If i make some toppers out of coloured fondant for cupcakes is it best to do them night before or on the day just before i ice them?

I am going to a cake decorating course on monday. Its 5 weeks long and free with our local sure start centre. They also have a creche.. Cant wait. My friend is doing it.
I have found my icing much better with my wilton set but it wont hurt to learn different things!

so I've done a few cakes recently...
all sponge with buttercream and jam

two xmas cakes and Jensons birthday cake.

I fell in love with an ITNG birthday cake online so decided to give it a go myself x

I love that Itng cake! Amazing!

What recipe does everyone use for their their vanill cupcakes? I can't seem to find the perfect one.

Also, has anyone tried the chocolate cupcake and buttercream recipe from the primrose bakery book?

Vanilla cupcakes i use 6oz butter and caster sugar and Self Raising flour.3 eggs and a teaspoon and a half of vanilla extract/essence whichever you prefer.

Those cakes looks fabulous!

For any cupcake makers....when making up buttercream for lots of cupcakes. How do you manage to get them all the same shade of colour? Or do you just make up a huge batch?
My mixing bowl isn't very big! xxx

thanks ladies,

heres a pic of what was left of the cupcakes! didnt manage to take one when they were all there, but I made all the haahoo characters and it took ages!

they were demolished shortly after this pic x

Lovely cakes and cuppies ladies!

Candeur I always use the chocolate cuppie recipe from the Primrose Bakery book. I don't use the chocolate buttercream as I don't think anyone can beat Betty Crocker lol. They're lovely and light and fluffy. They also keep really well.

I also use their vanilla recipe too, they seem to turn out really well.

Glitter I tend to make up a huge batch. In fact you've reminded me I need a bigger bowl!

Thought I'd share :cloud9: Chocolate & Vanilla Oreo cupcakes <3

I make a huge batch because Im terrible for getting the colours the same! Lol.. I got a huge mixing bowl in Wilkinsons. Its massive!

Question. If I have buttercream left over can it be refridgerated or will it go funny cos the butter will go hard again?

I make my toppers out of ready rolled fondant the night before.

They went down very well with OH workmates

I might attempt to make a big cake soon.... I can never get the icing to go flat :dohh:

I am starting a cake decorating course on monday with my friend at a sure start centre! Cant wait.

Fantastic cupcakes girls

Toria you are on a slippery slope love sending them to work, I sent some to Ants and they expected them twice a week at least  Cheeky gits, and as he is a site manager the work force gets bigger every few weeks, soon knocked it on the head LOL

I use the primrose bakery book. The vanilla cupcakes are good although they are quite a heavy cake compared to the chocolate cupcakes, they are really soft and moist. I use their buttercream recipes too. Infact everything I make out that book comes out perfect. The carrot cake ones are to die for although they say they make 16 cakes from the recipe but I get 12 good sized ones.

Have a go i'm sure you won't be dissappointed.

Oh no... Last night I decided to clean my oven and when I was doing it I took the glass panel out of my door and I knew I should have left it cos I had a feeling something was gonna happen.. I smashed it..

Its cost me £70 to replace and it will be here by tuesday. I have to do some cupcakes on Wednesday so lets hope so...

What an idiot..

Thanks. I wanna do something like in your avatar. Do you have any tips?

I start my cake decorating course tomorrow so hopefully I can start doing cakes too!

It's just a case of seperating the cake mix, colouring it different colours and layering it in the cases.
