nozzles for if I decide to try the 'grass frosting'.

I doubt anyone will answer my huge request but would be greatful if you would xxx

Dream a dream, those cupcakes are fabulous! They make mine look rather ameteurish! How do you pipe in the shape of roses? Do you start from the middle? I haven't used whitener before, but I think I'll have to get some now.

Candeur, I don't think people realise how much the cakes cost to make either. My sister did a fantastic two tier sponge cake for her friend's daughters birthday as a gift and someone messaged her on Facebook asking how much it'd cost to buy one like that from her. She replied saying £20, which was an absolute bargain and only covered the ingredients really and they replied saying that was too much and they are £10 in supermarketsm but it's not the same thing is it and I find supernarket cakes inedible. The chocolate cake I posted cost about £35-£40 to make, but I don't think people would realise how expensive the ingredients are.

Amy-lea, I'm only a beginner myself, but if you use paste/gel colourings instead of liquid ones, they are much, much better.

Some cupcakes I made yesterday. I really need to practice and improve my piping. They were delicious though!

Cassandra- I use sugarflair's whitener powder. I think it's called superwhite. It's was about £2.50 and to get that white took half the pot :dohh:

Midori- they look yummy, I want one of those black forest ones! To do the roses I just started in the middle and did it really slow!

Candeur- I agree people don't realise how expensive it is. Your prices were bargains, in a shop they'd pay about £4 per cupcake and then £40 odd for the cake I reckon.

Amy-lea- I'm off to look for you now :) Will come back with links in a min :D xx
